I have just renews my smoothie licenses... if you ask nicely they are usually quite accomodating with the pricing.. I got some freebie licenses cos we are a boarding school but still think the licensing could be better. Have to say I hate the filtering menus but they work so can't complain too much.. I would rather have a poor menu system thats robust than a fancy flash one with poor filtering. I will make a list of the things I like and hate and pass it onto you Tom, one thing that would be nice is virtual supprt out of the box.

I have a corded SDS drill which I got from Screwfix, I know I am not supposed to have one in school but I do it in secret. Cost me about £60... need it at my school as the walls are about a metre think and very hard.

I watched that and agreed with everything Clarkson said... even our lass said so.

Hated my experience, sorry. Will never go camping again. I am a light sleeper and I got about 2 hours sleep on Firday night and about 4 on Saturday night. I quite liked the camp experience but give me a proper bed any day of the week.

Hi, I am in the process of upgrading some switched in school and caused a bit of a mess up today. I have a Netgear GSM7224 with a fibre module in it as the backbone. I have a older fibre switch which takes fibre from another part of the school and feeds it down another fibre pipe to the main cabinet... so they are seperate. I just purchased a GSM7248 and a fibre module and another GSM7224 with the module to replace the other backbone and get rid of the fibre switch. As soon as I plugged the into the network the whole system crashed. Sorry its hard to explain without getting the crayons out.. The fibre was coming into the 7248 which links across to the 7224 and then down the backbone. The lights came on the links but its messed up. I am tempted to purchase another fibre module and just make it to the link comes into the switch and goes down a secondary pipe.... so it doesn't go anywhere near the 7224 and allows.

I use Phocadownload, I currently have hundreds of documents on my live site and its really powerful.

We break up at 12 tomo also. can't wait.... have my scruffs in the car ready for tomo afternoon when I start running some cables.

I went down this road before... buying a very very cheap Acer for a classroom thats not going to use it but again... I am up against Acer and XP drivers. The internet used to be a fun place to look for drivers, looking at FTP sites etc... but now it just seems to be crappy sites wanting your cash.. so annoying. Anyone got any drivers for a X1301.. I have the audio (w7 driver worked) but the lan isn't around... and the graphics

The statement about a pitiful salary is quite vulgar.. are we as a country suppose to pay more taxes to pay a new employee £30k + a year straight from university. We are facing big cuts and huge deficit but this union again comes out with stuff to rile up the miners again... sorry I mean the teachers.

Hi, I have been tasked with getting a couple of smartboard and projectors for the junior school. I installed one last year (a ST20) which I am happy with but the installation arm is ridiculous and looks like a tank turret. Its angled quite hiugh so its pretty useful for the year 2 kids and the teacher who can get under it quite well. Does anyone have a recommendation of a good cheapish short throw projector that throws the image quite low for a smartboard thats almost on the floor and a nice mount as the ST20's aren't about much and the angle isn't the best.

I am getting this round my school also, its the only product key I can remember by heart which I have used for years. I think I only used it when I needed to input one manually, I used my new one from VL in my sysprep file.

We are a private school so no contacts at other schools but I suppose I could ask.

Hi, When I was away last week we had a blip on the network (first time in 4 years and it was because the idiots where turning the power on and off in school) so I have been tasked to look at external support for my system. I work alone and like it that way... they will have to use thumbscrews to get a password for my system .... but I realise that if disaster happens then it may be an idea to have a backup person ready. There is no one in school to do it so I am thinking of an external company. Cost is a big issue and the system is probably only set up so I can use it correctly but I need to do this. Has anyone got something like this in place? I am in Yorkshire and I don't really want a company on site but just someone to come in...read the documentation and sort stuff out if I am not available.

I used Firestreamer which allows you to use USB hard drives as tape drives... its not perfect but it works very well. Been using it for a couple of months and it does the job, you plug in your USB, start Firestreamer then tell it how many tapes you want to hold on the external drive. The config gets saved onto the external drive so when you have finished and changed drives you just load the config in Firestreamer and lock the door in DPM. I got a really good discount from them when I ordered.

Just a heads up if anyone wants to use a USB hard drive as a external backup device (tape drive) I use Firestreamer and it works almost brilliantly. Think it was less than £100 for the license and now have a couple of 1.5Tb drives for external backup (not using it for all my servers yet) A thing that annoy me about DPM 2010, changing the hard drives in the server to bigger ones is a pain... there is workarounds but I couldn't get them to work so ended up having to delete the groups and make them again. Love the Hyper-V recovery though... I have it backing up 4 now and am well pleased with it.

We had a demo of a well known text messaging system this week which plays nicelyt (hopefully) with Sims but he couldn't answer the grroups question... as in, how do you allocate students to groups say if they are in Yr11 Cricket. This popped up again when I got a brochure for sims training courses which says Also included are features of the Extra Curricular software: set up routines for services, programs and sessions; allocation of members, leaders and rooms; links to SIMS Assessment, Cover and Attendance Anyone know where this is in Sims? I found a support article from a while ago but it just said it would be updated when more news came out about it... which hasn't.

I got my order, I thought it wasn't too bad as it was the following day.. they will reinburse the delivery so not too bad although.... .... I purchased a Acer repaired item, really good value so i thought I would take a punt on it, I had been bitten before with one of these but it was less than £200 for a really good spec machine.... switched it on and it beeped at me It was the graphics card so i removed it and got it working... haven't decided if I will keep it as I left it on over the weekend and I can't access it anymore.

Have to say that the box is really quick this morning after the updates. I have been looking at logs and they are miles quicker at updating than before.
