  1. Take the black pudding away, substitute for a larger portion of mushrooms and beans, and I'd take that bad boy on!!! Question is.............. How many cups of tea do I get with it? Tea would be the essential accompaniment!
  2. Possibly might seem a bit wrong to ask the Missus for a couple of shots of that though!!!
  3. I think that you're taking my posts too literally, as seems to be the problem throughout this thread. Yes, I drive as close to the speed limit as conditions allow. 20 years+ without an accident means I must be doing something right. However, I have also taken note of my sat-nav (which is a FAR MORE accurate speedo than is on any car) so I know pretty much what speed I'm doing, at any point in my journey. If the traffic flow IS 85mph, then I would be looking to be doing at least 75mph, as I would think that doing 20% UNDER the traffic flow speed would be dangerous. In your example, I should be doing, perhaps, 65 in a 70mph. That equates to almost 20% lower than 85mph. Now, that above point illustrates how taking one point literally can make my argument look correct, and yours wrong.....However, transpose that to 35mph, and 28mph, and there is not much difference. I still believe that if you have seen or been affected by a crash/accident, at speed, your views will be coloured by that. You will continue to fight your corner, but with emotions rather than common sense. (That is probably a sweeping generalisation, and is not meant to offend. Apologies if it does, as that is NOT my intention)
  4. I'm hoping that the first hour will be enough! I shall be laying in bed, listening on TMS!!!
  5. Firstly, thank you, but i AM pretty amazing (IMHO!!) Did you know that your speedo can be out by around 10%? Therefore, if you are driving at 34mph (by your speedo, you may only be doing 30/31mph. A quick flash will encourage a driver to check this out, and perhaps to slow down. I still would not feel the slightest bit "involved" if this led to a driver, two weeks later, being involved in an accident.
  6. Can you judge an oncoming vehicles speed? That would be pretty amazing, as you'd have to take your own speed into account + the closing speed then subtract one from the other to get your best estimate of the speed. Therefore, what's wrong with a quick flash? As it is, I agree with one part of your statement.....If I saw a camera, and then saw a car which I believed was excessively speeding....then I'd let him/her go....They can take the pain of the fine/points....Serves them right. However, if I can judge that someone is doing, maybe, 35 in a 30, then I would warn them. Now, the second part....If I had flashed a driver, and 2 weeks later he was involved in a serious accident....well....I cannot see where the fault is? I would feel no different to all the other accidents that happen. Sad that it has happened, but thankful that I, nor any of my family, were involved. (I believe that this part is a spurious argument, by the way. It has nothing to do with the main point.)
  7. I think it's quite a humorous joke by the normally PITA Mr Kermode.
  8. I'm hoping that someone else has had this problem..... We are starting to push out these phones, and have had our first WBL person in, to ask for their email to be set up. Despite putting ALL the correct settings in, there are no emails coming down to the phone. The phone starts to synch, but nothing happens..... Any ideas? As the great god Google doesn't seem to know anything!
  9. Congratulations!!! (Get in quick with a QPR one....he/she will thank you for it, in the future! PMSL!!!!)
  10. Or..... You could call them back and say you don't want it. They re-advertise it..... I see it (Being in East Anglia, myself) I apply..... But, I DON'T get offered it!!!!! LOL!!!! I think that if you have a wife/partner/family/kids/etc then you would be best off discussing it with them. At least you'd be making a decision based on what is right for you ALL.
  11. Depends on how much I like my current job, tbh. Ok, so......... 1) It's a year-long contract with a possible permanent at the end.....that means that it's probably gonna go permanent, but there's an opt-out for either side after a year............. I'd say go for it! 2) Pretty safe at the mo, which IS rare.............. I'd say stay where you are if job security is that important (i.e. family, bills etc etc) 3) Different job to what you currently do.........I'd say go for it! Never pass up the chance to learn new stuff! 4) May be a chance of a pay-rise..............May is a pretty BIG word in that sentence. If you're looking for more money (and that is why you went to the interview in the first place) I'd say go for it! In short...... If I was in that position............ I would TAKE THE JOB! What is there to lose??? (That is only MY opinion, and all opinions shared should be taken with a healthy pinch of salt!!!)
