Update: Queue is playing up, some are routing and others aren't.

Thanks for the help. restarted the PPPOE connection on the smoothie and it got a different IP address. I think it was a BT problem. Also removed the smarthost and the queue went.

Looks like all the port forwarding on my firewall is down too. So I have 2 possibilities The firewall has got all screwed up. Bt have swapped a cable over somewhere and their routing has been screwed up.

Actually no routing is going through the firewall now. Sooooooooo. Exchange looks fine (ish), Smoothwall looked fine too according to their techies so that leaves BT. 20 minutes on hold today so not looking forward to tomorrow. I cannot connect to any ports in school (exchange, outlook anywhere, HAP) or even the smoothwall box itself. Tracert to my statics is timing out at the last hop but that could just be cos its blocked.

Yes to smarthost.. its been like that for 2 years and never missed a beat. I don't use any smoothwall spam stuff. The smarthost is set to mail.btconnect.com, I have been on the BT forum and they are changing over to office 365 so I am wondering if they have been toying with settings. Strangley when I run the exchange tools I get errors about connecting to the smarthost on port 25 and it not accepting emails from me... but I can telnet it on port 25.

Over the past few days I have had issues with emails and remote access. Now I am sat here looking at the exchange queue growing with a error "451 4.4.0 Primary target IP address responded with 421 4.2.1 Unable to connect". I was playing with the excghangeconnectivity tool as the staff had reported that their smartphones had stopped connecting to exchange. (mine has been fine). Rebooted it a couple of times but not sure what is the issue.... I have phones Smoothwall just in case there is something array with the routing but they found nothing.. and the 20 minute call to BT was a waste of time. No emails are coming in either which is even worse as last time it did this they all got NDR'd. Think I need to go home and connect from home to check the telnetability of it all. Anyone using BT for their ISP and having issues? or better still anyone know a magic button I can press to get it all back working.

Just an update. I have a quote and its not as scary as the full blown version. Real shame they don't do write back to Sims (SchoolAnywhere does) and I need to see how it integrates with Sims. I have a logon to play with to check it out. Its sub £10k for us by the way.

I don't have this issue as our Westie wolfs them down whenever they get dropped

My beautiful daughter is amazing, a smile that cab melt my heart from 50 paces and so much fun. But.....I have had more sickness and bugs in the past 3 months than in the rest of my adult life. Off again today. I do want to teach her to share but this is ridiculous

Got GAPS working. Google responded within 20 minutes of my enquiry although I did end up solving it myself. It seemed to stop the GAPS working when it got tot the Smoothwall account that smoothie creates in AD. I drilled down the Base DN further and its all good now. Just need to lock it down more now. When they log on they seem to get loads of stuff to mess with.

Its taken me approx 10 minutes to sync my users with Google apps and create them all accounts. It took me 3 days to get it working with M$ 365. Not saying one is better than the other but if I can get password synching to work in another 10 minutes I am sold.

Given it a right good clean, stripped it down as far as I dare and blasted it with air. Still poor. Might be back on ebay as a home theatre projector.

Hi, I took a risk and bought a Sanyo PLC-XE31 from an IT recyclers. It didn't come with a remote and these things are buttonless so I got a cheapo one from ebay and after switching it on it was very dim. The bulb warning was on so I thought I would buy a new bulb as even the cost of the projector and a bulb it would still be a bargain... but its still too dim to use. Anyone got any suggestions? I think its only a 1500 lumens projector but all the lights have to be off to watch it.

I have ordered a demo Lightspeed box so will be interested to see how it works. The only thing thats putting me off is the £££ in buying a new firewall to run alongside it. I think my smoothie renewal is for June so have a bit of time to decide. Even with the awful support, rubbish logs and clunkiness of the interface I may be forced to stick with Smoothwall. (it does work though so not all bad)

One fo the things I may be looking at investing in is a new wireless system liek the meraki or the Ruckus stuff which does a bit of that. The demo I watched of the Meraki stuff showed ou could limit doesnloads on say youtube site or peer to peer sites.

Got it working using the overscan registry hack, doesn't look right though so don't think i will use it. Shame really, i was enjoying swearing at the screen with all the changes and not being able to do anything logical.

I thought I would jump in and try Windows 8 on one on the kiddies little Stone N109 notebooks... intel Classmate model but alas none of the apps work as the screen res is too low I have installed the screen rez utility to try and downsize it but I needed to install net framework from the internet, which opeded up IE straight away even though it wouldn't from the tiles. Have to say the install process is very pretty. I will force myself to use it and see what its like. The tiles seem to work really well on the little netbook though.

My SW renewal is up in June and although I have been a customer for 6 years I am thinking of jumping ship. The reporting isnt easy to read, the firewall logs are just baffling and the https stuff....geez. getting Skype through is a pain. Oh and their new support website is awful....sorry it is, there is hardly any articles on it and the search facility is pants. There, feel better now. On the positive side, the timed filtering is ace, especially for us in a boarding school, false positives are few and far between and its pretty much install and forget. My biggest issue now is it doesn't feel like its moved on, it still reminds me of smoothwall 1, a fanboys project. Yes the filtering is second to none but what I want is it to be easy to use. Onto lightspeed, can't comment. I have tried a few times to talk to them but they never get back....maybe its the filtering companies way. I don't like the idea of the client install, it having to fork out for a new firewall but if it does the job simpler and as effective as SW I will be tempted. Need a demo though. Ps. If SW are increasing their support costs for the same service then I can't see me staying loyal.

Morning, We are looking at getting 10+ PIs for our school and wondered how other schools are deploying them. They will be moving between 2 rooms and I cringe thinking of kids unplugging and plugging vga cables as the pins will get battered. I bought a cheap VGA manual switch but they will still have to plug in the VGAs unless they live on that machine for good. We bought the PI with one usb and no NIC which is a pain cos my USB hub is not supported and buying even a cheap one takes it up to the next model up price.
