Which ISP do you have? Would be worth getting them to monitor traffic for a while and pick up on the proxy sites being used.

Top 'o' the morning to you, to be as stereotypical as can be :/ But seriously, welcome and anyone who posts to say thank you gets a thumbs up from me

If I can't see fully then my car doesn't move. What's a few minutes for safety? Silly drivers :/

Old kit to hand to show the insides of a hard drive for example, always facinates them

Surely if it was going to last 7 times longer it would have to be thinner? *note to self read other posts*

Depends what you do? Are you a bit of everything person like most of us are, if so, give them a little bit of information on it all. Website / Server / Cabling / Clients / etc etc (obviously brief and not too complicated detail) Also explain how you go about talking to be people to find out what are the causes of problems with computers - Who, what, when, where, why and how. How you ask these questions of the teachers so that you can gain the most amount of information. You could kind of make it a bit detective'y and perhaps let them try with a crib sheet or something.

Depends on what you can do? You can't just charge a fortune if you are learning on the job yourself, a little unfair for the customer. As it is your first proper job (not for mates - "that'll do") I would give them a lower price. You may get subsequent business from it. Also don't forget to sort it out Tax wise!

That'd be ok, don't mind putting myself up if needs be. Would be great CPD to spend a few days there and pimp some Open Source tech.

The security model for VLEs / governors using VLE
apoth0r replied to theriver's topic in Virtual Learning Platforms
Aren't all governors subject to a confidentiality agreement anyway? Why would you keep things hidden from staff governors who are bound by the same terms as say another non-staff governor? The practice doesn't sound right, although I agree on the use of a Learning Platform for use by the governors, brings centralisation and a lot less faff then is currently happening in many schools. -
Are you in need of a 'Moodle Man' ? As it's my main job I'd be more comfortable talking about that then anything else. Just an idea

FartDroid. You don't need anything else.

The F(ear) Factor is one of their favourite shows me thinks. I have turned a few teachers round with regard to it. It's a lot handier if you have the time for training and talking to them though. The majority of my job involves communicating with teachers so becomes handy when you are more 'friends' with them then just saying "we're doing this now....". Would like things to move quicker but alas, walking pace is better than standing still.

Does the telephone system fall under your remit?

Yep, we look after the voIP stuff -
Cool beans, glad it is working out well! I'm a big fan of Moodle, it's just the battle with the teachers fear now. Slowly getting them onboard, slowly as predicted moodle.unity.northants.sch.uk

I have a BFG, they are the dogs, no doubt! Bought one for about £200 a year and a half ago, still able to run any new games at full detail, high res. Drop down the market a bit on graphics, no need to buy the top one because you'll only see it drop drastically in price in a month or two. Mid price change by a few quid.
