Not strictly true, there are different fundamental categories of beamforming, including chip-based beamforming and antenna-based beamforming (e.g. BeamFlex). Most vendors are limited to offering whatever their chip vendor has included in the Wi-Fi chipset. By contrast, Ruckus can support both methods simultaneously, so there’s no need to worry about choosing one or the other. Hello, i don't know if this will be of use, but thought it was worth contributing. We undertake a vast number of tenders every year, and more often than not we're giving a tender document with a brief, for example the need for site wide coverage, number of users etc. In terms of surveys it is more common for us to be given a particular date/time when we can come onto the site and perform our own active site survey at our own cost, and use this to determine the ap counts etc for our given solution. This is all then submitted to the client at the end where they're able to compare kit lists and surveys across manufacturers and make an informed decision. An experienced wireless supplier/surveyor will be able to tell you on their reports where your potential problem areas will be, and should be able to put forward a solution to counteract these. You could almost use this as a gauge to how good the different suppliers are, based on their ability to spot potential problem areas. Hope this is of some use

Ruckus installs do tend to require less APs when compared to other solutions. If you're unsure on AP numbers you can always ask the company you're working with to do a site survey, companies tend to offer two types of which i went into a bit of detail on this thread: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/wireless-networks/136923-wireless-survey.html In regards to support terms, Ruckus are currently running a promotion whereby you will save some money if you purchase a 3 or 5 year support contract with a particular kit list. Hi, as @TechMonkey mentioned we do have a security division in the company. I don't know a huge amount about their portfolio but in terms of locks, i'm 90% sure they deal with a solution called Aperio by Assa-Abbloy: Aperio which is a wireless lock solution. If this is the sort of solution you were after let me know, and I will ask someone much more knowledgeable than I on the access control side of the business to get in touch.

Hi Mr Bios, we're a Ruckus house, but we carry out a lot of surveys, so thought the below may be of use. We tend to do two different types of wireless surveys, so hopefully these will help you identify the correct one you would need. predictive survey - Cost - Free The client would send us plans of their school, and we would run it through a piece of software called Tamograph. This allows us to predict the number of access points and their location, taking into account your environment, such as age of building, thickness of walls, building materials and density of devices etc and allows us to predict your signal strength, estimated throughput, signal to noise ratio etc. This is purely predictive, but produces good results, especially for smaller sites. Active Survey - Cost varies according to company and the customer sites - average cost from us tends to be £650 per day. This requires a trained wireless engineer to visit the customer site and walk around the site with an access point. Placing it in predicted locations and walking around the surrounding area to collect real-time/real-world data. This allows the engineer to accurately measure your signal strength, round-trip times, throughput rates, etc and put forward ideal location for your access points as well as a very accurate idea of the number you would require. This is ideal for larger sites. We always recommend the surveys to customers, it gives the client confidence in our ability, but it also allows the client to see the anticipated results. Both types of surveys produce written reports and this can also help if they need to present a case to a head teacher or governors etc. Hope this helps, if you have any questions feel free to ask.

As mentioned above the R700 is Ruckus' current wave 1 11AC product. Their 11ac products will work seamlessly (with full functionality) with existing 802.3af PoE switch infrastructures. If your support expires with Ruckus and you leave this for a number of months and then look to renew your contract, then Ruckus will back-charge the support payment to the date of expiry. Ruckus were running a support amnesty allowing all Ruckus customers who had seen their support expire to purchase a new contract without back-charges, this expired on the 31st March. If you were interested in renewing an expired support contract then this would have been a good time to buy and possibly what the email you received was suggesting.

There shouldn't be any reason why you can't upgrade. If you have any 7942 Access points on your network, they wouldn't work with 9.5 because they stopped supporting them after 9.4. If you can send me a PM with your email address I will send you the download link for 9.5, this is usually a service we only offer to customers, but i'm sure we can make an exception for an EduGeeker

hello, the pricing you have been quoted looks about right. Ruckus did change their support packages, although i can't remember when these came into effect. If you visit the Ruckus support page you will be able to download the PDF datasheets for the type of support you're considering purchasing, either Partner or End-User. If you purchase 3 or 5 years support the price will come down a cost per year basis. Hope this is useful

I wanted to pass on some reassurance in terms of firmware availability with the 7372 APs included in the bundles at present. If we look at the older 7363 AP they have been running for at least 5-6 years and shouldn't be going EOL for another year or so at least, with firmware updates still available as far as i'm aware. So based on this I would say the 7372 will be supported for many yeas to come (6-8 approx). So you should be fine buying the bundles
