Thanks for the advise I think we are going to tell everyone to ring only the mobiles - then leave the landlines downstairs overnight hopefully the extra elevation will make at least one of the mobiles keep signal all night - we shall see

Hmmm - thanks for the ideas I do have a payg Vodaphone in an old phone - I will switch my number to this soon as Virgin (who use EE) have rubbish signal round here - especially indoors I might give them that number and keep the cordless landlines down stairs at night

Ok - things are getting to be a problem now Over the last few months/weeks we have been getting occaisional attempted scam/phishing calls normal rubbish - problem with Virgin router/hub - probably winding up to trying to login to my system remotely etc etc or maybe looking to take some details OK - pain but OK but now the frequency has increased quite a lot - several every day normally pretend to be from Virgin Media - recently Amazon Prime has become more common and - worst of all - they are ringing several time early morning - like 7:30 to 9:00 OK - doesn't sound especially early but my wife has sleep problems at the moment - and often the only time she gets to sleep is 5-6 in the morning - then gets up very late - so a phone call at 7:30 means she ends up with only 3-4 hours sleep over several days which is not good - I think worry about Covid/US election and upcoming grandchild no 3 is all part of it anyway - so nuisance calls are not funny any more tried all the usual ignore - they just try again answer and ask then to stop - they try again answer and shout- they try again answer and threaten - threaten what - they know you can't trace them via the spoofed number answer and waste their time - actually seemed to generate extra call the next day - could be revenge?? Tried TPS - not interested if it is a spoofed call - they are set up to stop genuine companies in the UK cold calling tried ACtion Fraud - it can be logged - but as I haven't lost any money that is all they seem to do Tried Virgin Media - they supply the phone line - helpful - but they can't do anything other than confirm that it wasn't them ringing We can't just ignore number we don't know when wife's son could ring at any time to say baby is on the way - and he could use the hospital switchboard (hence unknow number) or possibly someone else's phone or something (he works at the hospital so he knows people there) kinda at a loss - any ideas??? thanks silly extra - feel like a failure due to this it is affecting my wife and I feel I should protect her dumb but upsetting

I have seen some people passing on old stuff through this site - anyone know how to do it - or what the rules are?? at the least - someone could use them as backups/spares or contact people who sell refurbished ones - I bought some refurbished (i.e. cleaned up a bit) IWBs a few years ago and the people were desperate to get hold of used ones (sorry - not got the web site anymore!)

Just seen a list (on the Liverpool Echo - so not totally trustworthy) of businesses that will have to close pretty much what I expected except in includes Vape and tobacco shops Now - my life for some years has been based on one over-riding concept - my wife MUST NOT run out of vape liquid at least she doesn't smoke anymore - and she reduced the nicotine content late last year but running out of vape stuff would be 'difficult' I say this because last time the shop we use (when I say we - I mean I use) stayed open - albeit via a perspex shield in the door and you were served while still outside So - I'm not sure why this is different So - other who may need to be aware of this - so I posted it in the spirit of community assistance although I do wonder of Tesco will still be able to sell the expensive versions they have - and cigarettes etc

WHen I have been looking for a house previously I have seen 2 weird things first - chronologically - was a house in Bangor very run down - but that was OK - downstairs had been converted to be open plan - with the chimney breasts left in the centre - could be nice once tidied up Normal doors etc - normal front door at the front,double doors onto a steeply sloping garden at the rear - and narrow walkway alongside the house to get from front to back which is important when you start wondering how in the name of $deity they had got an EIGHT FOOT CUBE of concrete into the kitchen/diner seemed solid - and no sign it had been mode in situ - or built up in stages - and anyway how would you do it never mind WHY!!! Second thing was on Rightmove I was browsing through houses in this area found a nice looking house - detached, nice area, right price, right number of bedrooms etc etc etc so looked at the pictures all normal stuff - nice and tidy - clean and all that until I got to the master bedroom the bed was a normal king size bed with posts at each corner - except they were a few feet higher than normal - probably 5 foot each - kinda like a half done 4 poster and thick twisted ropes hung between each post forming something like a very loosely done wrestling ring in the bedroom?? when they are taking photos??? anyway - I sent a link to my (now) wife - she was at work at the time - apparently that just about stopped the whole office - SOOO many different conversations and suppositions

Had a strange one today Phone rang and the bloke on the other end said he was from Virgin and was ringing about some problems on the Broadband OK - could be - it was dodgy a few months ago - and we have just swapped to a new hub VERY thick Indian type accent - but still - could be anyway- co-operated for a bit he asked a few basic question - like how many devices currently using the system - I said 10 - all active then got me to test the speed using speedtest.net (I think) - told himn it was 20 download and 1 upload got passed onto 'senior technical somethingsomethingsomethingsomething' who apologised for several things and explain things like why the red lights are on the hub - hint - no such lights on this hub - just one started to talk about errors and warning being seen coming from the hub - sounding like he was about to get me to display the event log - which would show errors and warning - but by now I had finihsed my cup of tea (hint to scammers - don;t call me when I have a hot cuppa - I will talk happily until I have finished it) and I was half way through my lunch so I got fed up and told him I knew he was talking rubbish and hung up anyway - so far so normal a bit later I got a more unusual one lady - not much accent - from - funnily enough - Virgin - calling - about Broadband problems fed up by now but played along in case it was real. But same thing - so I told her I had already had a call from them and knew it was fake at which point they normally hang up - otherwise they are wasting their time but not this lady - Oh no - she was determined So I apologised and explained that I had had this scam call shortly before so I would require some proof that she was from Virgin so then - what is my account number?? she only went and told me!!! well - to be accurate - she told me AN account number - unfortunately I know my account number doesn't start like that so I asked her to confirm my monthly payment - she only did that as well 10 out of 10 for determination minus several hundred for accuracy - but anyway she then said that as I was so doubtful she didn't feel it was right to continue the conversation - but she is called Lucy and is from Virgin media I should call Virgin's tech help line and ask for her - they will but me back to her so we can continue - then hung up WHich surprised me!!! now - as it happens - I was in the middle of a conversation with someone from Virgin media via their 'community forum' - he was checking whether or not they had received my old hub3 that I sent back after installing the new Hub4 They had sent someone round to collect it yesterday - which was confusing But he was very helpful and found it had been received so - I asked him about the phone call - and whether or not someone was trying to get hold of me - thinking probably not - but as I am communicating with him anyway..... he askedfor the phone numbers of the calls - which he confirmed were not numbers Virgin uses I suspect the hanging up bit was not actually real - if I had dialled Virgin them someone from the scam people would have answered and passed me back onto 'Lucy' not had one like that before - especially the willingness to carry on after being called out apologies for the disertation ("from you - nooo how unexpected" - - they all cry) but it was unusual - so I though it might me worth the details

Quite a lot of anger round here as new help has been announced for places in Tier 2 - just as London goes into Tier 2 But no mention of this was made to the regionals Mayors etc over the last few days when they were begging for help especially Manchester where they have hardy been out of some kind of lockdown so it looks like help was not considered necessary because only northern area were in lockdown but now London looks like it is going the same way so suddenly something must be done I suspect events are moving too fast and things are too complex which is making it impossible to do things the way the papers want Commenting on people's feelings round here - not the politics - no political answer is expected and should be avoided
