Hi all, Setting up a virtual host for a primary School.. I have the onboard RAID configured in the ROM with RAID1 on two 750gb drives. All is working as expected, but I would like to see the status of the raid health in windows? Ive installed the latest intel driver for the controller: Intel® Desktop/Workstation/Server Express Chipset SATA RAID Controller version 13.2.4.1000 But im not sure what I would install for the gui to get something like this?: After trying different versions and getting nowhere, I thought that as the Matrix Storage utility was replaced with the "Rapid Storage Technology" then this would be for me? https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=22139&lang=eng I dont suppose anyone else has a T5500 with S2012r2 installed ??? The Chipset is the intel 5520 with 2x 6 Core XEONs. Many thanks in advance.

Server Spec Suggestions ... SAN or JBOD
burgemaster replied to burgemaster's topic in Windows Server 2012
Yeah, I want to get it right, but also want to keep costs to a minimum and don't want to waste anyone's time. E.g. specialist putting together a quote/time while I'm knowing I may put together a reconditioned host and source my own hardware! -
Server Spec Suggestions ... SAN or JBOD

Sounds like a plan. Just need around 3-4k now and some spare time and were sorted!! Thanks for the advise. I would really like some confirmation of the spec required of the hosts. I don't want them to be the weak link and waste all this money. Not sure where I can get this information apart from here. Thanks again. -

Server Spec Suggestions ... SAN or JBOD

Thankyou. So if I have a couple of hosts. Wouldn't each host need the performance to host every VM that we Currently have spaced over 4 hosts?? Or do they have half each?? -
Server Spec Suggestions ... SAN or JBOD
burgemaster replied to burgemaster's topic in Windows Server 2012
I did see the supermicro, It was far cheaper for just the chassis than all other I saw, I thought it may be a cheap model, does a JBOD performance very on the quality of product you buy or is a JBOD and JBOD all with the same performance? No access to a cheap SAN hehe, ive never really had to price one up as they have been out of our price range. But yes your right it does seem cheaper!! thankyou Is this shopping list complete? 1x Supermicro 847E26-RJBOD1 XXTB of Hard drives 2x Unknown spec`ed host Servers (Fingers crossed the R610 might be up for the job) 2x SAS controllers for above hosts 1x Dedicated switch (already have) Server 2012 licences (already have) -
Server Spec Suggestions ... SAN or JBOD
burgemaster replied to burgemaster's topic in Windows Server 2012
Hi LocalZuk, thanks for the reply. I looked into storage spaces, but I came to the conclusion that a JBOD would cost a lot more than a SAN? There doesn't seem to be much variety in the market either? -
Server Spec Suggestions ... SAN or JBOD

Thanks for looking at this. Maybe 475ish desktop domain PCs, 40-50 domain laptops, 15-20 non-domain laptops/Pcs, 300+ Student and staff BYOD devices. -
Server Spec Suggestions ... SAN or JBOD

Thanks Scott, will look into this, is this regarding the possibility on negating the need for a SAN? We are running on 8 year old hardware so was hoping for real life hardware spec recommendations. -
Server Spec Suggestions ... SAN or JBOD
burgemaster replied to burgemaster's topic in Windows Server 2012
Sorry can't believe I didn't state that. We're server 2012 with hyper-v. Managed with MSVMM. If there was host failure I was hoping for full Redundancy which I was hoping would be a couple of seconds downtime?? But I am open to suggestions!! -
Hi all, Just forward planning and been looking at a two node failover cluster setup with a SAN. This would be to replace our nd3000 and its Dell 1950 server, three 2950's and an R610. They are currently setup as virtual hosts and the storage all on hosts. I know this is an open ended question... But could anyone please recommend the kind of spec that each server would need to be? We're a secondary school 900 users, 550 devices. Currently have 14 virtual servers spread across the hosts. Was hoping that maybe the R610 could be possibly updated and an additional matching R610 be bought as a refurb. As you guessed we have no money!!! We currently have no SAN, could a JBOD solution mean we may not need to buy a SAN??? Thanks in advance!!!

"That's the Ruckus ZD stage done. Can anyone help me and the OP with putting a certificate into Smoothwall, and getting clients to redirect to the Smoothwall's FQDN instead of the IP addfress, so the address matches the certificate?" I know this is an old thread... But thats exactly where I am now!!!! Did you manage to sort this please?

How do I create a SAN Cert Request for JANET please???
burgemaster replied to burgemaster's topic in Windows
Thanks localzuk, I followed that guide and I ended up with a signed SAN on our CA. I need a request. I probably did it wrong but coLunt see where to export it after or enter the address of the lea.. The cert will be used on both our smoothwall box and our zone director as currently when devices connect they are getting a self signed cert that obviously isn't from a trusted source. -
How do I create a SAN Cert Request for JANET please???
burgemaster replied to burgemaster's topic in Windows
Thanks Dkeen94, But wouldn't the cer have to be imported back in to where it was requested from? or are you saying that they could then export it with the private key or similar? I don't think ours will do this. They gave me the strict instructions on what we need in it and it has to be a .req request. -
Hi All, We get our SSLs from the LEAs who act as a contact point for the school to get ahold of our certs. When we create the request it MUST have their address details in the request or it doesnt get approved when they request it with JANET. All my searching leads me down the wrong path.. All I am after is to create a request with multiple SANs with the LEAs details in it? We have Certsrv setup on our 2012 server. Can anyone please help? Thanks in advance

Im sure we had this error with IE10 and we had to reinstall as we couldnt find a solution. 00:17.472: INFO: Launched package installation: C:\Windows\SysNative\dism.exe /online /add-package /packagepath:C:\Windows\TEMP\IE1AE29.tmp\IE11-neutral.Extracted.cab /quiet /norestart 00:37.487: INFO: Process exit code 0x00000002 (2) [The system cannot find the file specified. ] Ive read through all the usual M$ solutions and tried all that I can find on here, but just wondered if anyone else had a working solution? Can anyone please help me here? We have a trolley of 10 iPads at a primary School we support. They are plugged into a mini mac server and have all been setup with Apple configurator. Today they turned on the mac server and plugged all the iPads in and they all updated to IOS8.1.. A few apps were added through VPP purchase and they then all installed automatically when the iPads were plugged in or refreshed. This is fine as everything is still working just fine, but they have reported that ALL the photos from the iPads have been deleted? The photo roll is empty. Can anyone please explain why the photo have all gone?? Does the iPad backup to itself before it does an IOS update? Does Apple Configurator backup to anywhere before it updates them? Many thanks in advance
