The tax system explained using a beer analogy:-
aerospacemango replied to laserblazer's topic in General Chat
I disagree (unless I'm reading your reply wrong) but I think this is a right-wing argument for less taxation of the rich. This is the most telling part of the whole thing...... Rich people upping sticks and sliding off to somewhere else so they pay LESS tax! During the 70's, when the Labour Government had an income tax rate of 99p for the VERY highest earners, they all bu**ered off abroad, and could only come back for 90 days in any tax year. That is obviously wrong.....No-one should pay 99p in the £ tax, but the highest earners SHOULD be paying more tax. (Spuff....If I have mis-read your reply, then I apologise. If not, then I look forward to the discussion!!!) -
[video] and the award for best faint goes to......
aerospacemango replied to MK-2's topic in Jokes/Interweb Things
But that won't happen, whilst sooo many people keep tuning in. How else are ITV to entertain the "masses"? With original drama? Not got enough cash and/or advertising revenue for it.... With original comedy? Ditto...... Sport? You're catering for only a select band of people (Admittedly, I AM in that band!) -

*WARNING***** Personal Opinion Alert****** Warning* I find it hard to believe that so many people watch this tripe! This type of programming seems to appeal to the lowest common denominator. Utter, utter b*lls!!! Qualifying statement By saying "LCD", this is not to imply that ALL viewers of this tripe are in that category. Some of my friends, who I count as intelligent people, watch this too! -
That's the kind of thing that I'd spend £400 on! Looks good, and could be an Apple squasher?????

Elite..... Some 20+ years ago, I spent an awful long time working my way up from Mostly Harmless, to that point where you become Elite. A finer game, I am yet to see. Graphically, it wasn't brilliant, but it still had that certain something that would grab you and keep your interest. Syphon Filter, on the PS, was a demo on a mag....Took one look at it, played the demo all night, then went straight out and bought the full game in the morning....Only time I've ever done that!

[android] Budget Android phone review on The Reg
aerospacemango replied to Gibbo's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
Bizarrely, the GT540 get's a poor review (No.5) with a lot of mis-leading points. Hmmm...I find my screen to be very responsive, and a double tap, for magnifying is the most I have to do! I certainly DON'T have to "bend it to my will". Doesn't run particularly slowly, imho, so that's a bit fatuous! As for the price being £170.....hmmm...I'd suggest they did a bit more research! Ok, so maybe I'm a little protective of my phone, but this review is terrible! -

Has anyone got ereaders at their school

aerospacemango replied to Millsy79's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
I think the one under Bruce Willis / Best Wishes is............. Paul Hewson......A.K.A Bono (You can deffo see the Paul bit, then the "H", so I'm guessing that as he usually signs as BONO, he'd be out of practice at signing his own name?) *The one across the middle and the one right at the top are giving me trouble though..... First one looks like an "E", so probably Evonne Goolagong (70's tennis player, who became Evonne Cawley) Still waiting to see how many I've got right!!!! PMSL!!! -

aerospacemango replied to Millsy79's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
Ooooookayyyyy!!! Starting from the left hand side.... Ruthie Henshall( West End Star), above that, Derek Randall (Cricketer-Ex), at the bottom, Josie Long (Comedian), bottom right is PZ Myers (Biology Professor) Top right, under the xx is Bruce Willis (although this could easily be Best Wishes) How many did I get right????? -
Of course there is! Or maybe I've not been doing it long enough to have got all cynical!!! Yes, there are times when I want to lose it too, but to be honest....this is SOOOOO much better than my previous career, that I don't mind the numpties too much! (I've dealt with a whole lot worse in my time!!)

Sorry if this'll sound harsh, but it's not meant to..... Surely there's an element of "fore-warned is fore-armed" about this? Are you certain that it was meant in the way you tell it? Staff are always going to do the stuff that you mention...Last friday, I had a similar experience, but you just gotta take the rough with the smooth. Because they EXPECT it all to work, all the time, they don't plan ahead for every eventuality. This happens all the time, and as much as it gets on our collective nerves, I think that the memory that it IS Friday, should be enough to put a smile on anyones face! I hope your day gets better (as it surely will!) and you enjoy the weekend, stress-free!

