Have you restarted said printer since updating the IP address. Have you tried to untagg (set the PVID/Access vlan, etc) on the switch port where the printer is plugged in on that specfic vlan instead of trying to set specific vlan on the actual device.

Use GPP with a shared printer then use loopback processing in a policy covering a OU where the computer that you want to get the printer is. Make sure you select the appropriate mode i.e. Merge or the other one which I cannot remember. What printers are you using by the way. Apologies if you have tried loopback processing already.

I would not bother using VTP either to be honest. We have 700+ switches on site and get on without it. There are things you need be wary of revision numbers, etc. to name a few. It does not matter what is the native vlan is for a server connecting to a switch as long as it matches. It is also better not to have any client vlans untagged on uplinks, in actual fact it is best to have all the vlans for clients, servers, management, etc tagged on uplinks if possible then leave vlan 1 untagged as it is best not to use for client traffic anyway.

Along with similar lines I'd see what you actually use RM for which can be done in a Vanilla environment and how. And I am not pro one way or another, RM still suits some orgs.

Jus examples of switching needs not been specific :-) For example we have stacked switches at the edge and some top of rack but also chassis switches at the core and top of rack, but we do have 4 core switches running ospf. All of our switches are managed though apart from some basic 4 port unmanaged switches in very few places like 3-4 if desperate (in preference to cable economizers if there are cabling constraints or limitations). But we do have 700+ managed switches.

Switching wise you can go for the following but as @FN-GM mentioned it really depends what features the organization needs (and/or wants to spend) Basic layer 2 switch with no vlan/management all the way to stacked switches with layer 3 dynamic routing (OSPF, BGP, etc.) You need to check the Aruba switches, not all are lifetime warranty these days although mostly the firmware is available for download without a subscription for a lot of their switches but check before you buy.

Could actually be multi-homing. But yep painful unpicking others work sometimes, lol. I'd have a look to see if they had RRAS (Routing and Remote Access) service running on the server at one point.

We had loads of issues in the last place, students were sending huge resolution images in documents to the printers and it would choke them up.

Not saying cheap is bad but I had a cheap Lavalier and I was not impressed, recently bought a SmartLav+ and this seems decent when paired with a Behringer Q802USB. The only thing to be aware of is that if you get the SmartLav+ you will need a TRRS (Tip Ring Ring Sleeve) to TRS (Tip Ring Sleeve) adapter if not using with a smart device/phone. Connecting to a Transmitter should not be that difficult with a suitable adapter. What is it going to be used for and in what environment i.e. Outside, inside performance? Prob recommend a impartial (non-sponsored) review on YouTube.

Personally got 4 synology's all purchased from eBuyer, no issues. Go for the plus version what ever happens and try to allow for a bit of future growth i.e. get at least one more bay than you need. Always purchased without drives then filled with my own. Still running a DS1621+ and a DS1517+, sold a DS1515+ and a DS918+ both for reasonable money as they were still supported at the time. I'm using Synology to backup O365 stuff but only one mailbox and one users OneDrive. I know the CPUs can be a bit behind other manufacturers but I cannot fault them, some older units had CPU issues and PSU issues but I think they have been resolved now.

Jus add the WDS server as a IP helper address along with other IP helper addresses if you need them. You can even have apple boot servers as ip helpers on the same vlan and they will work fine.

From what I can make out it is using iSCSI (or similar) storage and they use the same switch. But yes you are correct, previously I've managed and administrated SAN FC switches and quite a few years back ran a iSCSI storage for ESXi on 2 redundant switches/controllers/NICs separate from our own network. The highspeed 100Gb will connect multiple datacentres I'm assuming for storage/HA etc.

It is a new project/solution where unfortunately the supplier had assumed we had stacked aggregation switches in the datacenter. They have like a hyper-converged setup with storage and high power 1U servers which includes using their switches which have 100Gb uplinks as opposed to ours which are all 10Gb max. I don't think routing is an option as we'd have to re-ip our servers, the current plan is to simply migrate the VMs from current blades/SAN to the new solution, this is joint effort between networking and systems teams. But it is a worthy point.

At a previous employment setup and used PowerShell to process a CSV outputted from the MIS. We did have the advantage that we had a inhouse DB admin who could work with the MIS system database. This worked for both Staff and students. Many years back we used access DB to manipulate the fields. The PowerShell was the most seamless and used to email me when it had ran and/or if it failed to create AD accounts. It was in a college so there was a big yearly intake of students and worth spending the time and effort to get it to work. For staff it added them to the correct groups from the CSV file. At the end of the day you are going to get user/human error at some point even down to HR not typing the name correctly. So is it worth spending the effort to fully automate it is down to you.

I'd see what the teacher is actually trying to do first hand, it might pay off, CC email offers of spending some time with the teacher to the head to cover yourself. Ignore the comments about home network, cannot compare the two.

They, prob will straight off because it is always a networking issue , as a last resort have you tried testing the panel next to the switch to rule out cable (apologies if you have tried this) also test it on another switch if you can.

Is the paxton panel working in any other switch of the same type, what is the PoE standard of the panel it does not require poe passive or anything like that does it?

P2P WiFi link is going to be a whole less hassle than having to setup and manage a VPN for the short distance. Save yourself a lot of hassle. And you should be able to carry over the same vlan if necessary so you don't have any routing issues between the 2 sites.

80/20 split scope between the 2 DCs is my normal method depending on lease time. You want the lease time to cover the time to bring the other DHCP back into service. You don't necessarily have to use the split scope as long as the DHCP IP addresses ech server gives out do not overlap but using it makes it a lot easier. I know new versions of Windows you can do DHCP failover but I think the 80/20 is good enough if you have enough room for maneuver in the IP ranges and you don't have to worry about setting up clusters of anything. Did try DHCP failover myself many years back on server 2012r2 but did not have much success might of improved now.

PSTN switch off isn't that going to effect them certainly in the UK?

Were prob going to go in 2025 anyway :-)
