Windows 7 64bit - https / certificate error !!!
burgemaster replied to burgemaster's topic in Windows 7
Thanks for the reply, I have tried on our normal proxy and the students proxy, and my technician opposite me is on the exact same settings. Also nothing is installed yet, not even antivirus! The install is from a M$ DVD http://i46.tinypic.com/13yfaec.jpg -
After running Win 7 32bit fine for a few months, I thought id give Windows 7 64bit a go.... After installing, i reallised that any HTTPs websites that i visit give me a "This CA Root certificate is not trusted because it is not in the Trusted Root Certification Authorities store" http://i46.tinypic.com/k1sw7d.jpg On all other machines, including other Win7 64bit machines, the cert is fine. http://i48.tinypic.com/2ufx2cz.jpg After 2hours searching I decided that it had beaten me, i then formatted with a fresh install. I logged in (still on workgroup) straight after the install finished without installing anything and yet again !!! Certificate errors as before?? Can anyone please shed any light on this one? The clock and date are set down to the second, is Ive tried network updating network card drivers, and then all win 7 updates. but i cant sort this one ! Any help would be appreicated ! Tim

Hi all, Currently our "Password Policy" GP forces a password reset after 90 days. I am looking to increase this for STUDENTS only to maybe 5/6months. As this is a Computer policy, i was wondering if this is possible or anyone has a way around it? Teachers/TAs occasionally use the Students computers etc Ive attempted creating 2 separate GPs and then using GP filtering but no joy. Do some schools not set an expiry for student passwords? Any ideas please?

TERMINAL SERVICES - adding an extra ActiveX
burgemaster replied to burgemaster's topic in Windows Server 2000/2003
Sorted, if anyone else has to do this: 1) “In the connection page of the Terminal Services Web” = “C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\TSWeb\default.htm” 2) "Access the PluginDlls property of the IMsTscAdvancedSettings interface” = This area of the default.htm 'Device redirection options 3) 3) Use the following code: MsRdpClient.AdvancedSettings.PluginDlls = “rohos_obj.dll” = Copy this line to the bottom of the list as below: 'Device redirection options MsRdpClient.AdvancedSettings2.RedirectDrives = FALSE MsRdpClient.AdvancedSettings2.RedirectPrinters = TRUE MsRdpClient.AdvancedSettings2.RedirectPorts = FALSE MsRdpClient.AdvancedSettings2.RedirectSmartCards = FALSE MsRdpClient.AdvancedSettings.PluginDlls = “rohos_obj.dll” -
We are currently trialing a "Dual Auth" application for our staff to login from home to our terminal server, everything is going well and all working if they use: MSTSC But when they login via the webpage, they ActiveX does not get installed. Rohos have given us this documentation but it really does not mean anything to me: Rohos Blog Archive How to use Rohos Logon over a Web based Remote Desktop Has anyone had experience running there own activex on a remote session? Point 2 has been done, but point 1, I really dont understand: 1.In the connection page of the Terminal Services Web application running on your Web server, access the PluginDlls property of the IMsTscAdvancedSettings interface to specify the name of Rohos virtual channel DLL. Use the following code: MsRdpClient.AdvancedSettings.PluginDlls = “rohos_obj.dll” Thanks in advance

We have recently changed print servers, from server 2003 to a server 2008 print server. In our Vista ICT Suite, whenever a student logs in they can see the old printers that no longer exist (the server is also decomissioned) If admin logs in, local has no printers and domain admin has the correct deployed printer. When a staff member logs in they see the old printer "XXXX\Samsung CLP510 - Colour" I have tried the following to get rid of this printer: removed user profiles (also removed SID from profile list in registry) removed all instances of the any printer from the registry under: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Environments\Windows NT x86\Drivers\Version-2\Printer Name HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Printers\Printer Name HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Printers\Connections\server name HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Providers\LanMan Print Services\Servers\server name\Printers\Printer Name Ive deleted all drivers from "C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS\" BUT STILL !! when i log in as teacher/students, i get this really old network printer that no longer exists: "XXXX\Samsung CLP510 - Mono" Anyone please know of a way i can kill it? Cheers Tim

Hi there, Is this fix deployable? or have to be installed on a computer by computer basis? ive been calling forensics each week to be told it will be "next week" or "a couple of days" for nearly 2 months now. Im ready to try anything.. We have also been experiencing internet supply problems, so im not sure 100% sure whether it is our provider or Policy central (or both) Could i please ask (anyone): When Policy central causes its problems, do you get a blank page with the correct title and the hourglass cirle thing spinning? while that internet explorer is still "waiting" can you then open another instance of IE and the internet be fine with the exact same website? i.e google just hanging on the one IE, but then working fine on a newly opened IE ?? is this the Policy central bug ? Many thanks in advance Tim

good stuff. Glad all is ok. Not sure if your bursar`s use FMS, but apparently that software uses NetBios still (but can be configured to us TCP/IP) NEXT onto "Multicast Filtering" !! Do you have this turn off on all your switches? I dont think we have any software that uses this protocol Apparently Ghost and some network Cameras still use multicasting. Would love to hear what other networks have got enabled / disbaled? The less unwanted traffic/protocols travelling around the network surely is a good thing? Or are we making a un-noticable miniscule difference to traffic?
-
How did it go today? We also turned off NetBIOS. Everything seems good. All shares and folders appear to be working. Have you turned off NetBIOS on your servers? DCs ? I now have to go around any machines with Static IPs and turn them it off manually on them. In wireshard there are no longer any floods of NBNS traffic, whether this will help our network speed I can only hope !!!

