And anyway - if it (whatever 'it' is) is compressed by the weight and them releases the compression at a later point where it assists the rotation of the wheel then we are back to perpetual motion - so, unless the whole basis of physics is way out - something is going to counter that concept

I think they are trying to say that when the spokes reach the bottom the springs are compressed by the rider's weight - then when it goes back up again the tension is released and converted to rotation - hence free power which is great - just get a massive version and put a big weight on it and use it to drive a dynamo and connect it to the National Grid - free electric!!!!! errr - no

Not sure if this will need its own thread but We were just talking about Christmas - and and the news announced that The Sun - yes, I know - says that there is discussion about having 5 days of Christmas where you are FREEEEEEE Hmmmm anyway - we were wondering what we will do We normally go to wife's son's house and have dinner with him, his partner and the 2 kids - but she will have a very new baby by then. Normally they like having us there because we can distract the kids while they do stuff This time I think she is overwhelmed - and very worried about the baby etc etc etc - so she has said they are going to her Mum's this year so that's probably out We would probably be invited to wife's sister's house - but it will be crowded if we go there as she has 3 grown kids - plus their partners (OK boyfriend in the case of the 18 year old girl) - and we would probably end up having dinner on our laps in the lounge due to lack of room company would be good - environment not so much and anyway - her husband is waiting for an operation and has diabetes - so not sure what they will think - although as they seem susceptible to every conspiracy theory out there who knows!! (that have not mentioned Qanon yet - we are waiting!!) so - plan C - go out to a pub for Christmas dinner - just checked - all the ones we like (or liked before lockdown) are closed or are saying they are booked up - which could mean several things so that is out and anyway - no sure if that is safe - would get a nice dinner - but might die - swings and roundabouts and all that so dunno we have plan z - small turkey crown already in the freezer so we can just stay at home and have dinner here with or without visits to family - or having them coming here - during the morning I guess we will wait and see and make a decision as late as possible what are others thinking??? a) what is allowed b) what we think is safe

As with most things go back to the actual Teaching and Learning targets of the project last time I was involved with any kindles they had been bought (without IT approval or involvement) because it was an easy way to save money which didn't work because no-one who knew about IT was involved until they got into trouble as usual I would suspect that someone has come up with an idea which is 'obvious' - but has no clue how to do it in the real world and is thinking of doing things that are illegal

The mass testing in Liverpool is being extended to the whole Liverpool City Region - plus Warrington (for those who are confused - the LCR is Merseyside plus Halton - because of reasons) Which is good - we will be included and so can get a test hopefully it will help - although the number of cases around here does seem to be dropping anyway - presumably due to the Tier 3 stuff annoying thing was the number of seriously negative comments on the Liverpool Echo website about it lots of "no-one is putting a swab up my nose" type comments and a few implying the test will infect you with the virus (???????) hopefully these are a minority - but sometimes you just despair of 'people'

