Hi, It maybe the Friday afternoon feeling but I am really getting sick of Zen and thinking of moving our FTTC away from them. Took them 4 days to reply to a tech support question once and now I am having another strop with them. Thing is we need unlimited (Zen give us 500Gb which we sometimes go over and have to pay extra for). I notice BT do it but I don't want to get into bed with the devil and the 24 months contract is putting me off.. I just called IDNet to ask them about there package which offers unlimited but got sick of being on hold after 15 minutes. Anyone got any suggestions? We get around 30mb downloads which is great and its pretty rock solid.

The EHLO works fine on the exchange box. I will have a go when I get home to try it through the smoothwall box on the secondary connection.

Yes its points to the exchange server DNS name.. I wondered if it should point to mail.*domain name* like my MX record does.

Morning, I am having major headaches with emails from btconnect.com which for some reason is not being delivered properly. I have done hundreds of tests, had a massive post on technet and experts exchange but cannot solve it... Zen aren't much help either. So I decided I needed to rule Zen out of the equation and change my MX record to point to my second ADSL line so the mail would come through my other box into the school to my exchange server but I cannot get it to work, the MX record seems to have changed fine online. I asked Zen and they said it was just a case of changing the MX record on the web console which I did and the mail appears to be hitting my exchange according to the smoothie logs but its not getting delivered. I cannot see where else I need to change the settings.. I have a PTR record on Zen also which I haven't changed yet btw. Stumped as its suprising how many btconnect addresses there are. The weird thing is that my other line is a BT line so now I am paranoid that BT hates me I am 95% certain its not an exchange issue.. its a new build and the same thing happened on my 2007 box I am 75% certain its not smoothwall I am 50% certain its not Zen I am 10% certain its not BT So annoying when you can't sort this stuff out. BT's response was that I needed a return report no less than 48 hours old as they rotate there logs, which i sent them but then they said it wasn't a BT business customer so they couldn't help. Hate big companies.

Not sure how Solus 3 can get credit when the old system seemed to work perfectly well. The client checked the version number and if it wasn't right then it installed the updates. The new system is fine and dandy if it didn't break the connection everytime a database update installed. If there is any problem with the client then the outdated client does not work.. where are we.. 1996? There should be at least an option to tell the user that it needs an update instead of going to the username and password with an incompatible database error. The heartbeat update will be good but come on.. this should have been put in at the get go not after the horse has bolted and they have annoyed lots of techies. Not getting at you by the way, just annoyed at another problem.. I really wanted Solus 3 to be the answer... they really should have looked at how others did the updating.. anti-virus software for one inparticular Sophos (not the best av but the console is great)

Got it sorted.... was nearly 3 hours on the phone with them but the tech was good. Its a shame now my Solus console is all messed up as he had to deploy the update 9 times to get it working. One computer in particular hated it and stopped it deploying to the rest of the machines which they had to replace a DLL on to get it fixed. Agreed about the next release of Solus 3 with the pinging... he said its a common issue where the console thinks there is an error on the machine and calls it as a fail when its really just not turned on.

Got mine working, Solus 3 messed up AGAIN which they said will be fixed int he next release soon.. my advice.. wait till that get released.

its an upgrade. I have a long list of machines just showing in progress (for over an hour now) I think they need failing and redeploying in the SQL table.

Sorry, its nothing to do with the firewall. Last time a support engineer had to remote in and change the fails on the Solus console to something else so they would deploy. I can't remember which table I need to change or I woudl do it myself. I have one machine stuck deploying holding everything else up. I've logged a call and expect a reply within 28 days.

No wait.. it does nothing. Have I signed up for a Beta release? The normal way I fix this is run the simsapplication .exe from the Sims driver but that not working.

Just seen the redeploy link on Solus 3 but it does all the failed ones.

