We use hosted SLG and unfortunately we have had parents reporting the same issue. Additionally we have had complaints that Firefox is saying that the certificate isn't secure. I just installed the latest Firefox on my PC and I seem to be getting the same thing. Is this a known issue with hosted SLG?

Thanks for the feedback on this! I do like the interface on the learnpad and it would be a shame to have to write it off because of the hardware. I'll see about getting the Toshiba hardware if we go ahead with anything.

Actually we just received a LearnPad on trial (I think it is a v2, I'm not sure) and the wireless performance is pretty bad on our Ruckus system. Were you able to find an answer, TechSupp?

I don't think I had to do anything with Google Wallet. I just signed in to my Google account when I first set up the thing and now when I go to buy something from the Play store, there is an option to pay with "Google Play balance" which had the £15 in it.

Just wondering, is the parent view block being updated to work with Moodle 2? Right now that is about the only thing keeping us from upgrading our setup

I think FOG automatically takes the system partition in to account. It may need the Host OS section to be set to Windows 7 before you upload the image, but all of my Windows 7 images are set to Single Partition and I've had no trouble deploying them. It's preferable to use Single Partition where possible because FOG can automatically resize the partition for you.

It's not a bad idea to prod people to upgrade, I'm not sure that this is the best way of doing it though. More important than website compatibility is computer security - your antivirus software (or more likely Windows Security Centre) flashes up that you're open to invading nasties when your definitions are out of date, maybe the same should happen for your browser. Alternatively there's the Google Chrome route - stealth updates

I don't see it as a vanity issue for us. We use a .org address simply because using the .sch.uk and by extension the email addresses given to schools in our area is absurdly long and cumbersome, and the longer an address is the more chance of people making typing errors. As an example, email addresses look like [email protected] k. Yes, some schools actually have a 30+ character domain! So for us, changing was a no-brainer. edit: Oops, didn't realise this thread was a month old. Apparently I'm still living in April.

Well.. I think I've solved the problem. It was quick, easy, and didn't involve any "accidents". I root...sorry, "jailbroke" the ******* thing. It was quite good timing in a way because the jailbreak tool for iPad 2s only came out last week. Once done I just installed SBSettings and Activator. I used SBSettings to hide everything undesirable (including SBSettings itself), and set Activator to set a button combination that would launch SBSettings so that I can get back in if needed.

Do you try to make sure that students don't find out that passcode then, Pyroman? Because as far as I can see, once somebody knows a passcode there is nothing to stop them changing it to something else.

Hi, We're looking at introducing iPads for student use, but as far as I can see there is no way of blocking access to settings. I'm aware of the Restrictions menu and the iPhone configuration utility but these don't cover some of the important things. The first/biggest problem is the passcode issue - either we set a password which then has to be entered every time before a student can use it, or we don't set one at all which then allows a student to come along and set one. Then the iPad requires a trip to my office to restore the backup. The other problem is that even with restrictions set and regardless of whether or not a passcode is set, students can still go in and set airplane mode, change international settings, and just generally bugger things up for the next person who comes along. Am I missing something or are you all constantly restoring backups of your iPads? How do you manage them in your school?

I'm no expert so I don't think I'll be able to help I'm afraid. I'm not familiar with the M2 cohorts setup either but I'm just thinking that wouldn't it be easier to run with the year group option and forget about key stage? The reason being it might make things easier when it comes to the end of the year process. With key stage, you'd have to move those going up a stage out of their current group and in to the next group up. With year group wouldn't it just be a case of renaming the group to change the number as the membership will stay the same? Plus it can't be that much more effort to add a few year groups to a course instead of one year group, and would give more flexibility. Unless I'm misunderstanding completely which is entirely possible.

That's great news that it is being updated! Can I ask is this just for Facility to Moodle, or is the Parent View block going to get the Moodle 2 treatment too?
