  1. @Arthur ‘s idea is the easiest way. If you did want to call a script I’d be looking at the event log to see what error is it’s throwing. I’m thinking that you might have an issue with option not to store password being ticked and with PS code execution level. I usually put in an argument to set code execution level to run unsigned code just to make sure.
  2. Ah is this to do with the network profile not being set to domain after reboot? Can you post a screenshot of what you have setup in the scheduled task for when you call the PS script?
  3. Also don’t upgrade to each release. Check the end of support dates and update when needed.
  4. Thoughts on S3 of Preacher? I am really enjoying it after S1 and S2 ran out of steam toward their ends. Setting and characters are great and hopefully it will keep up all season.
  5. Yep, totally worth it. I don't think its overkill at all.
  6. @mavhc Oh is there an Edugeek IRC then?
  7. Not too difficult to exploit though: https://www.engadget.com/2018/04/25/amazon-fixed-exploit-alexa-listen/ Who know what skills the teacher has installed and what its doing? Also yeah, pretty sure it won't work through a non-transparent proxy.
  8. Ever been through an ofsted? It’s a big box ticking exercise. As stated, if an inspector asks you if your filtering vendor is a member of IWF and you say no, any arguments about the effectiveness of the IWF list will be ignored. You are not following government safeguarding recommendations. Not implementing government recommendations raises questions about safeguarding and leadership and is a quick way to find yourself failing. So yes, whilst people may agree with arguments about the IWF, ultimately if Mr Ofsted can’t tick the box, you could be in trouble. And I wouldn’t want to be explaining why my decision to save the school a couple of grand had such huge ramifications.
  9. Other than the government and ofsted expect you to have a filtering vendor that is a member you mean? That’s a pretty big motivation imho.
  10. Funny, I really like the Sophos UTM. Dead easy to use and make it do what you want. My only gripe is that the real time logs could be easier to read but it’s no biggie.
  11. We do this. Parents order online in advance so correct meals are delivered everyday. We have a list of who is having what and children get a coloured band. Servers check band and hand out correct meal. Works really well.
  12. Oh I get that and agree with you on the technical point. I guess I am talking from experience of being grilled by OFSTED on safeguarding and e-safety and frankly that argument would not cut the mustard in any way, certainly not with the inspectors I have had the misfortune of meeting. Again in my experience, an OFSTED drone is highly likely to see this as a safeguarding risk, regardless of the argument behind it.
  13. Thanks @Wave9_Lee Personally, given that the Keeping Children Safe in Education directly refers to the Safer Internet Centre's Appropriate Filtering Guide which states that the filtering provider should be a member of the IWF and "integrates the police assessed list of unlawful terrorist content, produced on behalf of the Home Office" I would be extremely nervous not to do this. I would not want to be explaining why we weren't doing this and the only answer being "It was cheaper not to".
  14. Thanks, is that a support channel? I am waiting for a callback from MS so if that doesn't go anywhere I'll be firing them an email
  15. Exactly why we need them!
  16. @localzuk Yep, there is From: https://support.office.com/en-us/article/office-365-education-self-sign-up-technical-faq-7fb1b2f9-94c2-4cbb-b01e-a6eca34261d6?ui=en-US&rs=en-US&ad=US From: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/mt844095.aspx Its the licence that our C2R installation is asking for. Also MS support are working out why there aren't appearing for us.
  17. @CommodoreS did you solve this? I am in the same boat and MS aren't really helping.
  18. Sounds like another misinterpretation of GDPR and just plain nonsense.
  19. @ReBoot perhaps I've missed it but I can't see where you are implementing the IWF blocklist?
  20. LA support told me that all FMS users need to be a local admin. We run FMS without this for years without any issues so should they be or not?
  21. Snap! Though we didn’t finish by kick off so a stream of the match magically appeared on the whiteboard in the room [emoji56]
  22. @bossman has a good point. Like most private companies, the water utilities won't push a measure that would reduce their profits unless its mandated by law. Southern Water pushed some figures about its meter rollout that showed whilst 60% of households saved money the remaining 40%'s bills went by a larger amount, hence water meters resulted in larger profits. Why spend money on fixing leaks?
  23. Yep we have kitted out the school in Broadleaf for the desktop and Thinbooks for the teachers. Really good service at every stage. Had a couple of issues with dead SSDs but support was really good and actually listened to the troubleshooting steps I had taken and sent a new one out for next day delivery. The customisation options are good too. Slap a smart school logo on your machine and runs at least 10% faster. Its a fact!* *not actually a fact.
  24. Yep available in different measures from here: https://schools-financial-benchmarking.service.gov.uk/
  25. I would advise you have a serious think about moving to a consumer broadband offering as it probably won't fit your needs. For starters: 1) Yes you may get higher advertised speeds but home broadband is designed for a small amounts of devices. How many devices do you have? Try running them all through the router you get with a home connection and you will struggle. Proper connection means proper equipment. 2) SLA: if you get a proper connection, part of what you are paying for is guaranteed uptime and fix time. If this is broken, depending on the agreement, you could get a refund. Otherwise its a 'fixed when its fixed' deal. 3) Support, if you have a problem you will have to ring the consumer support line. Imagine calling the Virgin/BT/Sky consumer line when your connection goes down. I am not entirely sure that a company will install a home connection to a school these days?
