It was just a url that was unknown to us. Therefore we had no idea what was at the other end. Hence the non clicking. Anyway, I am perfectly happy following the guidance from the ICO [emoji3]

So you get an unsolicited email from an unfamiliar noreply@ address asking you to click a link? We spend a long time educating staff and pupils not to follow these kind of links in emails. Would you follow the link? I wouldn’t, especially after the ICO has told you not to [emoji6] I would rather discuss the issue with the requester by contacting them either at a valid, monitored email address or over phone but the requester is not willing to do this, hasn’t provided valid contact details and hasn’t submitted a valid request. The request is dead easy to fix and I’m surprised that given the strength of the requesters feelings on this matter, it hasn’t been done.

Individuals making FOI requests can state a “preference” for the format of the data but organisations are not legally obliged to follow that preference under any circumstance. Visiting an unknown website to submit data can be considered a security risk (confirmed by ICO). I am sure that schools would happily discuss an alternative format if the requester was willing to enter into discussion (which this requester was not). FOI requests must follow a set procedure to be valid. This one did not (as confirmed by the ICO). If the requester was willing to resubmit the request in a valid fashion then I am sure that schools would respond (the requester appears unwilling to do this). Yes the public have a right to information from public bodies and those must follow the rules, however the requesters must also follow the rules too

Yeah we go to town too: MyEd App/SMS to all parents and staff, email, website, twitter and every social media thing we use, phone message, local radio etc... However, on Friday we still had a few staff and pupils turn up!

I used to love our old style Maplins. It was tiny, cramped, jammed to the rafters with just about every electronic component you could think of and staffed by very knowledgeable people who could help with just about anything. Then they moved to a massive store in a nearby retail park and became like any other electronic store staffed by people who couldn't help with anything more complicated than finding something on a shelf.

VPN. The only way staff can access files remotely is via an encrypted school laptop over a secure connection.

Used to be with RM and connection was stable and had no complaints really. However, we did move to Wave9 and have been really impressed. The installation was the most stress free I have experienced. Support is great and very responsive. Can't recommend them highly enough.

yeah shouldn’t post before my brain wakes up However configuring wpad is easy solves the problem. At school the client finds the wpad.dat and uses it, at home it doesn’t and goes direct.

If you have the “auto detect settings” box ticked in internet settings, then they’ll pick up the pac in school and go direct at home.
