  1. One school I worked in had 2 photocopiers 1 was on lease and was fixed whenever it broke as per the lease terms - fine The other had been bought - I think Moses had finished with it but was on a separate contract with the same company - which kept going up in price due to difficulty in getting spares and getting it to work In fact the back to back facility was useless - and it couldn't cope with more than about 10 copies at a time and if it jammed it took me (yup - my job - clearly - IT Teacher and sole IT Tech left me loads of free time) ages to unjam But there was no money available to replace it I was only there 2 years - when I left there was still no money available to replace it
  2. slightly off topic But - given the problems getting money out of school to upgrade stuff - I have found that lease contracts are great for stuff like this because the contract only last 1 few years (5??) after which it gets replaced or renewed - normally with a new printer Whereas if you buy it outright then the school has to fork out a load of money for new printers We all know where that can go More on topic (see I can be good!!!) when I had a similar problem I just Googled printer maintenance for the local area - although I did have to get a lot of quotes in order to get 3 quotes that were worth looking at (I have mentioned it before - but who putsin a quoite where the columns don't add up - for IT equipment??? - weird)
  3. Saw a headline saying there might be a shortage of Turkeys for Christmas due to the larger than normal number of people having Christmas at their own home rather than several related families going to a single house I suppose this will also mean that smaller turkeys are in far more demand $deity know what we are going to do - we have gone to wife's son's family the last 2 years - and they will have a new (very new - not born yet) baby this year but at the moment we don't have a clue what the rules will be so we cannot make anything like a plan
  4. TPS doesn't really work with the scammers as they are not UK based - they just ignore it and there is not a lot the TPS people can do about it It does stop the cold call people - it means that if you do get a cold call then the company is almost certainly dodgy
  5. What I was trying to say - badly on re-reading it - was that a wide angle lens allows you to point the camera in the general direction of where you think the subject might be Then frame it better when you get home and can see properly I do that when snorkelling with a cheap camera in a waterproof housing because the screen become invisible under water and in bright light
  6. FACE MASKS - I need computery face masks!!!!!! Very PC logos could be included I actually saw someone round here with a ManU one today so examples need to be set
  7. That is why we have wide angle lenses and editing software with a crop function
  8. I got an advert yesterday from someone selling anti mist clothes - they are supposed to prevent glasses fogging when wearing a mask silly prices so I have deleted it - but they have been selling them for cars for ages - might be worth looking at also - I find the main problem is when the glasses are a different temperature to the atmosphere - so e.g. when coming in from outside - after that they get better - but having a mask with a little mould-able metal strip across the nose helps reduce the amount of air that goes upwards causing the fog
  9. Is this a surprise to anyone?? clearly some school will have a worse problem than others - but it was always clear that 'some people' would refuse to give them back I presume that the people in charge have made plans for this (say this last bit is a sarcastic tone)
  10. I thought everyone used contactless nowadays????

  16. For humans natural selection has resulted in greater ability to co-operate and think about how to control the world around us is where it can be seen In other animals this has never applied to a significant extent - so selection by physical ability - or ability to breed has been the most powerful driving force This has not applied to us as much because of the other factors but natural selection has still controlled our development
  17. with a death toll that is massive at the time is was hidden by lack of knowledge and the deaths caused by injury, infection, diet, starvation and living conditions The real problem with the herd immunity concept for this is that it will result in a lot of people (by a lot I mean many thousands in every area) getting ill enough to need hospital treatment Hence the hospitals will fill up and will have no free beds AT that point if anyone else needs to come into hospital then 'someone' will need to decide whether the new person should be turned away or someone already in a bed is chucked out - one of the two will probably die so who do you choose - the IT Tech or the teacher The 66 year old retired ex army decorated hero - or the 25 year old single unmarried Mum on benefits The policy has to be - above all - to prevent this situation other things are also important - like the economy but that is the critical point
  18. 20. Noticed that the town where I grew up was in the news yesterday - so I checked Apparently the is a Gym there now - near the roundabout - and the owner was in the paper saying he was going to keep open anyway and ignore the new rules the article says he was on the TV news as well so this morning - strangely - he opens up and the cops turn up and warn him that he will get fined is he doesn't close they left but he stayed open So - strangely - they came back - and he got a £1000 fine he is expecting a GoFundMe campaign to pay for it idiot
  21. TBH I think people are being a bit hard on him It sounds like he is trying to do a bit extra to help on top of all the stuff hitting him from all directions at the moment so we can only reasonably expect an answer in a day or so - not sooner so - great that he is trying - but maybe this is not the best place at the moment maybe Chris can make some arrangements so that the people with the worst problems can use private messages to sort out the details over a period of time then the answers can be put here for reference anyway - Thanks for trying @PaulZoom
  22. I'm quite happy about 'out there' - I like being outside in the fresh air it's just the people that I want to b****r off and let me ride my bike happily up the path except that bloke I saw with the Gyr Falcon - he can hang out anywhere he wants because a) he seems to be hard as rocks b) he has a Gyr falcon - if he just lets me stand and watch her fly - my world will be happy
  23. Apparently some of us have other things that need to be done!! still trying to think what they are but I'm sure it'll come to me eventually
  24. Anybody interested in a free ride in a helicopter flight for 4 people?! I'm still looking for 2 more people to join us. We leave early Saturday (October 24th) morning from Liverpool Airport and will fly to Isle of Wight and on to Cowes where we will have breakfast and then on a yacht for lunch. Then we’ll do a cruise around the island and returning to Cowes for dinner, then fly back home. If interested please pm me. Preferably someone with a helicopter and yacht, otherwise we can't go...
