  1. Thanks - will ask when I go tomorrow may have to end up paying
  2. My wife was in the 'extremely clinically vulnerable' group - aka shielding so we are VERY keen to get the flu jab this year just got a message from the doctor's surgery saying that the appointment has been cancelled next appointment available is in a month Oh good email to MP being composed edit having rung the surgery - apparently part of the problem is that they would normally expect that people will make appointments and the not turn up Not one single person has failed to turn up for a flu jab appointment- hence they have run out and the next delivery is in November - in 4 weeks time!!! so the good thing is that people are taking it seriously
  3. Have you a link to the original - that image is a bit difficult to read OK who said something about me getting old?????
  4. Yup - wife commented that it looks nice I was busy looking at the setting menu to see if I can fiddle I guess we have different priorities
  5. Personally I can't tell as I don;t really push the hub anywhere near its limits anyone found a list of the 'improvements'?
  6. So - in specific terms - ALL data from schools in the UK is stored in the UK correct?? and - only in the UK correct?? thanks
  7. OK - got mine working - no problems for reference - acted like the SSID password was wrong until it had fully configured - finally worked fine once up connected to the hub so your points above 1 - yes 2 devices are named as their MAC address - but not my laptop or the TIVO boxes - not sure what they all are yet - although I assume one is my desktop connected via Powerline - 2 - everything seems to appear twice - dunno why 3 - yes - my laptop is showing as high speed - but broadband tests haven't changed speeds - TIVO and MAC named devices showing as 1000 Mbps - other wired ( smart tv) named properly and speed as 100 mbps anyway - seems to work
  8. Some of the students I have seen seem to think the whole 'University Experience' has been destroyed because they can't have sex with random people and go to loads of parties I actually saw one students saying he was being deprived of his right to do this no mention of education and learning so it is not the learning part that is being complained about - but the sex and parties and, at the time, takeaways being closed - which was unacceptable
  9. This concept of - let the young get the virus and lock 'the old' in their houses is fine except that 'the young' have an annoying habit of wanting to see Mummy and Daddy - who have an annoying habit of wanting to see their own Mummy and Daddy illogical I know but and some of 'the young' actually seem to get Covid - sometimes quite badly so then the hospitals get full up - like totally full so when the invulnerable young get injured in an 'incident' outside a pub - turns out A&E is closed as the hospital is full and, funnily enough, other things don't stop so inconsiderate people get cancer and need treatment but the hospital is full of Covid people so who do we designate as not worth saving even though we can which is why lockdown and masks and social distancing and why people need to listen to reputable news sources and my stepson's mother-in-law needs to realise that the wonderful facemask she found via Facebook is NOT a substitute for a mask relatives are difficult
  10. I'm not really sure of the applicability of Zoom backgrounds to a professional meeting/discussion/conference seem like a proper library (if you are in politics) or blank wall is more sensible I can see some groups suffering from background envy leading to unhealthy competition maybe just me - grumpy old git who has never used Zoom
  11. Never had a male dog (stop sniggering at the back) but I have experience of lawns and female dogs It they get into the habit of weeing in a specifc spot the grass is toast!!!
  12. How come I have only just seen this???? must pay more attention anyway - belated Happy Birthday Edugeek
  13. Just deleted a response to this stuff Damn it is difficult to keep this non political but the most important thing is to prevent the hospitals getting overloaded anything else has to come second and the number of Covid patients in the local hospitals is growing fast
  14. Maybe this could move forward if someone can specify specific problems with using Zoom e.g. a specific security concern a specific question - or problem - with a problem using Zoom Then @PaulZoom can answer naturally links would help - especially in the answer Seems like there is little point in just "we use Google so why should we use Zoom" type messages Although this may be true - there are enough messages on this forum suggesting some school IT people are having problems with people insisting on using Zoom so if you have a problem with that - you need to know you are correct - and now someone with access to full information (??) is here to answer which sounds like a good idea
  15. That's a bit nasty be more helpful and have them wander around the school asking people if they need any help with IT problems if they say 'yes' they can respond with 'Have you turned it off and on again' or alternatively 'All you need to do is log the problem and the support people will be along in a week or two' (that was the case when I left my last school)
  16. Looking at other posts on other threads - I think that the important point is that staff in many schools SHOULD use Teams or Meet - because this links into the stuff they already have but 'some people' still use Zoom anyway Hence we (well not me as I'm retired) need to know what problems still exist and whether or not problems that we have heard of are (a) real and/or (b) are fixed and - I suppose - whether or not it is legal to be using it (sounds like Yes at the moment) - and will continue to be so after the current problems have been sorted e.g. if school bow to the demands of staff that like Zoom - we need to be able to inform SMT is this is going to cost money in the near(ish) future if they look like committing to a policy of using Zoom for everything - probably against the wishes of IT
  17. Ironic - I used to live in Bangor - which is quite close I was reading the news from that area yesterday and Bangor's virus rates have rocketed - the Welsh Government have imposed the strictest lockdown of anywhere People from the area should not leave - and even should shop within the lockdown area People from outside the area are not allowed to come into the area, even just to go to Tesco In case people are wondering - Bangor has a University - the virus spread has been put down to the students coming from all over and ignoring the social distancing etc - then wandering round the town shopping and drinking etc - as students tend to do
  18. At my last school I basically did everything for the replacement of the printer/photocopier contract which amounted to thousands The Head was fully aware of the value - and we discussed the aims and the School's ideas of future printing and copying needs no-one ever mentioned any LEA procurement requirements OK - it was only a Primary School - but anyway I was expecting a procedure to be in place but I was told o f nothing and - as far as I could see - previous discussions had been rather more naive then professional I think most of the respondents were shocked when I had requirements and expectations one - apparently well respected bidder submitted a bid that didn't even add up - literally had columns that had numbers with a total at the bottom but was not correct - or even close other just ignored my requirements totally and just submitted what they wanted I ended up having to get 2 extra bids so I could have 3 sensible ones and I only asked for 5 most wanted to come in and talk to me - but when they did they just wanted to say how wonderful they were and avoided numbers I got the impression that they were used to schools just listening and not requiring actual facts and numbers eventually I got 3 decent bids and ended up saving the school thousands over several years I got the impression that the company had to draft in someone who normally dealt with corporate rather than education the first person I spoke to certainly never re-appeared made it clear to me that a lot of companies regard education as unprofessional, naive and gullible AKA a cash machine
  19. found this kinda belongs here - sorta title Hunting Dog For Sale
  20. Fair enough - I would rather watch him that most (possibly all) 'influencers' or Rick Astley obviously
  21. I read on another site (Clearly a less important site than this) that the dog was alone in the house he/she was just doing it anyway - funniest thing I have seen all day thanks for the laugh p.s. I have seen worse piano playing on TOTP!!!!
  22. I can't see any sign of the missing letter - but I am assuming there was one
  23. Hmmmm Not The Watch but still could be good - but in a standalone sort of manner I would have though that doing it properly would have been better - and get more viewers
  24. Very - especially as one case could be a signal that several (or more) are wandering around unknowingly spreading it and this when this area has just upped the lockdown levels so the pubs etc etc etc are now closed
  25. my wife was tlking to our daughter-in-law (or would be if they got married) and her mother yesterday The whole family is convinced that this virus is the fault of the Chinese and they released it from 'that lab in Wuhan' she had to give then a quick but firm lesson in what the science actually says they were amazed and asked how she knew this stuff so she had to follow up with a quick lesson on reliable sources and looking at a spread of sources and they don't even listen to Trump!!!!! it is no wonder a lot of people are confused
