With the "Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe for scripting" marked as enabled. Users then got a lovely new homepage telling them their settings were unsafe.. So I added "cloud.bromcom.com" in to the trusted site list. Computer Configuration | Administrative Templates | Windows Components | Internet Explorer | Internet Control Panel | Security Page And then made the ActiveX scripting change in the trusted site settings with GPP. Seems to be all working... Should be good to go for launch Monday! Thanks for the help

Thanks again. one small problem remains, I now need "Initialize and script ActiveX controls not marked as safe for scripting" enabled in the security settings in IE. Will look at sorting this in GPP. Also could I please have the WIX before I deploy blindly to all our computer. (not that I don't trust you completely)

Q.What happens if you log on as a normal member of staff, and them provide admin credentials as required? For us this resulted in the activex control installing and persisting between sessions for that user on that machine If I authenticate for then with admin credentials the print client loads and they can print. If they then try and print again.. it then again asks for authentication. We seem to have it worse than you There must be a solution! Will look next week when we settle. Might try giving permission to a test user to windows\* and work backwards

No good 1) tried installing as admin.. it installs but normal staff still get AUC 2) Tried the MSI - Staff still get UAC 3) tried copying the files (they were already there) and then registering the DLL. The registration was a success, but still need UAC For Monday i will tell them to export the PDF.. will test more when everything settles. Printing is quite a big requirement though

Hi, Our new MIS (Bromcom) has a Print Button.... When staff press print, IE asks to installed the add-on "Microsoft SQL Server" from "Microsoft Corporation" If they click "Allow" in IE 10 it then pops up the UAC window... I have had a good search and found this page that shows how to copy, extract and then register the DLLs.... Reporting Services Client-Side Printing and Silent Deployment of RSClientPrint.cab ActiveX file Ive done this and it doesn't work. It would be amazing if anyone had an MSI for this or even some knowledge on how to resolve it!!! Thanks in advance!

Quick question... We are moving MIS to a cloud system. The current MIS data is stored in an SQL database on site. 1) The database is Microsoft 2) We created the database 3) The data in the database is our student/staff data. 4) The MIS software populated the data... Where do we stand please? Can we at any time view the SQL database to retrieve data? Thanks in advance

IMPERO - Fast User Switching - Not supported?

We possibly have a problem here then! If anyone has previously switched user here, all the teacher sees a black square. Will check again with support. -
IMPERO - Fast User Switching - Not supported?
burgemaster replied to burgemaster's topic in Network and Classroom Management
Thanks Russ. Yes, title maybe a little misleading, i should have added "Not supported in thumbnail view") but when there are multiple sessions it doesnt show ANY of the sessions... it doesnt show anything. A forced log off would be a little dangerous for double lessons with a lunch between. Could I please request that Impero has a tick box to maybe "View latest session thumbnail" instead of just a blank screen when there are multiple sessions. Or possibly if Impero showed any of the sessions so the IT teachers can see that the session is locked. Any other suggestions please? -
IMPERO - Fast User Switching - Not supported?

Hi Ben, Still means we get a call from ICT Rooms.. "XXXX has left themselves logged in, can you unlock them" What is the negativity towards enabling Fast User Switching? Resources? -
IMPERO - Fast User Switching - Not supported?
burgemaster replied to burgemaster's topic in Network and Classroom Management
For this reason? Without fast user switching on XP meant that we are going to get calls all the time "XX has left themselves logging in, can you please log them off" or worse them holding the power button to hard reboot. Students leave themselves logged in all the time. Or am i missing a way for students to log other students off? -
We've found that Impero doesn't appear to support fast user switching? When the IT teachers view machines where a students have switched users it shows a black screen for that thumbnail. Impero gave the option of: 1) Automatically log students off after X amount of time - Very risky... no thanks 2) Limit number of logins to 1 - This was a nightmare year back when we had Ranger. Students leaving classrooms and no remembering where they left themselves logged on. 3) Disable Fast User Switching - This means that we are going to get calls all the time "XX has left themselves logging in" or worse them holding the power button to hard reboot. What does everyone else do please?

Russdev - do most schools buy outright or pay subscription yearly?

Thanks. With support today we found that this only happens when the domain information is filled in in the server. We have left that section empty but I still don't quite trust that our machines will appear for other users. We are the only two this happens for and the only two on win8.1 I will setup and test on a third 8.1 machine Monday. We are also on server 2012.. Thanks again

We are having a really weird problem... Im thinking of moving to a hosted wpad.dat file... With IE10 we use a proxy.pac configuration file "Use automatic configuration script" section. When we set this up in the preferences IE10 section (and made sure it was underlined green) this worked and it applied but more and more we are finding that even though it is ticked and the correct path to the proxy.pac is filled in, it just isn't getting applied. If we untick the box and then tick it again It starts to work.... Ive used a GPO registry method mentioned earlier to set the proxy instead of the pac method as IE falls back on the bottom proxy settings if the top config section isn't applied... very weird

Server Network card - No Ping? All appeared to be fine????????
burgemaster posted a topic in Windows
Last night at around 6.30pm Dell Open Manage informed me that our main NAS server connected to our array had lost contact.. I came in early this morning expecting the worse but found that it was powered on and appeared to be a network problem. When i logged in locally and checked the network card team it showed cable connected and had an IP etc, ipconfig showed all the correct info etc.. but i couldn't ping out.... "General Transmit Failure" I disabled and enabled the card and it was then fine. It has never happen before and ive not seen anything like it before? Has anyone seen this or any idea what may cause this kind of behaviour? Dell 1950 connected to an MD3000 with Server 2008 R2. Event viewer showed nothing but one entry at 18.36 "Sophos Failed to communicate with parent router 10.X0.X.12" which is expected.. Thanks in advance -
We have all our students in 4 Houses and so in 4 different security groups. In Impero when we setup a new house group and then link the AD group to it everything is fine apart from when we go to the log viewer. When In the log viewers it shows all the students in that house but ALSO shows myself and my tech! We are not and have never been in these groups. Impero suggested corrupt AD groups... I went along and manually recreated the house groups and it still happened with the new AD groups. (it also happens with other AD groups so im pretty sure they aren't all corrupt) We are the only 2 that get mixed in these groups and also we are the only ones in the school on windows 8.1 ? We also appear in the logs on Windows 7 machines when they view the logs. Bug?

Thanks. That looks perfect. But it looks like we would need unlimited sensors at price of 13.5k !!! Looking for a freebie if possible

There are lots of mentions of "network monitoring" , but I'm looking also for network "traffic monitoring" showing which switch or even which ports are the busiest or our potential bottleneck. Procurve manager showed this but too expensive. Do any of the above tick my boxes?

I can see the logic. If they were to remove the HDD and mount in another machine it would be encrypted. But if they have the key also would they not be able to decrypt the HDD within another windows install? I doubt the TPM chip can be simply read as the SD card would be.. We went for USB sticks, they can remove them as soon as it starts to boot so not had any damaged as of yet.
