Morning, We are looking at a refurb of our sixth form centre which will include a budget for ICT equipment. Now its been muted as just buying new PC kit but with the influx of BYOD and other mediums I wondered if anyone has done anything new recently and can offer some idea... or even photos would be good. We have a design company in to do the building by the way. Interested to know about the power situation also with BYOD, expecially getting round the PAT testing for appliances. Do you offer additional clean sockets for them? Anythink useful would be appreciated.

I would post a pic but I just dropped my phone down the toilet, dropped it in the bath last week when i was bathing my daughter too. Handlebars for me this year, it grows quite fact so its rather hefty already.

Thanks for the reply, the voice vlan stuff is disabled but the voicevlan which is greyed out matches my vlan ID so I wonder of there some underlying issue. Won't take me long to change the vlan settings. Bit annoying if it is as I have just bought 3 POE injectors.

FFS, I sorted this out and it worked perfectly. Came in this morning and the stupid thing has stopped workign on the GS724TPS switch. All the others work but for some reason this switch refused to work. Not sure if its cos of the POE or what but I have double triple and quadruple checked the config and its not taking the vlan across.

Hi, I hit a bit of a snag, I decided to VLAN my network and seperate the ipadas and Chromebooks for the M$ stuff. All eventually went well until I realised that we have some ePrinters in school. Now the Chromebooks will work no matter what as it just needs an internet connection but the ipads need to be on the same network to print. So my choice at present it... allow the iPads to print and use the ePrint software for the windows machine or use an app to print from the ipads rather than the direct system. Anyone think of a better way? I did try the ePrint software but it needs to register for every user which is a bit pants.

Hi, I am setting up a very very basic vlanning which doesn't have any inter vlanning going on. Sounds a waste of time I know but the idea is I use the smoothie box to dish out DHCPs on VLAN 100 to netgear wireless access points SIDS I want. Now I have this working lovely on most of the system. It goes through 4 switched and Trunk ports and I have tested it along the way using a WG302 access point . I just change the port the WG302 is plugged into to a Trunk along witht he uplink and it gets an IP from Smoothie perfectly. i have hit several problems. Firstly i can't get it to work on my managed wireless running though a WMS7316 no matter what I try (I have managed to lock myself out of the think now by messing with the vlan setting on the controller). I change the SSID to use vlan 100 but it doesn't work, the client just spins round trying to get a lease. Not sure what I have done wrong here. i am RMAing a POE switch that keeps stopping me having access to its web console so hopefully that will fix it. Anyone got something similar with the managed wireless from Netgear. I have 1 ruckus unit I want to try but I can almost guarantee it will work pefectly.

I think it is, you set a home location for the devices and a range and when it goes outside that range it emails you the details, even down to the address your at (close anyway) When I got into work this morning it pinged me an email telling me it had come back into the fence. Nice.... although one of the ipads has been sat on my desk all weekend and its reporting as being in Kingston Upon Thames int he console... the geofencing didn't ping up for this so I imagine they are seperate.

I will have a look tomorrow, I brought one home to have a play with and the paid apps are showing as being allocated a serial. The Geofencing function works well, sent me an email when I connected at home with my address.

Morning, I really do find the apple management of iPads to be.... can't use any of the words on here... not very good. I have a little mac mini that i use to configure the ipads and put the meraki MDM on. On Monday I was asked to put on all the big stuff on them (iPhoto, iMovie, Garageband) and its taking hours. The annoying thing I reimaged all the units and a few just decide not to want to install the meraki mdm bit... so I have to go through the whole process again. Its just very tiring and we only have 20 of the things. The Chromebooks are so much easier PS. Its prompting for the iTunes password after every instal now, there is no 15 minute wait. I have seen the setting on the MDM console but it doesn't make a different. So sick of putting in 123456

Hi, My first jo in the holidays is to shift a smartboard to another room an I have hit a snag. For some reason the ST-20 projector isn't changing the keystone when i go into the + bit. Really weird. The - goes way way down but when i click into the + and keep going to 30 it doesn't change the image. I only need it nudging 2 or 3 settings as its only just out but can't work out why... hope its not faulty. Anyone seen this?

How did you get GADS working, the link above just says that Google does it. I am finding GADS a bit frustrating although I have the syncing for users working okay. Its deleted groups though so I think its the LDAP query that's not working.

Yes this is possible. We currently have ours setup so staff keep their emails on exchange and the kids emails are in Gmail. You need an email address for all the users you want to sync then just not enable Gmail for the domain. It won't affect your current exchange unless you change the MX records.

Doesn't matter, I bit the bullet and downloaded it from the app store on a different computer. £14 wasted but I have 10.8 on an old mac mini now so I can deploy IOS 7 on the baby iPads.

Hi,I am having a mare with my chromebooks. I have assigned static IP addresses through my windows DHCP but they are coming up with bad address / already in use randomly. I have set an exclusion range so they don't get reassigned and when I get rid of the reservation and reassign it then it works but randomly they are showing up as bad addresses / address in use.Bonkers.They are managed devices and it would be wonderful if I could set a static IP but I can't find the settings.

Morning,I have downloaded a legit copy (I can provide receipts) of 10.8 to force into my mac mini but I can'#t for the life of me find the website I saw that told me how to 'fool' the mac into thinking its a APP I downloaded from the app store. Its something to do with the sharedsupport folder but I have searched forever and can't find it. I am trying to use the MLfactor to get 10.8 onto a unsupported mac mini.Anyone know how to do it?

If I wanted to share it will everyone can I use a wildcard? I thought this would work but its not listing for the kids.

Hi, I have messed up my OSX install (second hand mac mini) and need to reinstall OSX. I have a ISO ready but wanted to do it via USB. Does anyone know how to burn a USB for OSX. I think I did it previously but there's loads of articles about it and my head is swimming. I did buy a legit download copy of OSX 10.8 so this isn't a pirating request.

Just what I was told, I would have expected them to also. I do wonder if they have just emailed their requests across rather than phoning someone. I have sat on their payment anyway. the worst thing I have emailed Google loads of times but no one is getting back to me.

Another 9 days of waiting. Stone are telling me Google are not getting back to them as they are in America????? Seriously. A global advertising company like Google only works on Eastern Time. I am so p******d off with these devices and I haven't even used them in anger yet. To add fuel to the fire the offer for a free smartphone when you buy them is not working either as the serial numbers aren't showing up.

Very frustrating, it either spins saying loading or comes up with no results. Meraki phone support has me on a long waiting list for help... I hope the fact that it is free doesn't mean they won't help.

Mmmmm. I don't seem to be able to search for apps on meraki this morning which is a pain as I have 2 paid for apps to deploy. IOS7 to blame?
