I know you are trying to avoid writing reports via SIMS and you will have your reasons, but we use SIMS profiles and this works without issue for us - it saves the job of someone having to manually enter the student details or student comments into a third party system if that is what you are trying to do. Profiles takes a bit of tweaking to get setup, but once its life it works perfectly or near enough without any major issues for us over the last 3 or 4 years.

We use Sharepoint. Depending on the associated groups of the user, they see various elements to their homepage. Staff / Student announcements etc.

Surprisingly we appear to be missing the snow, this time around.

I don't see why not. A standard Windows 2003 / 2008 and Microsoft SQL Server box will take the Discover DB without an issue. I am creating a VM of our SIMS server over half term and our Discover DB resides on the same server so I can let you know for definite if you can wait a week or so.

Locking down iPad settings - am I missing something?
Sylv3r replied to nutso's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
An interesting way to do it, up to now we've had no issues but will give this a go as and when the need arises. -
It depends on where the external unit could be located and how close. For a similar size room (our server room) I paid somewhere around the £1.5k region - all depends with the make and manufacturer of the unit. We've had cheap units before that weren't up to the job so go with a well known brand - we use Hitachi throughout.

We don't use it anymore but have used Spiceworks before on a CC4 network without any problems.

Ours is set to 21 and we get an alert once it hits 27

I bought Ignition for about £20 about 6 months ago and it's well worth the money. I also have purchased a pro account for my forest server, perfect for getting files from home to / from the servers. -
We use one of these with e-mailed alerts when it hits certain thresholds. The Climate

Accessing documents could be via the Dropbox app. A terminal server or VNC app may also be suitable to access various bits of software / documents etc on your network.

I used it a couple of times in my previous car - 2.5l Focus ST500. And I did notice the engine was a lot quieter and the drive did seem a lot smoother, not sure if was woth the extra few quid though as didn't benefit from better MPG.

This is one we used to be on - never had many proxy issues since we moved to Smoothwall though although the odd one or two did creep in but not for a while. http://www.peacefire.org/circumventor/

I'm heading off to the West coast of the USA at half term so won't be at the conference this year - will be the first once i've missed in about 4 or 5 years.

We get around 40 or 50 tickets per week. We have around 1,400 client devices and 1,500 end users. Staff use our helpdesk pretty well, but touch wood we have little technical problems.

Moving to copiers for printing. Anyone using PaperCut MF?
Sylv3r replied to Gonk's topic in Green Computing
We use PCounter here effectively for our accounting needs on our copiers. Also allows you to delete duplicate jobs + a lot more. -
We've used SLG for 2 or 3 years now and find it perfect for our needs. Staff access to SIMS profiles etc via the web, parent access to student data and student taking ownership of their own behaviour, tracking information too. Through the use of Sharepoint we've also been able to use this as our 'intranet' internally provided both staff and students quick links to resources and shared documents. It's been a lot of sweat and tears getting it to where it is, but we like it. Just moved to Sharepoint 2010 during the holidays so will investigate webapps etc into the future once I get the chance. Other products such as TASC do an equally good job for the fraction of the price, although for what we paid for SLG I can't grumble for it internally hosted by us too. The LA offered their hosted solution of SLG and I am glad we didn't touch it!

We've got 7 or 8 of that model or similar around the school and haven't had no issues in the 12 - 18 months we've used them.