No changes that we know of. Our reference to HUMPHREY was the old PDC from the old network, we have had a full rebuild since then, but we did reuse some GP`s and Start Menu`s etc. We are considering completely disabling netBIOS. I think it can be done in DCHP with a simple checkbox. Does anyone if the also needs to be a setting changed on the workstations? or does making the change on the DCHP override the workstation settings? OR do all workstations have to also be set to: USE NETBIOS SETTINGS FROM THE DHCP SERVER If i remember you cant change these settings via Group Policy either http://www.petri.co.il/images/w2k_netconfig7.gif

Hi All, We recently had major network slowdowns on our network. While trying to find the cause I started using WireShark to analyse the traffic. I found that our workstations are Querying old servers that in some cases were on the old domain? in wireshark I get repeatadly when a user logs in: SOURCE-IP TRAGET-IP NBNS Name Query NB HUMPHREY<20> HUMPHREY was our old PDC before the network was rebuilt a few years back, and CMIS-NEW was the new facility server that was only names CMIS-NEW for a few days until the old CMIS server was decomissioned? One of our servers also used to be called CMIS-NEW before it was renamed to FACILITY. I am now getting from that server: SOURCE-IP: FACILITY TRAGET-IP NBNS Name Query NB CMIS-NEW<20> Also workstations randomly cause: SOURCE-IP TRAGET-IP NBNS Name Query NB WPAD<00> I original thought it was a script referencing the old servers but I cant find anything anywhere. Nothing in GP also as ive moved it into the Computers OU where no GPs are called. Theres also nothing in DNS Can anyone please shed any light? PS. domain admin does not cause these references.

Windows 2008R2 & Hyper V Problem!
burgemaster replied to madman070578's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
We have a simular setup. A server 2008 (non R2) DC. While I was getting the other R2 hosts ready i installed Hyper-V onto the DC. Everything seems ok with 4 NICs 2 for OS and 2 for VM. The problem that we are having is it is complaining all the time about: Source: NetBT A duplicate name has been detected on the TCP network. The IP address of the machine that sent the message is in the data. Use nbtstat -n in a command window to see which name is in the Conflict state. I found this solution but dont fully understand it! Issue #2 ====== Problem Description ------------------------- Log Name: System Source: NetBT Date: 7/10/2008 4:21:37 PM Event ID: 4319 Task Category: None Level: Error Keywords: Classic User: N/A Computer: Corp.marshallgis.com Description: A duplicate name has been detected on the TCP network. The IP address of the computer that sent the message is in the data. Use nbtstat -n in a command window to see which name is in the Conflict state. Resolutions --------------- If you dedicate one NIC for virtual machine to use, disable all protocols/management apps. on the dedicated NIC and just have virtual enabled on the NIC eliminate the issue. Good luck with your setup -
Sorry to Bump this old topic, but we are also in need of "TRUE plug and play bluetooth devices" After trying many brands, they all seem to require the same (exact) bundled software? Any one please have a working bluetooth adaptor? could you please let me know the model/supplier? Cheers Tim

Local Administrator - Profile doesnt sync back to server?
burgemaster replied to burgemaster's topic in Windows
Thanks for the replies. I should have been more clear we are vanilla network here, the RM Connect (if i have the name correct) is an encrption software that encrypts the exam officers exam data as it gets sent/recieve over the tinterweb. Anyhow, i mamanged to give here permissions over certain reg keys and folders and sort that now.... The head requested he be able to install stuff (skype, codecs, etc) he is pretty IT savey I have done a GP result of both of the two accounts, one that works and one that doesnt, as suspected (as i copied the old to make the new) they are identical. Apart from the fact that the one syncs !! "this could be a policy which may now be completely lost if you've moved it out of the AD Structure " Could you elaborate on this please mate ? Thanks again -
Local Administrator - Profile doesnt sync back to server?
burgemaster replied to burgemaster's topic in Windows
Have you tried another machine? Hi Mate, yeah the same user when logging into any machine does not sync the profile. If i delete users profile in the Staff_Profiles$ folder on the server, when they log in it creates it as normal, but it stays empty when they log off. Well this problem has again raised its ugly head !!!!!! The heads laptop, he was previously a local admin. I have given him a fresh install of Win7 and now on this laptop every other users profiles sync back to the server just fine, apart from his. What I had to do with the exam office is create her a new account in AD and transfer all files and emails over etc (was a pain) So.. im guess this somewhere in AD this is happening. I have created a fresh account for the head, but im pretty sure that he was using SAP which requires local admin. Can anything pls think of anything i can check/compare? ADSIEDIT Maybe? -

Our SLT are completely obvilious to what system we are running and wouldnt care? Can I ask why they are involved? Could your school not have a network manager by any chance??

Vanilla here, with mix 2003/2008 enterprise When i joined the school we had Ranger. It was easy to manage the network through it, but after 6 months i had nearly replaced everything it could do with GP and free softwares (e.g. LanView). It then became restrictive and im glad I removed it.

Another 2 weeks !!! We made the mistake of rolling out IE8, and the problems seem much worse with IE8 over 6/7 Weve been waiting over a month now !! The problem apparently is also Sophos related, I have had this before where 2 companys software conflict. They both throw it back to each other and it never ends. Apparently you can disable all the users in the PCE console, but ive only found a way to do this one by one !!
-
Ive been told its a sophos/pce problem, They said there is a patch in testing. Fingers crossed it will be tested and released soon !!
