As always, its about risk. Having a child's name on a piece of work in school (barring certain circumstances) is going to be fine. What's the risk and what's the potential outcome? I can't see much risk or harm there. If you have a looked after child on the other hand, who perhaps is in potential danger, there is a risk. Its possible that some might see the name and pass on that a child by that name is in your school. It might get back to the wrong person etc. Something I am trying to drill into people here is that its risk, risk, risk!

@Manny-Tech sorry, I missed this :S Yes I've taken a look at the logs. The UpdatesDeployment log shows that the machine is identifying that it needs the AV updates and downloading them but when it comes to installing it, it says No current service window available to run updates assignment with time required = 1 UpdatesDeploymentAgent So it thinks that it can't install the updates. Do you use maintenance windows at all?

If you are licensed for it. Depends what 365 set up you have. Office will continue with both the 365 and volume versions for at least the next version of office and I don't think there's an indication yet of that changing?

And to make sure, the software update group that contains the definition updates is targeted at the collection containing the clients?

How do you buy office presently? Perpetual or via OVS-ES?

The licences are upgrades so yes you still need a licence on the machine. It used to be in MS documentation that we had to use Edu and Ent was prohibited but that seemed to disappear at some point.

What update sources do you have set in client settings?

Well a student could do anything with their own data couldnt they? So a student taking a book and losing wouldn’t fall back on the school? I get the impression that this isn’t what was in mind for GDPR though. Surely it’s about making sure that the data is handled properly (not leaving named books on the bus) rather than coming up with elaborate systems to anonymise everything. I have read about schools insisting that only initials are used on books. There is a school down the road that is seriously looking into using QR codes on books so teachers have to scan to see who’s book it is! That just seems a crazy interpretation of the rules.

I do understand what you are saying, however, aren't you going to end up in a position of either having multiple versions of LTSC deployed across your site or being forced to upgrade every few years anyway but in an unplanned way (ie when you find that new hardware isn't working on your current version).

But then you can't buy new (officially supported) hardware until the next LTSC is released right? Not being awkward, genuinely interested in this, but that would seem like a problem to me. Again not being awkward but that's great as long as it does work. I am still wondering what happens if you buy new hardware and LTSC won't work on it? Will you then revert to Edu/Ent/Pro or something?

Education. MS keep prodding us away from using LTSC. The fact that each release will only support silicon available at the time negates one of the strongest reasons to use it, so buying machines in the future will mean having to upgrade your version of LTSC anyway. If no new version has been released then you will have to deploy a different channel anyway. Office ProPlus will not be supported on LTSC from 2020. I can see more restrictions being put on LTSC as MS are pushing it to only be installed in a minority of cases.
