The primary school purchased some laptops way back from Stone and got the option to downgrade from vista to XP. The vista sticker is OEM but if I run a key finder app on the downgraded laptops they all have the same key, this to me indicates they have been re-imaged using a non OEM licence, perhaps a volume key. Recently the school purchased some Windows 7 upgrade licences, I took a test laptop and ran the 7 update and these old laptops seem to be running fine so I want to update all the other laptops. Obviously I do not want to do each one individually so can I install the Windows 7 update then image and deploy, seeing as the XP OS looks like it is not an OEM licence and the Windows 7 update licence I have been given is the same licence number for all upgrades. Note: The school does not have any type of ESS agreement directly with MS etc but buy all the Windows software from the local authority who I believe do. They once sent me a MAK key for one of our orders along with the product key. Cheers

How many of you disable UAC?
edutech4schools replied to edutech4schools's topic in Windows Server 2008 R2
Thanks. Bit of a mixed bag so far. If enabled how do you stop UAC popping up and asking for standard things like adding a printer or updating java. -
I look after a few primary schools and a few years back I disabled UAC using Group Policies as I was getting fed up of users always asking me to type my password in so they could run stuff. Is this the norm or am I on my own in disabling UAC? Should I enable it? and if so how do you cut down on the message boxes that get presented to the user. I have also noticed that on my new Windows 8 laptop you need UAC enabled to use the app store.

You can disable ads for the domain in the control panel. Plus, I think due to some law in US about scanning educational material if you are on the edu services this does not happen although I could be totally wrong about that.

Windows 8 not showing in wsus on a 2008r2 server

yep, added 8 and 8.1 to wsus and then did a sync. -
Just playing with our first windows 8 laptop and got everything working apart from wsus updates. The school is on server 2008r2 and wsus is on v3 sp2 but nothing shows in the wsus computers panel although the windows 8 has stopped trying to get its updates from MS as the wsus gpo must have applied. any ideas.

Does saying 'OK Google' do anything on everyone elses N5 as mine does nothing. Thought it was meant to open Google now. Also needed to call T-Mobile as I have the large Sim card and the N5 takes the micro card.

I went in to the phone shop to have a look at the lg g2 which is meant to be a similar build to the coming Nexus 5. I must say the LG G2 phone is one fantastic looking phone, I actually prefered it to all the Samsung ones in the shop although you do have to get over the buttons being placed on the back of the phone, which is a silly place to put them. EDITED from original post The main differences between the Nexus5 and the G2 (leaked specs) is the N5 has a slightly smaller screen, lower spec camera and smaller battery. My issue now is that I prefered the size of the G2 screen and the camera quality was blinking awesome and something I would want. Not sure I can justify the difference in price but would really like the LG phone. What do I do. EDIT: http://www.techradar.com/reviews/phones/mobile-phones/lg-g2-1171025/review

I noticed the other day that I got an option in the admin panel to reveal a users password but the next day it had gone. Might be something google are going to add but pulled for some reason. This would be very handy.
