Just incase anyone is thinking of throwing in 12 x old Dell SAS disks in, it may not work. All drives need to be SCSI Persistent Reservation (SCSI-PR) compatible and if they are out of production then Dell wont have updated the firmware for them

Hi, Thanks for the replies. It isn't actually a core switch it's a switch to go in the server rack for management. But saying that, our core switch is the larger 5306XL. It will need replacement soon. It's running a lot of fibre modules so will be a relatively expensive uprade with funding we don't have.

Hi, We are installing a dedicated switch into the server rack. The switch is a used HP 5304XL with the interchangeable modules. It has one module that has 24 Gig ports and 2 x fibre. (https://h10057.www1.hp.com/ecomcat/hpcatalog/specs/provisioner/99/J4821B.htm) My question is... The module with just the 4 gig ports, is that just very old technology as it just has 4 gig ports, or was it purchased/used specifically for some reason instead of a 24 ports module? Is there any benefit from using this one with the 4 ports? or is it just old tech and im reading too much into it or hoping its a better option!! Thanks in advance

The SA120 arrived today. Bit of a let down, it is full of dummy drive trays and doesn't come with any to install! Cant find a part number or anything similar to buy! Will have to call Lenovo

That rings a bell, but I think this is needed only for Terminal services 2012 to stop the new 60sec delay before applying logon scripts??

What have you got setup to restrict them from running BAT files? File screening to stop then copying? Applocker? GP File restrictions? Or banned file type in a normal GP? Have a good play, Can you rename a .txt already in place to .BAT and run it?

A while ago, when looking at staff laptop synchronization I spotted a new feature of 2k8/12 where domain joined laptops could connect their internal school mapped drives (e.g. "N:\\server\staff\username"), automatically when they get home via their internet, this is seamless without any RDP session or authentication. Could someone please jog my memory of what Microsoft called this mechanism? Searching for anything with Network or Mapped drives is swamped with normal drive mapping! Hi all, Have anyone by any chance devised a script or similar that will give some kind of print out with number of print copies sent to a printer? We have PaperCut up at our school, but with such a small school I wonder if anyone has already solved this in a similar situation? Looks like there isn't a release of intels Matrix/Rapid storage management for 2012R2 and probably isnt going to be one as the last release was 8 months ago... So....Does anyone please know if a storage space with a mirrored virtual disk would have the exact same performance as using onboard software RAID ?
