I'm sure in one of my chats with ESS when we came away from FMS that when you stop paying, you are no longer entitled to any upgrades. Ours certainly still works three years on. Just don't try and move it to a new server as you won't be able to install it the normal way.

It's slow at all times, for everyone so I don't think it's due to others running large reports or third party things otherwise presumably it would be sporadic? Been like it for weeks. Server disk space is fine, no snapshots running. Backups are overnight. We are using Wonde, but that's not currently doing anything.

The host seems to be ticking along quite happily. It's got 24 logical processors, of which I've given the SIMS server 4. So even though the usage never seems to waiver from it's 16GB it uses, it's still worth me setting Maximum Server Memory to 20480MB? For info - It is full SQL, and we don't run FMS.

Morning, When we try and do pretty much anything on SIMS, it's taking an age. I don't mean asking it to process data, I mean clicking the "Student" button at the top, or trying to open the "Report" screen. Surely these should just be trying to load different parts of the GUI and don't involve much data transmitting (apart from what permission the user has in that menu) yet I see a spike in network traffic. I've already shrunk the LDF. The server is a VM and has 40GB allocated to it. The mdf file is a little over 6GB. According to Task Manager, the server is constantly using 16GB of that. In SQL Management Studio, The min and max memory are the defaults of 0 and 2147483647MB. Anyone got any ideas what's going on? Stuart

If by "main one" you mean your original 2010 server, so long as you can get tls 1.2 working on it, you can hybrid that and migrate up to M365. Unless you've already started moving over to 2016?

Does your server support TLS 1.2?

I'm not sure it will help overall, but I went from Exchange 2010 to M365 at Easter using the hybrid stuff, didn't need 2016. Sorry, but I'm unsure why it stalls at "Adding federated domain". So long as you've done the TXT record and port 443 is open to your onsite Exchange, it should talk I thought.

I did fruit picking one summer holiday 30 years ago. I can't remember the exact numbers for raspberries but we got paid something like 45p per pound we picked. Then we walked back in to the same field, had to be more fussy about picking "the nice ones" and got paid 40p per pound but they were for M&S. So yes, M&S had a higher standard of product but actually paid the pickers less!

Hi all, I don't know how long it's been an issue, but it's only been raised today with me. For all users, on any device on the network, when going "Reports" -> "Run Report" there is a large spike in network traffic and SIMS .net says it's not responding for around 30 seconds, and then it all wakes up and works. I've been through their article of "Addressing performance issues" recently anyway for something else, so I know the server is fine on space, ldf is shrunk, patches applied, validated memberships, etc. Anyone else see this? Anyone got any ideas? Thank you Stuart

We recently banned USB drives. There were a few staff who "couldn't work without one", but since we've banned them weirdly they seem to have been able to work after all! Resistance coming up to it, but then have heard no complaints since we did it. We have a machine in our office for transferring things to/from USB so we know what is going in and out.

Never worked with them directly, just always never liked them but didn't know why. A few years ago we wanted to buy 130 laptops in one go. We went with Lenovo because the only reason not to was my personal, unjustifiable opinion of them. When the numbers are coming out that they are the best value, personal opinion goes to the side. Worst decision ever. Garbage devices, very poor build quality, especially on the hinges, and we were in touch with their support team regularly for five months immediately after purchase as we had Wi-Fi issues with them. The first four months was us being totally ignored by them.

^^^^ This! If a cyber attack gets in to your domain, your undomained hosts have one more level of protection. Obviously not infallible, but everything helps.
