I found the best way to deal with this is to find out the departments that are actually wanting to use the VLE and give (buy) them more of the SCORM packages etc that are out there. Once other faculties see the resources they have they will want to put their departmental cash into it in order to not fall behind. Has worked a treat here. Then you can chase up the others and help them along a bit more, once the teachers are hooked its easier for the enthusiasm to pass down to the kids, regardless of interactive content. Sometimes kids do have to just read without scoring a goal in a Flash game

Has he thought about doing the CompTIA A+ ? This is a pretty good starting certificate of competence. It is quite generic and covers a lot of the stuff he would cover in employment. A lot of companies ask for at least this qualification, it's not too expensive either. Good luck to your friend

Content Generator allows you to create quizzes for the kids and then lets them play some game when they answer the quiestions right. At least then the games are on task and you have control on what is being learnt/tested. We use it on our VLE, it's had a good response from teachers.

I would look into immediate baseline needs, as your two techs go, something like the COMPTIA A+ would be a good starting point. You wouldn't need to spend a fortune on it. Theres a huge amount of information on the compTIA website so go take a look chap. From there you could look at Cisco/Microsoft certs, theres lots of information if you google it. Personally I train with Advent, which has advantages, at a price. CompTIA A+ > MCP > MCSE is the route I have almost finished paying for but no where near completing
