Hi, I have begged stolen and borrowed to get some cash together to upgrade some bits of our wireless and I think I am going to go for the Ruckus stuff. I have a Meraki unit on trial which is fine but the cloud thing... .ewwwwee. Anyway, what will I miss out if I don't go for a zonedirecotr? (I can't afford one anyway so I will have to do without). I reckon I will get 6 or so AP's so having to configure them individually isn't such a killer but is there something other than that which I will miss out on. Really annoyed I missed out on the offer recently for the controller and 6 units but hey ho.

I got this with a L3 switch last year and I can't see us getting another one for 10GB speeds so I am cashing in. Its unopned and still in its original box which is sealed. Open to offers or swapsies.

It usually works for us when they log on with SSL then open Skype. The only issue we had was with Windows 8 (I have to put an older version on) and non M$ products. I did open up the firewall too with some high end ports, I didn't like it but it did seem to get Skype to be more reliable.

Its a PCI-X16 card but prob only cost a few quid. Might grab myself a copy of Half Life and see how she goes.

I just popped up to the nice people at CCL to buy myself a new desktop for work. The old one was a Core Duo that had seen me well for many a year but it struggled on videos and flash was a bit juddery so I bit the bullet and bought a new MB/CPU and memory. I already had a SSD hard drive and the PSU is quite new. WOW I usually buy cheaper stuff, I usually buy i3 for the classrooms now with 4Gb ram but I decided to stop giving Intel cash and plumpted for the FX-6100 and 8Gb of sexy corsair Ram. Very speedy PC now, you want to see candy cruch fly. Not bad for £200 too. I have no idea why I am sharing this, I just am happy to be flying again after years of plodding. PS The processor is registering 7.3, the memory 7.7on the ratings bit on W7.... Graphics is dragging it down to 4.5

Hi, Does anyone know of an MDM that works on the android platform as good as the IOS? I have looked at Googles own, lightspeed and Meraki and they all look like they do the same things... remote wipe, add a passcode and thats about it... at least the Meraki one allows remote app installs but I can't see where you can restrict the install. I know I am from an M$ background so am a control freak but these may be going to the LSU kids who get distracted easily.

Hi, Our head of IT is leaving in the summer and he designed a Flash based horse race website to log class merits, its quite good but its all done in flash so to update you have to mess around with layers etc... I dont like Flash and would prefer an easier way to log them in a pretty way, does anyone have a fancy way of showing them? Its junior and senior school so needs to be pretty cutsey to replace waht we have. I was going to work out how to read data from a text file into Flash to change the labels etc... but if anything goes wrong I will have to go into Flash and fix it...

I bought this printhead by mistake from Misco, I opened it before I realised its a 5 head printhead and not the 4. Never been in a printer or had ink near it. The box says CN642A and here is a link to the amazon page with the compat printers. Hi Guys, Does anyone here have this CD rom on their system? I was handed a copied CD from one of our teachers to put on the network but there is no licensing info on the CD and she said she was given it by her previous school. Not sure if its something to do with Bitesize but none of the files have any info for me to get clues from. Its a flash based bakery tour all about hygiene and stuff, it looks educationy.

Me and the missus went to see Sean Lock in York last night, pretty funny but we were absolutely shattered as it was birthday treat weekend and I had been out and about all weekend. One of the jokes he uses is how hard his wife finds it to buy him presents and once he took an interest in birds through the window he ended up in a filed with a big leather glove on with massive birds attacking him. Not 6 hours earlier I was stood in a field with a massive glove on with a golden eagle landing on me. he joked he hated it so there was a bit of nervous looks between me and the wife so i had to keep reassuring her I loved it. I would recommend it to anyone who likes the outdoors, I did the full day experience which ended with an eagle landing on the glove... awesome. This place is where I went. The Falconry Centre Sorry for the spoiler to one of Locks jokes but it still makes me smile.

As Windows only school I do need to embrace this stuff, we are muted to get ipads int he summer and maybe some chromebooks. I have google apps setup and linked to the school but haven't used it in anger, I just dont see the point when i have a fully functional office suite already here. As for email, tempted but would more than likely go to office 365 rather than google. Man I sound negative.

As an old man of almost 40 years I am struggling to understand the desire to move to Google apps or office 365. I am sure I am wrong and the $$$ savings can be good but the recovery/backup problem really rules it out for me. Google say Document and file recovery policy If you can't find an item in All items, Trash, or by searching, it may have been permanently removed from Google Drive or deleted by someone else. Anything that has been permanently deleted from Google Drive by the owner, or if the owner's account was deleted, can't be recovered. It’s also not possible to recover anything in Google Drive after a Google Apps domain administrator deletes someone's account. I wouldn't mind integrating it to what we have but chromebooks again seem to provide more issues than solutions. We seem to have a ABM attitude coming through. Can anyone help persuade me, I really don't want to be seen to be old skool.

Be interesting to see the new version when I get upgraded on the 10th. I really don't like sharepoint for a school, i am sure if you throw hours and hours at it then its fine but I haven't the time. If skydrive in office 365 links on a educaiton network I might look into it... allowing students to upload to their skydrive but I can't see it playing nicely with network drives which is google/dropboxes problem. TBH I am not sire anout the cloud full stop.

How are you authenticating with the users through SW? Thats one of the things I am tetchy about, I cannot rely on the staff to note down who was using which laptop if some issue arises. Also which model did you go for? I heard the cheapy one was a little underpowered.