Have you been watching "Thunderball"? One of 007's finest outings, and I'd agree that Domino was pretty good....but, "brilliant"....Hmmm...perhaps I need to re-watch it to see what the fuss is about!!!

I thought you meant "The LAST Domino" by Genesis, off the seminal 80's album, Invisible Touch.... I was gonna compliment you on your taste!

Samsung Galaxy Tab, Dell Streak, or iPad?
aerospacemango replied to localzuk's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
Ok....here's some thoughts on this........ 1. Depends on whether you like Apple and their gear. I'm not a fan, but looking at it dispassionately, I'd say that as current market leader, it would be hard to turn down. 2. This has taken a bit of a kicking, allegedly, on some review sites. If I were given one, then I'd probably be quite happy, but would I buy one? Unlikely! 3. Hmmmmmm....Tricky one, this! The Dell ships with 1.6, I believe, but has been updated recently to 2.1. The rumour is that it will be getting a Froyo update before long, though it's looking like an unofficial ROM will break surface first. StreakDroid FroYo v1.2.0 - Announcement Thread - Android @ MoDaCo Overall, and I can't believe I'm gonna say this.....It's either the iPad, or wait until someone comes out with a decent Droid tablet. -
[website] Anyone got £25,000 to spare?
aerospacemango replied to Dos_Box's topic in Jokes/Interweb Things
Indeed he did... YouTube - James May's Top Toys here is the link to THAT programme, though I haven't checked whether you see the guys face, at the auction!!! -
Against my wishes, it was decided that the tutors could have a grace period as "local admin" so that they could install their printers, etc etc, at home. Then, once that time period was over, they'd all lose it. I've lost count of the number of teachers who look at you, with an almost childlike grin, when you find something on their laptop.... "Oh, but I didn't put it on there!" "Well, who did then, Einstein?" And as for the woman who has "broken" 3 laptops in the last 6 months......I cannot understand how she keeps getting them.....Perhaps I should ask my boss!!!!!
-
Just so you know....When I bought my Droid phone, it was on a 1.6 build..... At the beginning of Oct, a Baltic version of 2.1 was released, and I flash my phone.....A week or so ago, the official CPW ROM was released, so I have re-flashed to ensure that I have the most appropriate ROM on my phone.....Easy as 1,2,3! Oh, and once you do that, you can root the phone, AND put apps2sd on it, which was only a feature on 2.2 (Froyo). Hope this answers a question!
-
Oh, and don't get me started on the number of Torrent streams, Limewire-type, Age of Empires & Champ Manager installations I have found! I had a tutor come in today to ask if he could put his own picture as a background..... "No....It's a corporate idntity logo....You cannot have a different picture" "But, Whhhyyyyy?" (In a very whiny voice) "Because the laptop is NOT YOURS!" I think I need a lie down in a darkened room!!!!

At my college, we gave ALL tutors a laptop 15 months ago. They all had to do a 2 hour class on how to use them, and the "what to do/what not to do" stuff, and then were released into the wilds of suffolk. All has been well, until some tutors began to leave, and others joined. Now we have tutors coming in saying things like........ "My laptop battery doesn't hold it's power, and as soon as I unplug it from the socket, it dies....Not much of a mobile computer is it?" "Do you keep it plugged in ALL the time?" "Oh, yes! Otherwise the battery would run down" I then explain about battery degradation, and how, if their HoD would like, they can stump up the £70 for a new battery.....That tends to send them off! The other thing is the sudden destruction of laptops from the new staff dropping them, and smashing the screens. This has happened twice in the last couple of days. My view is.....you break it, you pay! (Not quite my bosses view though!!!)
