Schools Broadband Internet Issues
Jawloms replied to JazzFlute's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
We were with SBB and moved to LGfL. We had to re-IP virtually our entire network, but the support from LGfL with both moving to them, getting things set up, and then their on-going support is so good that we definitely consider it worth the effort. We get tickets closed within minutes, or at worst a few hours, rather than days. They also get it right the first time rather than having to go back and forth a number of times. For example, with SBB on one occasion we needed to access an AWS site which was blocked to upload some data. We logged a ticket and they whitelisted Amazon video. -
Schools Broadband Internet Issues

@JDawgg - LGfL are brilliant. We moved there in September and they've been brilliant. If you terminate with SBB, even at the end of your minimum contract, they charge you £100 for the privilege of leaving them...... -
I've just started looking at putting a certificate on my Ruckus Wi-Fi, clicked the link above and ironically it has a certificate error........
-
Working fine here.
-
Are these all "Included with Prime", or available to rent?
-
Nothing, but like @BKGarry says, we're just not switching everything all at once.
-
LGfL. Can't recommend them highly enough. They include a decent AV and cloud backup, so if you're currently paying for those, you won't need to anymore. They also include all sorts of other stuff. SchoolsBroadband. Can't discourage you strongly enough. See various threads on EduGeek.

Sadly not yet......

The whole of ParentPay seems a bit of a joke if I'm honest. We are currently moving away from SIMS .net to Arbor. We've contacted everyone that pulls data out of SIMS and asked them to switch and they've all gone "Yeah, that's fine" and it's done. ParentPay though are charging £600 for the privilege. When I challenged them on the cost they said it isn't as easy as it sounds to do, they've had to set up a dedicated team to do it, it needs to be done to a very high standard, and they've got a lot of people moving away from SIMS at the moment so it's a very high workload. I didn't think it sounded easy, all the other companies have done it to a high standard, and should you be telling a customer that you've got a lot of people moving away from one of your other products? Plus, if SIMS could possibly be dragged in to the 21st century, the support was any good, and they weren't so money grabbing, you probably wouldn't have a lot of people moving away from it? People should be with it because it's an attractive product, not because you binding them in to contracts for as long as you possibly can so meaning they can't move away. Anyway - to answer your question..... SchoolComms talks directly to SIMS.

Ticket now updated by a senior team leader saying they are actively looking in to the issue and the work required......
-
Following on from contact from @SIMS_Customer_Support, the ticket was followed up again very quickly by the helpdesk. They re-iterated again that they just use the "sex" field and "it is not possible for us to change which fields in SIMS Schoolcomms pulls the data from" and we could add this feature to the "Wishlist". I have gone back directly to @SIMS_Customer_Support again with; and now I am not getting any response after nearly 24 hours. Are we really the first school to have this?

We used SchoolComms to send an email out to a load of parents of students who are in a school production. In SIMS .net one of the students involved in the production has their "Sex" recorded as "Female", their "Gender Identity" as "Boy", and their "Pronouns" as "He / Him / His / His / Himself". When the email has gone out, it referred to the student as "she". We queried this with SchoolComms who suggested we simply change the "Sex" field, but that is incorrect as it has to be their currently recognised sex legally doesn't it, and would therefore make the census incorrect. They then said it's because it pulls the data from the "Sex" field and closed the ticket. We re-opened it and said it shouldn't do that in order to remain DfE compliant, and they closed it again saying "Have confirmed which fields data is pulled from". Surely we aren't the first school in the country this has happened to? Are we doing something wrong that we need to change? We are in the process of switching from SIMS .net to Arbor for our MIS. Will SchoolComms still behave like this after the migration? Thank you Stuart

Well I take that back! ParentPay have just sent me an email telling me it's going to cost £600 to make the switch!! Wonde, GroupCall and StudyBugs all just went "Yeah, that's fine".
-
Costs? We've switched Wonde, GroupCall and currently switching ParentPay and have experienced no costs.....
-
We have just finished going through this. The only pointer you really need is to trust their process. They make it all very clear what to do when, and how.

Watched the first two last night. Very Guy Ritchie. Quite enjoyed it!

[sims] SOLUS 3 - Unable to Get an IP Address For This Agent ... ?
Jawloms replied to MyBrainHurts's topic in MIS Systems
Whenever I had this problem, I added the host name and its IP to the local hosts file of the server, did the install and then removed it again. We moved away from SIMS last week though! Woohoo! \o/ -
My Recommendations: Exam Laptops No Internet Access
Jawloms replied to MatTheTech's topic in Windows 11
We just set the exam accounts to have a proxy server that is garbage. -
We've disabled switch user for multiple reasons, one of them was that the agent installed for identifying the logged in user so setting their filtering accordingly would get confused as to who is using the web if multiple people were logged in. We received push back when we first disabled switch user, just like when we blocked USB sticks, but a few months down the line everyone has stopped complaining and realised they can actually still do their job, just like when we blocked USB sticks. We allow, and encourage, the locking of screens.

We use a dot of nail varnish. Green = Trolley 1, Blue = Trolley 2, etc. Very cheap, doesn't come off easily, can be removed with nail varnish remover when actually required. It did raise a couple of questions when I put the order in though.......

Morning, Monday we requested the latest version of Impero from Ativion, which they released, and our Impero Server says "Latest Server Allowed 8.6.38" and "Latest Client Allowed 8.6.38". For some reason it didn't properly download the updates to the C:\Program Files (x86)\Impero Solutions Ltd\Impero Server\Updates folder, so I have manually downloaded the update ZIP file and extracted the two MSI files in to that folder. In the server interface, on the "Connections" tab all the devices are "Active", and on the "Automatic Updates" tab, everything is ticked and "Update at any time" is selected. Our firewall isn't showing any blocked traffic. Nothing is updating automatically though. I have logged a ticket and they've given me a couple of things to try but now basically gone "Dunno, maybe push it out via GP?". If the mechanism is there to auto update, I rather feel they should support that so will be going back to them again, but wondered if anyone had any other things I could look at? Thank you Stuart

Just joined, same name.

The "What's New" isn't completely in chronological order. I've got "Last week" (1 day ago) above "Yesterday" (12 hours ago). See attached.

Yep, all seems good now

Will it take a while to filter through, as it isn't entirely fixed yet? LeMarchand's post on 3rd is still doing it, and so is yours on 30th Sept. For me anyway.....
