  1. Ours was the same pricing as Ruckus. Maybe our Ruckus pricing was too high!
  2. When I asked the big vendors about Ubiquuti they all claimed their kit wasnt "real" enterprise class hardware? They also said the controllerless solution was far inferior in control and features than Meru/Ruckus/Meraki etc? It did put me off, also no support? Anyone else had experience?
  3. How about the Meru system? Isn't a Single channel network the future with AC and limited available wider radio frequencies / channels? We too have been quoted by both. We had meru in and explain how ruckus are playing down AC due to the above. Has any one else heard anything like this?
  4. With our rebuild we did the following which we found helped us.... 1) We tried to create individual policies for different settings. Only the Student and Staff Default policies have multiple settings .. 2) Label each GP clearly. All computer policies begin with © computer, (U) user or (L) for loopback. Then the general area and then description of the GP, e.g.... "© - SW INSTALL - Install Flash player" If they call a script add (Script) on the end. 3) Not sure if this helps with performance but disable the USER section on all COMPUTER policies and vice versa. Goodluck
  5. Hi mate. Quick thought, on our 2012 Rdp server we used an open source program to create custom tiles. It is just a shortcut that it creates. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1899865 Hope this helps!
  6. One laptop to go!!!! She just won't bring it in....!!!
  7. Is this the whole script mate? expected END here?

  9. Hi, We have just had a couple of network points put in by a different network company. When I went down to patch then in, they said its ok ive put connectors on the end of the cables. You can plug them straight in to the switch. Before I say please come back and put them into the patch panel, does anyone know if this is regulation or best practice etc? I'm not really bothered that they go straight in to the switch as its a bit of a mess, but would like to know before I say something? Thanks in advance
  10. Hi all, Recently we have upgraded a laptop from Windows 8 to 8.1... Since then the IE "built in app" works fine, but the desktop IE reports "Proxy Server not responding" If I turn ON "EPM" the desktop IE works, but then some of the site needed use a plugin that isn't supported by EPM! It works fine on my desktop with EPM off? Has anyone please got any suggestions or seen this before? Thanks in advance
  11. Good shout, but we already have both
  12. We have a 900sec screensaver lock as above. Only science said it interrupted their videos now and again and it isn't applied to PCs used for large presentations etc. but it still stands for the rest of the school. Would it help if maybe there was a solution that didn't kick in the screensaver/lock if something is running in full screen? (not that I have one, sorry)
  13. after the boot images are rebuilt to include the drivers you then need to in WDS remove the "boot.wim" and add it back in.
  14. Thank for this. Screensaver was already disabled but led us to the problem! We had a GP set with loopback enabled to disable the screensaver in the user settings. We were using a local account this time so user settings weren't getting applied! Thanks again
  15. We have finally got round to upgrading our display screens around the school that were left running Windows XP. They simply stay on during the day either running department powerpoints or camera feeds. Since we have updated to windows 7 after x amount of time the screen feed shuts off. They all have a GP setting them the Power settings to NEVER for all of the options. I have checked that these are also getting correctly applied.) BUT!!! they are still shutting off the monitor. Is there something that we are missing here please? Thanks in advance
  16. Thanks James. Well let's see how it goes! I did first make a disto group but the head wanted head@ as his reply email.. Thanks again
  17. Have you seen the edugeek project: Self Service Password Reset Our staff can reset student passwords and students / staff if they wanted could even reset their own.
  18. Just to add.. I would make sure that you remove all references to your school in here/profile/online if you plan to run without protection.. Whether it be your schools students or potential hackers looking for an easy target to exploit etc Also just checked.. Since we cleared the logs (I believe beginning of school year) in our enterprise console we have had 32 infected website's blocked by Sophos. This is going through a county Smoothwall firewall and a 2nd local Smoothwall install.
  19. Can anyone please advise? Exchange 2007, outlook 2013. All staff have firstname.surname as their email address but for the old headteacher we added "Headteacher@" and "head@" in ex. management. We have a temp headteacher who was the dept head. They would like the "Head@" email address to come to them now instead of old headteacher. If I remember correctly, its not as simple as just removing the addresses from the old heads account and adding these email addresses to the new headteachers account. Does outlook cache the email address and when they start to type "hea...." it will auto-fill the rest and this will be cached and this email will send to the old head address? I need to get this right as its the headteacher!! Thanks in advance!
  20. I would say that AV is becoming more of a necessity now than previously. With cyber crime on the up rise etc. The amount of quarantined threats we have even with a secured firewalled network I couldn't ever consider it. If anything was to happen you would be hung high and dry, I don't think you could create a risk assessment that would support it anyhow.? I would be constantly terrified of Cryptolocker or similar Trojans!!!
  21. Do you use it? Yes. Great OS. Really quick and stable. Why? Server manager for our 2012r2 servers, hyper-v and making sure we are used to the latest software that I guess most staff/students will soon be using at home. Will we roll it out school wide? Possibly at some point. Maybe on some staff laptops, test with a couple of eager admin staff.
  22. Thankyou for the reply and also testing! Its a Netgear AP, not a cheap one but unmanaged. I guess it is the Access point then! Thanks for testing this. I will tell them that they must carry on using a cable. they only use it once a week, but I said I would see if I can sort it.
  23. Hi. We have one external laptop that need to have a different Default gateway to all our other machines. We can't manually set the network options as it is used in different schools. We have made a reservation in DHCP and told it to give it the correct default gateway. This works perfectly when the laptop is plugged in with an Ethernet cable. Correct reserved IP and default gateway. But ... ...When it connect via wireless it picks up correct IP settings but NOT the specified default gateway? Has anyone please seen this before?
  24. As said above turn on your scavenging. Trim the times down. You won't see and results straight away. Check the DNS event logs and you will see that scavenging is working and you will see how many are removed. I would start over a fresh on the new server. Remember that dhcp and all static IPs will still point their dns to the old server!
  25. Hi, We have a weird intermittent problem since we have moved to "Windows 7 64bit Ent". On random machines the windows firewall service just appears to stop? By default the firewall is OFF on the domain but it means that we aren't able to PING or VNC to the machines. The only link so far is that it seems to only be happening to the older Dell 740`s.. Has anyone ever seen this please? The service can easily be started again, just cant see why its stopping. Thanks in advance. Event ID: 7024 with error message: "The Windows Firewall service terminated with service-specific error The data is invalid"
