  1. Have these comments been made to someone in the LA, I know it's possibly too late for you guys but warning to other LA's may mean that others don't suffer the same fate? Northamptonshire went with LP+ for its solution and although quite a fair few opted out due to current resources in place, it has worked to an extent for schools without the facilities. There seems to be very few 'timeout' problems with LP+ and to be honest, that is what you would expect from the huge amounts they charge (whether it is via grants or top slicing budgets). I feel sorry that you have been forced into a decision without been given a proper trial, which we were lucky enough to have before the charges came in (I believe it was possibly a year!?!). I do hope you are given the resource you deserve and I'm sure there are plenty of open source solutions out there that you can run in house if it really really isn't what you are after. *cough*moodle is your friend*cough*
  2. *Flexes some muscles* and then deflates. So want to hit that kind of money lol
  3. I shall be booking the time off so I would be more than happy to come and help. Must be CPD but im not pushing it
  4. Can't remember exactly coz it's been a while since I've done anything there but make sure you have your mail settings correct in the global configuration menu
  5. Or just be happy with a free SSD and be grateful? LoL
  6. Haha, He sounds like a money grabbing billionaire grasping at straws. "Move on"
  7. Old Republic looks awesome, keep getting excited with each community update!
  8. I have to agree, yeah it is a bit of a nightmare at first because everything seems to be in the most random of places. You have to have a play though, it's the only real way to learn. Stick it in another folder, install and off you go. Simply turn it off when you have finished playing and its not visible! The web really does have the answers to any questions, you begin to get used to certain features and can start moving forward (love google). If you see anything though, don't hesitate to pop it on this thread, may be helpful for people another time.
  9. Well I have it now, and I have to say i'm finding it tricky to use first off due to the immense amount of stuff it does! Chuffed that its a phone i can sink my teeth into. Android is awesome and I'm one happy bunny. I don't want an iPhone! (before u start) Gonna enjoy this phone immensely over the next month and I shall give you a proper review soon. Well done HTC, another great phone and well done Google for making me smile with your l33t skillz Thumbs up :D:D
  10. I couldn't wait any longer and went for the Android powered HTC Tattoo! It should be there when I get home! Happy Days
  11. When criticism is constructive it is very important to allow such, but your post offers nothing to users of this forum. You are clearly just promoting another sponsor of the forum on a topic designed to hurt a business rival. If you can't pick up the phone to speak to Simon or another chap there then what is the whole point of you criticising them? Emails disappear, messages don't work, people can't wait around for messages all day. Use common sense.
  12. He responds quickly because I phone him and speak to him? He then sorts what I need and sends me anything further by email unless he's feeling particularly fruity and wants a chat. Yes Simon does chat! That's why I RING him.
  13. Well to be honest I never rely on email alone, if i hear nothing I have a phone, I shall use it. If i'm contacting someone then I want a reply, if they haven't received it I'll use another method of communication until I get through. I don't believe that sending an email, receiving no reply and having a moan is the way to gauge a company. If you don't get a reply go find another company if you feel that way inclined, but don't just slate someone for not contacting you when you haven't really tried. This thread is a bit of a joke and I don't like how people keep adding to it randomly and bringing up old news. If you order something and it doesnt come, then fair enough, reason for complaint, but no one has any obligation to contact you. You want something, give them a ring for goodness sake.
  14. Hi Guys, Over the next few weeks I am compiling documentation for our College Moodle, what I am wondering is if people have any documentation regarding the creation of courses, general user documentation, administrative documentation or anything related. Obviously it will all be kept under the strictest of confidence, I am just enquiring about how people have gone about it. What level you write your documentation for and the wording. I hope to publish what I have done to this very forum over the coming weeks/months as an example as I'm sure many people are fed up with re-writing the wheel and I'd like to contribute something back to the cause. So if you guys have anything related to the above and would be willing to share your own work, I would be exceedingly grateful. If you could email me [email protected] with anything you have or think might help. **NOTE** This isn't at all related to my business - this is for my fulltime position at Unity College. Many Thanks in advance Stephen Pothecary
  15. Just checked and they can be written on, well worth getting in some supplies for cleaning them, although they 'dry wipe' it could use a bit of whiteboard cleaner to make it that much cleaner. They stain after a while, which does make them look a bit awful
  16. Well we have CleverBoards which can be written on although I believe you can use drywipe pens on the Prometheans. It's the SmartBoards that you can't as they are touch rather than pen interactivity.
  17. I don't knock the decision in Northamptonshire, it gave everyone a better service and the problems EMBC had a year or two previous was a disaster area. These appear to have been resolved now, I'd rather have something that works than something new that could work.
  18. On a side note Tony, did you check you Ning mail? Cheers chap
  19. Ahh if it's Google, go for it They have far too much money anyway
  20. On a similar note, Northamptonshire schools had their Harnessing Technology fund used for the cost of EMBC county wide, although some people may say its not great for independance to quality of service has improved no end because not only are you having a county wide support service but the money is paid by the county so they have a level of involvement too. What are the main reasons you want to move away from SIMS and would it be cost effective in doing so if you have already paid? Have you tried other systems to see if it is any better? Unfortunately no MIS system is perfect and usually the one you have is the best because people have already trained to use it.
  21. I must chip in and say more often than not, it's the quality of work and the time put into a VLE that is what makes it good. If people don't want to know then it's not going to develop and provide the resources the school needs. Most of them do the same sort of things, its just about applying yourself and 'selling' the idea and pushing teachers into using it. Once they are onboard and realise the potential time saving and quality and consistancy of lessons they will often take it upon themselves to delve deeper. I use Moodle at our school and LP+ at another, they both have benefits over the other but at the end of the day, one person can't make a VLE it is a collaborative effort.
  22. Write to the people who wrote the cheque as a common courtesy. You don't want to annoy the people/person if they haven't funds available.
  23. Not very good etiquette bringing up a post from the dark to promote ur own business? 6 Posts too? I think you need to read the rules, and because of that ur on my blacklist. Good work xx Post was deleted, I wasn't just randomly ranting
  24. I wouldn't take em either mate