OK - the answer is - probably anyway - people who frequent the less technical threads will have realised that I often go out riding a bike OK ebike - it has a little motor which assists pedalling a bit for reference - it is street legal and I normally ride it in one of the lowest power levels anyway - today I went on my normal loop - about 20 miles - takes about 2 hours including a 10min break for a drink and chocolate biscuit (shhhh - my wife doesn't know about that bit!!!) then a route along potholled paths through a nature reserve - followed by a cyclepath/towpath along a canal back home anyway - today, at the start of the nature reserve there is an old road - in bad repair and leading only to a footpath and a big wide tractor and trailer with MASSIVE wheels was coming along it towards me as I know the driver of that thing regards the path as his, all of it - so I pulled over to let him just get past he passed - AT SPEED - because that is what he does - and I started off again as I started a bloke - 40s ish with close cropped grey hair and a good looking 'proper' mountain bike (hard tail if anyone is interested) shot past me at a distance of about 1 inch with no attempt at reasonable clearance or normal inter cyclist acknowledgement and shot off OK - I was annoyed but I have an ebike - and I ride it most days - but I look like a dorky old bloke wearing a high vis coat and a helmet - but I am fitter than I look (actually it would be difficult to be less fit than I look and actually ride a bike - I have always been like that!) so I sighed and set off then found my normal speed meant that I was actually catching him up slowly (OK I was annoyed I MAY have been riding a bit less carefully round the puddles than normally - hence going straighter) and there is a thing works with walking and running (huh - like I'd know) but definitely with cycling - where is you pass someone then you need to stay ahead - other wise you look like a prat - so you have to do whatever it takes to stay ahead this may only apply to men - duuno - I'm not a non-man anyway - due to the puddles and splashing - he would have been clearly able to know that I was behind him OK - I was nice and maintained a clear 10-15 yards distance but I wqs doing about my normal speed He was clearly pedalling hard I was not sympathetic then he decided to leave me behind and clearly accelerated now - at that point I MAY have been a bit unreasonable Now - I could have upped the motor assist - but I didn't I just pedalled harder - i.e. actually used muscle power and caught him up again he kept up the speed so did I - at a clear 15-20 yards - but consistent he didn't leave me behind it was a rough path - took some concentration to wind around the potholes - but I do this path every day - I know it after a while he just stopped - bending over the handlebars breathing heavily so I just sailed past and carried on at my normal speed about 1.5-2 miles later I got to a gate thingy - he was about 10 yards behind me - had been maintaining my speed looked 'puffed out' (other phrases are available) he kept behind me for a while - even along a nice wide road until I stopped a while later to clear some rubbish that had collected under my mudguards some time later I caught up with him again - he was doing the same loop as me he was ahead but - by chance - must have taken a slightly different route and ended up ahead of him when we got to a locked gate I let him through first as I had been checking it was locked and not just closed (there is a route round the far side for walkers and bikes boy did he pedal hard to get in front of me I am a bad person especially if you annoy me by being rude and entitled another thing people who follow my posts will have noticed I do tend to go on a bit at times

not quite that bad - minus 70C so dry ice will cool it enough transport carriers are available which are designed to have the contents packed in dry ice which a surgery can keep topped up but that will be a major problem and will dramatically limit the ability of places to store them in bulk won't stop it being used but could seriously slow down the speed of delivery to the polulation

on a similar theme is there a system that just controls the TRVs and how easy is it to replace a normal TRV with a 'smart' one - or do I need a plumber (note - I have a tame plumber/heating expert - but he gets busy so it can be a pain getting hold of him!)

Oi - some of us are cyclists and I don't do wheelies (mudguards would scrape on the floor if I tried) and anyway - we will stop breaking the law when all car drivers stop driving and using phones, exceeding the speed limit and not looking properly and pulling out in front of other road users which - as we know ALL car drivers do - just like all cyclist ride through red lights and all IT technicians etc etc etc sorry - was it the full on rant that you ordered or just the trial version??????

5 mph is really to slow for a 2wheel machine to be stable - actually will increase problems due to people being unable to keep a straight course current motor cutoff speed for an ebike is 15.5 mph - and a statement from some ( either a senior Police officer , or dept. of transport or some such thing) gave a guidance that bicycles on a shared path should not exceed 18 mpg if the path has any reasonable number of pedestrians on it these are too fast - especially the 18 mph - but work fine if there are only cyclists and everyone behaves sensibly then everyone has to behave sensibly and slow down as the number of walkers increases and, of course, people need to treat more vulnerable users as having absolute priority hence is a walker suddenly veers right when you are passing him on your ebike and you collide with them - then I would start with an assumption that the cyclist hadn't slowed down enough you might notice a major problem with the above ideas specifically it requires everyone to act reasonably MOST people will act reasonably - but rules need to be in place so the idiots can be blamed I have actually come across people on cycling forums saying that a person walking nearly knocked them off their bike on a shared path when they turned suddenly and the cyclist could only just avoid them - while doing the "allowed" 18 mph - FAR too fast to be passing that close to a walker
