  1. What phone have you got, creese?? If it's LG, i can help, but HTC.....No experience with that, I'm afraid!
  2. Can I suggest a little light reading on this forum? Android Forums & Windows Phone Discussion @ xda-developers This seems to be where most of the big developing is going on. Who knows? You may find a stable build there for your phone! (That sentence is aimed at no-one....and everyone!!)
  3. I would disagree with that statement, Los. The Gingerbread source has been released to developers. The only reason that "Official" ROMs take so long is because of the branding and the bloatware that goes on each build. This is the TRUE reason for the delays. The code IS out there, and from day 1 there have been developers working on it. Yes, you run the risk of bricking your phone.....but that's why I came into IT, was to learn how to do stuff like this! Had you seen the panic in my eyes, when I almost bricked my phone, you would ask if it's worth it.....When you see a stable build running on your phone....you know it IS worth it!!!
  4. I DON'T have to enter proxy settings! I can, now, if I want to....but there is no NEED to!
  5. Yep..... This 2.3 build is on the back of Cyano 7.... I would ask you ALL to check forums etc before you come out firing I'm happy that MY 540 has a STABLE build on it.....This was worked on by a Hungarian developer.....who now has many fans, for his work!
  6. Nope....and even when I first bought the phone, on 1.6, I could still get onto the network, and out to the web....Not a problem. This is down to the use of Port 80, which I assume is blocked at YOUR schools/colleges? I'm guessing your proxies are running through 8080? If so, then there is your answer!
  7. Hi Si.... You can go to the second batch of links, and find it all there. Sorry, but was under the impression you had a 540 too. This is the great thing about Android. Because it is open source, the 2.3 code has been released, so anyone can have a crack at it. Would that we could, I'd happily show you my working, and stable, 2.3 install. Also, just because you haven't seen it, doesn't mean it's not out there.....
  8. Ahhhhh...wait a minute..... I think I know why.... The college firewall is not blocking port 80...therefore, I/we can get on without a problem. That'll be it, I reckon!
  9. I have the LG GT540.... And proxy has held no fears for me....at all! In fact, I have put a HTC's Wildfire, Legend and Desire as well as a Motorola Defy on the network (for different people), and there's never been a prob. I think there's probably a setting that they are not letting you have
  10. Whaaaa-aaaat? Why can you not connect? Is it because you have a proxy server? We have a proxy, here, and it's never been a problem for my phone, even before 2.2/2.3 and their proxy setting choice!
  11. Oh.... 2.3 has natural Apps2SD too, so no more faffing about.....Oh and wi-fi hotspot and tethering too! Very nice build!
  12. 2.3 based on CM7 aka swiftdroid project - Android @ MoDaCo LG GT540 - SwiftDroid Project - (O.S. 2.3.2), by Mur4ik - xda-developers These will give you all the info..... Good luck, Si!
  13. It's a Cyanogenmod7 and Gingerbread Rom....Works perfectly, so far, Si.... Give me 5 mins and I'll pop a link in for you! This'll take you straight to the 2.3 download. It will come up as 1.3, but that is the version number. If you need any help, at all, just give me a shout....or a PM, as I doubt your voice will reach this far!! *LINK REMOVED....Citing 404 error*
  14. I've gone down the same route, to be honest! When I bought my LG, I had flashed a new ROM (1.6 -> 2.1) within 3 weeks! I thought that that would be it.....! A Cyanogenmod for 2.2 was released, and I thought long and hard. But, decided that I'd bide my time and see whether LG would release 2.2 as an Official ROM. No dice.... BUT, I keep an eye on the forums, and 2.2 was running well. People were raving over it! So, 2 weeks ago, I took the bull by the horns, sat down, and installed 2.2. WOW! What an improvement! But, WAIT.....what's this? 2.3 has been ported? And it'll soon be released? Well, as soon as that puppy hit the street, I was straight in there! Within 2 weeks of putting 2.2 on, I was upgrading! 2.3, with an over-clocked CPU runs beautifully! Thankfully, there are no new releases scheduled, so I can sit back and enjoy my 2.3 build LG GT540!!!
  15. " Hey computer.....that Chess game we started last night? Have you moved your queen, whilst I was asleep? I do hope I'm not going to have to tell you off for cheating. Now...Put it back, or I'll flash your ROM!"
