I would recommend M$ DPM if your on a schools agreement, really easy to use and nicely scalable. I backup Hyper-v servers, clients, exchange and SQL with it.

I've managed to get XP on them now so I am a little happier with their setup.. all the utilities are working also... only thing thats not is the LAN driver. I think these will be fast enough with XP... just going to tighten up the policies a bit to make them fly.

Still trying to see the benefits of W7.. oh except for the wonderful libraries function. I will be sticking with XP for a while yet unless I have to. I've just bought some little N109 notebooks which have W7 on which I am still undecided what to do with.

I seem to have a bit of a problem deploying new agents. I tried to install but got an error message so I thought I would just use the trusted Simsinst.exe to install the base image to the workstation. When I go and try to install the Solus 3 agent I am getting 'No connection can be made because the client actively refused it' There is no firewall on the client, I turned it off. i cannot delete the client as it says the install is active so I can't remove it from the database.. when I click 'check status' it comes up with the error again. This has happened on a few machines for no apparent reason.. its a brand new install of XP SP3. Anyone got any ideas?

Just ordered another 19 machines so need to get my head round how I am going to use them on my network... I fancy leaving them off the domain but the pain in the arse about having kids log onto their home drive and the internet means I will probably just create a really small GP for them and do some filtering so only thsoe machines get them. Not sure how the nice dolphin desktop will work with domain users either.

BINGO, the reason I will keep XP on my systems till W8 comes out

Sorry, doesn't help when its on either.. when I am in Fireworks it just gives me the option for my home folder with recent items and desktop at the top then all the stupid folders W7 creates for you... this happens with other programs too.

If anyone is interested in testing joomla on IIS I have just got it up and running really easily. It installed to my MY WEBSITE folder but its just for testing at present, going to try and export my other Joomla install onto it now. Hope this helps someone. PS.. the only reason I am messing with this is to test UAG with Joomla inside my network... it words with IIS on a standard site so wanted to see if it was a joomla issue or WAMP stopping it.

Just installed it as I wanted to run joomla 1.6 on IIS... very slick and shiny but like most things it seems to be rubbish underneath. Actually scrap that.. its not too bad. Its a shame that it decided to put my new website in my documents instead of giving me an option and the lack of database export seems a bit stingy but its very easy to get it up and running... trying to get myphp running.. oh and installing php was just 2 clicks and it automatically downloaded it... very Ubuntu esqe. One thing.. it did install it on a random port but it allows you to change this on the front page.. very nice

Hi, Hard to explain but whenever I go to browse for a file, say when I am uploading something to Joomla, it only shows the my documents folders and won't let me chose the network drives. This seems to happen sometimes but not others.. I can get round it by putting a shorcut to the drives in my documents and some programs let me type in the 'Look In' box but I am going to hit problems if I ever decide to relase this monstrosity on the pupils. Anyone know how to let it browse the network for files? When I click on the arrow for the dropdown to browse the files it shows Desktop then my home folder other folders in it like My Documents.... what was wrong with XP's way of doing it??????

I use the file screening feature of windows 2008 to stop the desktop.ini files from being created... works a treat

Can you remember what software runs the screen buttons? I can't get them to work and I have installed everything on it? Also, have you set it up on a domain... I seem to have an issue when I have 2 accounts as the auto rotate only works for the first person who logs on.

Interesting reading, another company based in leeds have phoned me several times offering a similar service to which I usually reply 'We are a very small school and I only use little deskjet printers in most classrooms'. they still say they can save me money.

Okay so Stone gave me a link to their FTP site where I got all the drivers from... it wouldn't install from a USB so had to buy a external DVD drive.. XP wouldn't take at all so I am stuck with W7. All seems fine except for the Hard Drive Protection utility, it won't let me calibrate it and it seems that is linked to the acceleratometer which is linked to the autorotate for the table screen Has anyone got this working on W7 ultimate? It came with the bog standard W7 but it wouldn't let me upgrade to ultimate. I am quite impressed with it so far although the screen takes some pressing to get it working... thank god for the warranty.

After a bit of reading it looks like its a rebranded classmate laptop. I have tried installing W7 from scratch but I am getting errors about the hard drive even though it sees it... might try XP on it.. i like XP

Hi, We (well the smt) have decided to go for laptops in the library for junior pupils so I have purchased a lovely Stone N109 to see how I can use them on my system. As they have a touchscreen I will be using the godawful W7 and try and lock it down. Has anyone purchased similar notebooks for junior kids with touchscreens? When I started the notebook it has a program called blue dolphin on it which looks interesting, much much better than the start menu. I am also a bit concerned with completely reinstalling W7 enterprise and losing this interesting stuff (stone didn't send me a driver disc)... suppose I should image it and just try it

I sold my bike a couple of years ago on eBay.. can't remember how much I sent it for... I *think* I used parcel2go for about £25, I went to Halfords and asked them if they had a old bike box I could use (they took a brand new bike out of a box for me and gave me the box... nice men) and packed it with tape and bubble wrap in the box... just turned the handlebars sideways.

How about Microsoft UAG, its a dog to configure, hard to administer and difficult to change the splash screens. Whens its working its fine though, especially the remote apps. Oh and its not free

Its the disk controller I am waiting for, I have a case open which told me the new driver would be released in a couple of weeks.. which was a couple of weeks ago.

Mmmm... I added another Ip address to the server and changed the IP address on the camera and it still didn't work. I was hoping to just use the one switch so I can test VLANS... no inter switch traffic fromt he cameras, the camera and server are ont he same switch. What I don't understand ( and need to read up on) is why use VLANS if you have to subnet... if traffic is on different subnet then why vlan anyway???

I was hoping just to use port based VLANS and not use it as a router. I think I need to read more up on this stuff.

Thats what I thought I had done but as soon as I untag the default port the camera stops responding to pings. I haven't done any DHCP stuff, I just want to get the vlans working on the same IP range.

I am in the process of looking at VLAnning some of my network. Firstly the IP cameras just by port based VLANS. These are netgear switches so I think the teminology is slightly different. On the switch I have untagged port 1 which holds the camera with VLAN 99 I have also untagged port 23 whcih goes into the server. As soon as I remove the untagged on port 1 for the default vlan I cannot ping.. shouldn't this work? Both are in the VLAN 99
