I used Firestreamer which allows you to use USB hard drives as tape drives... its not perfect but it works very well. Been using it for a couple of months and it does the job, you plug in your USB, start Firestreamer then tell it how many tapes you want to hold on the external drive. The config gets saved onto the external drive so when you have finished and changed drives you just load the config in Firestreamer and lock the door in DPM. I got a really good discount from them when I ordered.

Just a heads up if anyone wants to use a USB hard drive as a external backup device (tape drive) I use Firestreamer and it works almost brilliantly. Think it was less than £100 for the license and now have a couple of 1.5Tb drives for external backup (not using it for all my servers yet) A thing that annoy me about DPM 2010, changing the hard drives in the server to bigger ones is a pain... there is workarounds but I couldn't get them to work so ended up having to delete the groups and make them again. Love the Hyper-V recovery though... I have it backing up 4 now and am well pleased with it.

We had a demo of a well known text messaging system this week which plays nicelyt (hopefully) with Sims but he couldn't answer the grroups question... as in, how do you allocate students to groups say if they are in Yr11 Cricket. This popped up again when I got a brochure for sims training courses which says Also included are features of the Extra Curricular software: set up routines for services, programs and sessions; allocation of members, leaders and rooms; links to SIMS Assessment, Cover and Attendance Anyone know where this is in Sims? I found a support article from a while ago but it just said it would be updated when more news came out about it... which hasn't.

OMG - I am just sitting through this tripe... it makes Lost look classy I have counted 4 c words, 1 naked girl and the worst CGI I have seen since plan 9. Thank god for my laptop and facebook games.

I got my order, I thought it wasn't too bad as it was the following day.. they will reinburse the delivery so not too bad although.... .... I purchased a Acer repaired item, really good value so i thought I would take a punt on it, I had been bitten before with one of these but it was less than £200 for a really good spec machine.... switched it on and it beeped at me It was the graphics card so i removed it and got it working... haven't decided if I will keep it as I left it on over the weekend and I can't access it anymore.

Have to say that the box is really quick this morning after the updates. I have been looking at logs and they are miles quicker at updating than before.

Ever since BT swallowed up Dabs I'm beggining to get more and more annoyed with them. I used to really like their website, especially when you could drill down searchs to brands or drive or cpu variety but now the website is awful... I've had to cancel a few orders because the deliveries are taking longer and longer, if I ask for next day then I... well.. expect it next day. Misco are brilliant for delivery but their website is a pain also. Shame cos I have spent alot at Dabs and built up a really good relationship with my account manager.

Just installed the Auth 3 thingy and... it doesn't like me. I currently use NTLM (terminal compat mode), if I try and enable the second proxy it says Error - NTLM can not be used in non-transparent mode when the second proxy port is enabled. To use non-transparent NTLM, disable the second port. To use NTLM with the second port, turn on the transparent proxying option on the guardian->proxy->web proxy page. I don't want to enable transparent proxy or allow direct access so it looks like I can't use it Error - "Block direct web access" and "Transparent" cannot be enabled at the same time I suppose I was expecting too much, I've never had the block direct access unticked... isn't that a security risk?... weird

This election is depressing... but you can watch the election night in HD on Sky... what advertising muppet thought that was a good sales pitch to get HD. I won't be voting again this time, we were sat at the pub at dinner and we agreed that if an MP came in and paid for out bar tab we would vote for them... well except the Eton boy, he would need to pay for the food too.

Its supposed to be where you can point clients to different proxy ports so they authenticate differently, I am hoping I can keep all the domain machines using the NTLM crap and allow non domain machines to use the SSL page.

Cool, how do I get it, do I need to sign my life away in blood or something?

I wanna go drinking with these people... they seem fun

Is it me or is it a pig to configure for a school? Trying to lock it down is driving me nuts. A nice ADM would be good that says 'get rid of all the stupid new folders that are not used in a business enviroment and just allow the user a home folder' Windows 7 enterprise still creates a saved games folder????? What the hell is that about.

Just got in after seeing Iron Man 2. Not sure what to make of it to be honest... the first half was a little slow but I suppose thats what you expect when they are trying to build a back story but the last half hour was amazing, brilliant fight scenes. Watch out for the wink to another superhero film coming out when he does the big ring thing... made me smile. All in all... slightly underwhelmed but I did have unrealistic expectations. Now onto Inception

Think its been sold out for ages but I think they released some more recently.

Just got back from the opening night of his tour at the MEN, a great warm up act and a fabulous encore. He will never be able live up to his first tour but it was excellent none the less... a great night out. I would also recommend using a metro station and park out of the centre... it was so easy to get home.

It ended up going away for repair as far as I can remember.. was expensive.

Love it

Just got back from the cinema... what a brilliant film. An adult comic book film with realistic violence, a great cast, a nice wink to previous super hero films and it didn't drag.. the pacing was superb. I can't praise it highly enough, get your arse to the cinema... (not your ass... I am english ) Oh and some great trailers... Scott pilrim vs the World looks fun, the A-team looks good too... and of course Iron Man 2

@Avalon Glad someone else is seeing this also. Nothing that I can see has changed on my system but the clients are not being updated correctly and now the ones that I manually have upgraded are slow as a snail. Its the same setup as before, support told me to run the exe's in the setup folders of the server to update the setup folder but that didn't help. Oh and Solus 3 is useless IMHO. Tried it twice now... its still rebooting the clients without notice and for some reason it overrules the mapped drive.

Its cocked up my system Clients not updating correctly and when they do its ridiculously slow to save.. except when I do it

I am running DPM 2010 Release Candidate at the mo for testing backing up to internal drives. It doesn't like my tape drive and doesn't like external drives so my solution is to use firestreamer with it. It creates files on a external hard drive that DPM thinks are tape slots.... its a bit confusing to start with but I think I have just about got it. The reason I am using it is the giveaway prices with a schools agreement and its friendly attitude to hyper-v. Only taken me 3 weeks to sort it out One other thing... 2008 r2 doesn't support hot swapping eSata out of the box.. crashed my server a few times with this.

A tip if you want to save a bit of money if you decide to join. Don't do it at a house, the tiniterweb is £20 cheaper.. I found this at my cost.