  12. Can I put you in the "against" camp, then, j17 ?? LOL!!!
  13. I rather think that it is a way of warning people that there is a speed check area.....What they chose to do with that info is up to them. Besides, who's to say that I haven't just flashed that car because I thought it was a friend of mine, and I was just doing the "hello, mate" flash? I repeat, we can all make the examples fit "OUR" ideas, and all make our arguments sound correct. I think that I shall spend the next few minutes conducting a straw poll, on who agrees and who disagrees, by way of their posts....and come back with the difinitive Edugeek answer!!! *EDIT* Well, having looked through the 3 pages, I can state that in my opinion, of the way that people have typed, we have a 7-3 in favour of the "criminal". I have only taken those who have come out directly, in one way or the other, and have left those whose posts are neither one or the other! :D:D:bored:
  14. As I suggested earlier, we could ALL make a scenario that fits in with our argument. In your case, the driver who was flashed, slowed, and then sped up again. Who's to say that had he continued at 40, got done in the speed trap, he wouldn't have accelerated away in anger? He may still have been doing 40+, further down the road. Now, on my way to work, I regularly pass a speed check area. These are members of the community who have been given a speed gun, by the Police, to do their work for them. Many's the time that I have been flashed by drivers coming the other way. This is despite the fact that I KNOW that it is there, and am actually driving along at about 28mph (by my speedo!), therefore, the flash is totally inconsequential to me. But, the other driver could STILL be done for it???? Ridiculous!
  15. I'm pretty sure that we could all find an example to make us appear right, in this argument. However, the reality is that the CPS seems to have wanted to make an example of this man, for whatever reason, thus spending almost a day in court, for a "crime" that most people would believe is ridiculous. Had this gone to Trial By Jury, I have no doubts that he would have been criminal record-free. A jury of 12 peers would not have allowed the conviction to stand. But, hey-ho, that is just my opinion!
  16. I could give you negative rep, for that statement, but as it's your own views and opinions, I'd much rather just discuss it! That is an incredibly silly statement to make....There is NO law, as far as I can find, that says you must not flash other cars. Would you flash a car to warn them of anything else? Perhaps an accident, just round the corner, or a fallen tree on the road? The Police have over-reacted to this....especially if the quote "I was going to let you off with a caution - but I’m not now" is true. Sorry, but that gives the Police a bad name.
  17. Where, exactly, is the public interest in this case? So, he flashed a few cars to warn them of a speed trap, and that is classed as "perverting the course of justice"? The Police must have soooo little to do, in this country.
  18. Personally, I just can't seem to drum up any enthusiasm, today! Didn't sleep well last night as the 6 year old son decided that he wanted to sleep between me and the OH......Then proceeded to knee me in the back at regular intervals. Had to almost crowbar myself out of bed!! Now, I am rebuilding our inventory system.....a job guaranteed to send me off to sleep, if I'm not careful!!!!!
  19. Check your domain controller. If this is out by more than 5 minutes, you won't be able to log on.....This is the exact trouble that we ran into this morning!
  20. This may, or may not, be the first post to say this, but as I'm off home in 20 mins, I thought I would take the time to wish ALL of you, on here, a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Though we may not all share the same views and opinions, this promotes healthy debate, and someone whose ideas you are vehemently opposed to, will take the time to post the solution to your problems. I hope that you all get what you want, or deserve, in the New Year, and that you all find joy and happiness through every part of your life. Congratulations to all on making this a wonderful site to be part of, and contribute to. Best wishes to you all, Mango
  21. That's how life should be.....
  22. Excellent news!!! I'm sure I shall be making use of that function, over the coming 10-12 days! Merry Christmas all, and hope you get your box sorted v soon, Elsie!
  23. Hmmmmm...Don't know about that! Only had my Sky+HD box for a week or so.....
  24. How long have you had the box? If under a year, call Sky out!!! Also, do you have other things recording in the background, as (here comes the teach your granny to suck eggs moment!!!) if you're recording one side, you can only record/watch one other side. You cannot record two programmes and watch a third channel. (Again, apologies if you know that already )
