A few minor ones Registry hacks to remove the default icons on the taskbar and to remove the terminal shortcut from the right click menu. I've also chosen to abandon redirected start menus for staff, but they remain for students and they work. I've also removed most of the restrictions on placement of taskbar, pinning and the enforced start menu layout for staff. It will work for staff without any changes but they won't get the full benefit of the new start menu experience. Interestingly the complaints I've had most are dislike of the small copy/paste/cut/rename icons and the white taskbar. I've managed to create and enforce a custom theme to address people's dislike of the white taskbar - it's on by default, but optional for people to turn off. I'm also considering a reg hack to restore the original right click menu, but I'm holding out for a bit in the hope people will get used to it.

Don't touch the Konica or Develop with a barge pole. Nothing but driver issues and constant breakdowns. Out of those options Toshiba would be my choice, but Sharp or Canon would be my actual choice.

I've had this on windows 10 though... try manually starting startmenuexperiencehost.exe this has fixed it for me on windows 10 a couple of times. But other times I've had to just nuke the install from orbit too.

Ours all went a couple of days after building and we identified the sequence went: working (but no 2 fingers scroll) PS2 basic driver -> reboot after building: working automatically installed synaptics driver -> several days later: non-working windows update installed driver. We tried rolling back the driver but that didn't seem to work, but the random one we found on the HP site does and hasn't been overwritten by windows update!

Has the driver reverted to another installed version due to an update?

I had exactly this with an HP synaptics device and the fix was a specific windows 8.1 driver I found by googling the hardware ID.

Really unhelpful, but yes, pretty normal. Only twice out of 8 signups have I escaped excess construction. One was a new ISP using us as case study so they threw everything in - construction, router, media converters, everything! The second was because the connection cabinet is literally againt the school fence 10m from the NTE across some grass.

Perfectly stable on the machines I have it on... 3ghz Core2Duo, 8Gb, ram, SSD - PPA machine Gen 1 i7, 16GB ram, ssd - Admin Machine 8th gen i5, 8gb ram, NVME - SLT machine 5th gen i3, 8gb ram, SSD - Teaching machine 5th gen i5, 4gb ram, SSD - Teachers laptop The only machine that has had any problems is an IT suite Core2Duo with integrated graphics - the login screen has blocky artifacts on it. Seems to be OK in use though.

Context: One of our internet connections is gig sym, I have a mix of Unifi APs that are connected on gig or 2 gig copper back to a switch, all of our switches have 2 or 4gig fibre back to the core. The router is 10gig capable but running a 1gig SFP directly off the core. On a workstation connected close to the core I can pull full gig - maximum of 1026mbps assuming nobody is using it. Moving away from the core internet speed drops off to around 800-900mbps at the furthest reaches of our site on a wired connection. On a laptop with a DLink Wireless6 adapter in it, connected to a wireless N access point (due to be replaced at christmas) I can pull 80-90mb with nobody else connected. Average in use is about 30mbps but can drop as low as 10mb with 30+ devices. The same laptop connected to an AC access point sees an ocasional maximum of around 350mbps with nobody else connected and average 90-150mbps, dropping to around 30-50 as the station aproaches maximum devices. We only have 1 wireless 6 access point and one wireless 6 capable laptop so I can't test it to saturation, but I can pull 800mbps off that reliably.

We're a bromcom house and whilst it is orders of magnitude better than integris and sims that we've had before it still has it's glitches - mainly from the finance point of view. The school is used to using SCOPay finance software and compared to it Bromcom is very very clunky for the finance staff to use, particularly debtor reporting which is important as we have both a paid-for preschool and a paid for wrap-around care setting. IRIS are going HARD with their marketing, we've had highlighter pens in posh boxes, seminar invites, cold calls, emails...

I've not used any of their big switches, but I use their SFPs everywhere and I've deployed loads of their 8-16 port POE switches in CCTV and phone systems without any issues at all. GUI isn't as refined as the latest switches from DLink Netgear and HP, but it's perfectly fine.

We've had an issue with opening multiple files, and every time, it turns out to be a sharing issue - the 'smart notebook you are trying to open is open elsewhere open a read only copy?' prompt stuck somewhere between other open notebooks hanging the software for the files already open, or a prompt telling us that smart is taking a long time to open and do we want to wait, it doesn't come to the foreground, and you can't click on the taskbar to find it, you can only alt+tab through to it.

I tell people not to get too atached to their profiles, they aren't forever. We redirect everything important, including desktops, and we encourage password sync to any browser password manager, that way if a profile goes bye-bye the worst that happens is having to reset default apps and the outlook profile

My former employer has just moved from the VBox environment I set up *cough*8YearsAgo* cough* to Replit.

We use a combination of Mailchimp - for 'manual' bulk messages and Amazon SES for bulk from our MIS.

You may have some luck resetting them in recovery mode with itunes? Depends if they are just locked because you don't know the pin, or if they are activiation locked in which case you are stuck and you may as well e-waste them.

It's nice that they're being upfront about it instead of essentially gas-lighting people like a lot of providers do, but wow, what a massive whoops!

I've had docker running happily for 2 years now. It's never crashed. It's been up and down for constant docker updates , but never crashed. I've got 3-4 other containers running, like Unifi Controller, Moodle and an internal Joomla site too. It's an 8yr old Dell T110 with 16gb ram and a half TB SSD.

Starting now. I have 15% of one site active on it already, no issues. People have been way more receptive to it than they were going from 7-10.

I've just looked at my update history and my machine shows that an office update in April last year pushed the file version number of outlook.exe past 4599

It seems to depend how you read the reports. Some reports suggest that at some point unsupported system will simply not get updates, others suggest that unsupported systems will not be offered updates at the same priority as supported ones... I'm not sure how WSUS fits into all of this as I'm currently authorising updates for Windows 11 and they're appearing, applying and reporting fine on all harwdware?
