I never buy spinning disks for boot drives. They are either M.2 or SATA SSD. My Windows 10 home PC has a SSD for boot, a 1TB HDD drive for mass/slow storage and 2 SSD's for Video work. Booting and working with Apps is so quick.

Have you got Duplex mismatch on the ports, This can cause the link to fail.

What they are probably suggesting is that vMotion cannot be used as a method of redundancy or High Availabilty. But yes this is probably why Veeam should work because it is an as is backup. But it would be better to build a new and import the config in my opinion as you will end up with 2 devices on same network sharing same MAC addresses if you do a backup restore of the VM otherwise.

Altenatively what about building new,migrate the config accross, deactivating old and re-activate new. Maybe your PaloAlto support/reseller could advise best/supported method. I've used Veeam before now to restore to different hardware in a LAB but never done this in a production environment.

What connectors are you using, LC? If you are using ST or SC are they around the right way. Generally you will have 2 cores one rx and one tx.

Have you tried different patch cables either end, the green blink is what you normally get when you plug an SFP in as an acknowlegment. Don't be tempted to look down the patch cable with your naked eye but I normally use a phone or something similar to check for light as a very basic test.

You should be able to download the VMRC from VMWare web site directly. This will give you the ability to get to the console of the VMs. Yes it is a bit of a shame moving a way from the Thick Client INMO as I've used VMWare since ESX3.5 a lot has changed. I'm not over keen on 6.7 web interface personaly but moving away from flash is a good move.

Should avoid logging in as a Domain Admin. Create elevated accounts for Domain Admins and use these only if required.

This got me thinking to a few years back when I had to change a server 2008 R2 to Enterprise Edition and it was a simplish command. I only wear a Garmin Fenix 5 watch during training and max of a few days, I get skin issues if wear a watch permanently. It could be worth me getting a watch that does not effect me but after 18 years working as an mechanical engineer and the last 13 in IT I've kind of got used to not wearing a watch.

I use BandiCam, I have paid subscription but the feature list is good. You can have webcam and screen captured to different files, external voice device on seperate files, very configurable and has not let me down once.

Indeed you will only have issues if you have not logged onto the laptop before taking off site and may to find issues if you change password then do not log off/on again before taking off site.
