    iPad in schools

I'd just fear for the life of them, they are the latest tool to have. Kids will realise this and they fit nicely into bags, if they are also so inclined you may find a smashed screen every other day. We buy hundreds of PC's a year to replace the damaged / vandalised kit in our school. Yes the technology is fantastic and would be brilliant in an ideal world, but in reality can schools afford such a costly venture. By no means writing them off but they are expensive and will they be used for the right purpose? I doubt it, let our teachers have a break and get used to current technology for just a while
  2. biggest = the best these days?
  3. If it is part of your job to write a report on the job, then it is done there and then. I'd rather make sure I have my reports done on site so it is fresh and accurate rather than "doing it later" and forgetting the details I need in order to have a successful knowledgebase for that establishment. I always ensure I speak to the appropriate people each visit so I'm known to be there - Office Staff / Bursar > Headteacher > Staff with the problem. Common courtesy to introduce yourself each time. It's a people problem not a technological one
  4. Thanks for posting this, will have a play now
  5. That's insane, surprised people didnt do more to slow the lorry down
  6. Impero Inventory was quite good when I used it. Impero - Can't remember if it was a cost project or a freebie, worth giving them a buzz.
  7. Had exactly the same thing here, for my domain. A load of poop and I sent an email back saying I would sue if they attempted any fraudulent activity, as they are responsible for them. They soon stopped mailing
  8. Congratulations matey, hope it all works out great for you. Have a great weekend!
  9. There is always a way, perhaps have a look online
  10. Many Thanks Vicki Received yesterday Check PM's
  11. Apple security updates
  12. Tried 4.0.4? (looks like an error lol)
  13. What version are you sporting? Are you running on windows/linux/mac?
  14. Perhaps take a look at this thread which may be a similar problem. how to use file:// safari patch? Possibly a patch needed to view local files. Haven't used the browser so I am unsure.
  15. Which software has your D&T faculty chosen to provide for the following; Textiles Resistant Materials Electonics Food Technology I'm in need of something so we at least have something for the D&T department in regard to the VLE. Just wondering which software you guys have used (or loaded) in the past so I can get an idea of what is popular / good when I speak to the department about it next week. Many thanks in advance.
  16. Hey mate, Although a pretty awful piece of software aesthetically, Number Shark was the software of choice a couple of years ago for Math related SEN ICT provision. I had a group in the suite working on the time specific section and it was quite successful, the repetition aided retention. If I'm honest I can't think of any other software titles that I have used. Sherston always seem to put in a good showing for SEN though.
  17. I'll answer to remove the irony
  18. Foot in the door prices as Bossman suggested. Everybody does what they need to
  19. Fuels the fire? I offer a value for money service, it's not done on the cheap, but it makes people realise they don't need to tie into corporate contracts that take away the quality provision i provide. I taught ICT to every class in a primary school for two years, who from a corporate IT background has that to share? I know what works in the classroom, i know how to get the best from the equipment available. Doesn't mean there shouldn't be more provision for use or have the quality of equipment they deserve. Making do, will not do, and that can be backed up by most of the governing bodies that deal with ICT in schools.
  20. Which is possibly why schools should have a trial of a company before committing. I always offer trials because then they know what they are getting, if they are happy I'm happy. If they aren't then well they need to find someone or a company that will provide what they need. Too many schools rush in when in fact each school is different and will need something different to effectively provide the service they need.
  21. What's edugeek for HighTower? 4th Line
  22. Thanks Witch, I'm old school because I came from a in-house tech role back in the day so I charge a little bit more than in-house to cover petrol. Remember most do it as a part time venture, so it's extra cash not a fortune builder.
  23. It's not in relation to the budgets of primary schools. Schools shouldn't be spending more on support than they do for equipment, they don't move forward. Secondary schools have set the standards for education in their costings, primaries suffer because of it.
  24. Hmm, well let's just say you could get 5 hours out of me and change for that money per week. Unsure of the guys business model but what exactly does he do for that money and 3 hours a week? 1 Form I'm presuming you have quite a low student population, 80-100?
  25. Music on demand, free and unlimited music without download Decent alternative to Spotify, no invites or registration neeeded
