I have a Draytek at home and had to put a route to the internal IPV6 networks via the firewall WAN interface. In the end I just used a summary address. I had to junk the BT Business hub because it did not support IPv6 routing to route the traffic via my firewall. BT were pretty clueless when I asked them what IPv6 addresses I should be using for gateway etc and I had to work it out myself with a lot of trial and error, you can be lucky and get a engineer that knows a bit about it.

It's a real shame there is not better support for Windows Server OS on the Intel NUC without hacks.

Start with real basic connectivity checks as others have said. i.e. ping tests, see if you can telnet to the smtp relay on port 25 etc. If you are using smtp.google.com I'm pretty sure you would need to authenticate to send emails, I have postfix servers running at home and needed to setup the credentials to authenticate to send. NO linux expert either but I needed to do it so just googled when I came up against a problem. There should also be a log file on the postfic server, normally /var/logs/mail.txt this may also pinpoint some errors, monitor the file with a command such as tail -f /var/logs/mail.txt whilst you test send an email from the device. The only issue with using gmail is that you need to set something up on the gmail account to permit the postfix to send email via the account, off the top of my head I cannot remember what this is right now, I stopped using gmail to send emails a few years back.

We have a separate internet connection for a large department that I have setup IPv6 for. The rest of the network we have not any plans for IPv6 as yet, too many other considerations. I have a huge /56 IPv6 range provided by my home ISP which I am using internally, whilst IPv4 public IP addresses I have got the most that BT will give me of a /29.

Spanning tree could be a cause. Are there any logs on the core switch where the vlans are routed? You could run a packet capture on the vlan to see if you can spot anything.

As a test can you pre-create a folder on the c drive and change the xcopy to copy the file to the folder?

We have over 100 HP Switches that are 15 years old, up to a few years back the Firmware was upgraded. We still get NBD replacement from HP for these switches. They are still good enough for what we need and no Business drive/incentive to replace.

That does cover the power side and is a good bit cheaper than getting HP, Cisco, Juniper etc with redundant switches but I was thinking more or routing redundancy, gateway redundancy or Stacking especially if you are using as a layer 3 switch, but no I would not use them as a core switch. I did have a few ES-16-XG switches at home but sold them as they did not support IPv6 routing, VRRP etc., apart from a few lockups solved by updated firmware they seemed reliable enough and at least a third of the cost of competitors.

Unifi/Ubiquiti gear is great but it simply does not have some of the enterprise functionality in my opinion i.e. High Availability/Redundancy etc. Bear in mind the 1 year standard warranty where you can get up to lifetime for some switches you need to bear that in mind as well.

We had switch user enabled at a previous place but had nightly reboots of desktops. This was mainly done to combat the issues where people were changing passwords on one device but leaving another device logged in with original passwords and getting locked out.

All our new switches are Aruba but run ProVision OS (i.e. 2530, 2540 or 2930). Some run ComWare OS so probably more appropriate if you work exclusively in the command line like us. Realistically you are not going to get anything like that under budget. It is possible that you could get a combination of a RJ45 tone generator/probe to identify cables and a simple wiremap tester. Perf3 would give a good indication of speed obtainable between 2 points on a IP network. Anything more is going to cost you at least double you budget. +1 for pocket Ethernet.

So he earthed a Electrostatic generator to a PC? Do you getting any beeps from the PC at all. I'm thinking motherboard damage but could be more, i the PC under warranty.

I have had no issues with BT as a consumer but I have a few stories from a professional aspect for sure. It is amazing the mix of customer satisfaction. I left VirginMedia for the second time 4 years ago for BT and moved to a business contract with BT about 2 years ago for public IP addresses. No bad experiences so far. I started using a DrayTek router from second week into the contract and although they said they could not support it I have had no problems what so ever.

This is exactly what we done at our last place. We had a shared desktop for students which they could not save to but we could quickly place short cut items on for the students to use. It is possible to re-direct appdata as well but I would be careful and block things like iTunes so the phone backup data does not fill up your users home drives.

Can you connect to the UPS using PowerChute with a USB cable and see what is going on? Or alternatively connect via Network if it has an NMC card.

Netgear do some I think but not cheap, the M4300 series 8X8 (the fans kick in at certain temp by the looks of it), the Aruba 2930f seem very good from my experience but the only silent option is the 2930f 8 port PoE+ with 2 X SPF+.

The Edge switches like the ES-16-XG does routing between vlans. But you cannot use the cloud key to manage Edge Switches, the best you can do is centralise backups with their management software unless they have added that option now. There is little resilience in Unifi/Ubiquiti products apart from the possibility of additional power supplies. So if you are looking at resilient gateways/stacking you may want to look else where. Some people have mentioned the possibility of using VRRP in the command line of the EdgeRouters.

For anything old with little value they are not interested in giving you anything more than you can get from a scrappy. I've sold a couple of cars on ebay and am always honest and never have any issues. I tried them with a 1998 Volvo V40 T4 I bought a year Earlier for £450 and they offered me £50, I put the Volvo on Ebay and got £350 after advertising the car for 1 week. For a quick no hassle deal it may mostly be worth it in some cases.

Ping the naughty device from another laptop/desktop on the same logical network (vlan), open a cmd prompt on the laptop/desktop and do enter arp -a find the MAC address in the list next to the IP address and then trace the MAC address through the network, locate the switch port and then locate the wall port location. If you have cli access to the switches it should make it a bit quicker as you do not need to use the GUI on multiple switches. I've done this many times before when we have needed to find a Router that someone has plugged into the network unknowingly giving out wrong IP addresses effecting service.