Morning, I noticed the release of Autumn last night so thought I would deploy it. It seems fine for the computers that are on at the time but any computers which are off fail and don't update. Now I am in the situation where most Sims computers are getting username and password prompts becaise of incompatible database. The deployment history says 'An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host' , the logs says loads of connection attempts failed. I can't believe they don't have a deploy now or check now for individual machines after you have approved the updates. And why in gods name do they push the database update seperately even though its in the main update so when you redeploy it messes about skipping these on the server before it starts the clients. Utter utter garbage.

Was tempted till you mentioned Open Sauce Bit far for me but might give it a whirl.

Hi, Just a quickie. If I set up my switch for a VLAN and then attach a cheap wireless access point to it or a mini non managed hub will this still work? My setup is I have a Netgear switch which is attached to a smoothwall box whcih gives out DHCP to clients in VLAN 55.. the uplink goes to another switch, do both ends need to be managed?

Managed to get it to work, I think i must have chnaged it to mirrored mode when I was trying to get it to work yesterday. As I can only use 2x2 Quad rank dimms I put them in 2 and 5 then stuck the new pair in 6 and it booted up ok. So I am only able to use 2 of the white sockets as they are quad ranks... the new memory has to go into the normal slots. At least I know now.. my other T710 looks like its just configured with normal ram not the Quad ranked stuff so upgrading that will be easier. Thanks for the help.

Memory upgrades from Crucial.com - Search Categories Dual Ranked registered. I found a bit of the internet which says Note that only two Quad Rank DIMMs may be installed per channel. This is due to thelimitation of only having 8 total ranks per channel. But its just Dual Ranked...

Morning peeps, I am wanting to upgrade the memory in my poweredge T710, it currently has 16Gb in so I bought a pair of 4Gb ram and intended to put them in pairs to bring it up to 24Gb. Problem is its configured to use the Advanced ECC mode (from the factory) and I can't get it to use the full 24Gb (it recognises it but doesn't use it). I have the config which is a little confusing but I am wondering if you can only put them in 4's in the sockets to use Advanced ECC. Judging by what it says I have to use slots 2/5/8 and 3/6/9. The manual is from the Dell website but I am a little confused as slots 1/2/3 are white ones. I am pairing them up with each bank of ram A1/B1. Has anyone got one of these servers that can shed some light on this for me please. I got a warning the last time I booted up telling me the banks weren't paired but they are now as I removed the new ram and am just running it with 16Gb again.

Currently we use XP an the start menu is divided into subjects with their programs listed... how is the fisher price menu going to handle that? I appreciate we have to move with the times but this is supposed to be a business product not a ipad competitor.

Hi, Just a warning for anyone who is updating to the latest version of Browsecontrol.. I just installed it and its removed the shutdown/wake/reboot/lock off the Browsecontrol and put it in a new module that you need to purchase. The new version is awful compared to the old one so I have removed it and am going back... thankfully the stupid thing didn't allow me to updat ethe clients or I would have had loads to do. Simon

I think its an issue in transit, I set up my exchange to capture NDRs but there isn't any. Its more than one sender but this is the first to send me a NDR report, everything works fine with Google mail, yahoo etc. Its with Zen to see if they can see owt up with it

Hi, Its late and I can't get my head round this but some people who are sending our school emails they seem to be getting NDR records from BT rather than Zen...is this a hop problem or something I am doing wrong? Its intermittent and seems to affect only some users (I am waiting for a cert from RapidSSL which is not getting through at all) Any ideas??? Evening All, I have just bought a new laptop from from BT Business on their very attractive offer (£200 cashback) for a Samsung 200B. Has anyone else got one of these as I am wondering if the mousepad is faulty. My problem is I used to have a lovely lenovo which had a nipple (fnaar) so I am not used to pads. Its a daft pad which goes right up to the buttons and others have tried it and it seems fine but with me it keeps stopping (except when I want to show people). It might be I am just accidentally touching it wrong but its very annoying..its got a thing which allows 2 finger pinching which I have turned off. I have played with the settings and updating the drivers and its very intermittent but concerened it may be faulty.
