If you are happy doing it you can save a lot of money going with freepbx - the system I put in saved 15k against the cost of a paid version. Both will work but as you say requires modification but then with bog standard audio cards that's required in the case of ASIO4All etc. It is a case of the modifications/hacks being slightly different. @superatticman I wouldn't even try and bother (depending on what hardware/software they are using though) if its just something like sequel or Audacity then you probably could get it working well. As I stated VDI has its place and Music labs are not one!!

I haven't read the full thread, but the thing about audio recording not working is false. I have 4 or 5 clients (businesses) who use digital dictation via a combination of USB redirected devices and also traditional jack plugs. This works with Audacity too although for major requirements (i.e cubase etc) you don't want to be using VDI. VDI has its place where it suits but as highlighted here its not always the case in all parts of a school, the majority would probably not notice the difference (i.e Admin staff etc) whereas as you say students who need to use videos would.

Salesforce can be brilliant... but it requires a hell of a lot of work to get it into a nice shape to do what you want!! I for one have just dumped it!!

With the mandatory profiles did you redirect users to the app data from the old roaming profile or recreate from fresh the first time?

so when you type %appdata% you get the server share yes? Have you got sp1 for office installed.

The data for signatures should be stored here - %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Signatures Open that on the affected users machine and ensure a. there is something in it and b. that you can write data to it Also double check the path is the redirected folder share not local C:\users\username\appdata\roaming it should be \\server\share\user\appdata\roaming or similar.

What devices are they that have the missing DNS entries? Printers/Windows Machines/Tablets etc?

I have a client who does process modelling via VDI and also one that has a Photoshop installl. Can't say they really notice a difference on the local lan. Via 3G data connection yes I am in the middle of 5 different VDI rollouts of varying sizes and specing the quoting on the third (to eventually be 1000 users).

This is only half correct - you only have to buy the MF version if you want to embed the software onto the MFP's. If you want to use them as traditional printers then the NG version which isn't expensive will suffice. Papercut is a very good solution

Hyper-V doesn't have that greater guest os support. The modern OS are ok support wise but lots of people have legacy servers which they support. I have lots of clients who still run NT4 servers etc as the cost of upgrading some of these apps is far to much or the company has gone bust etc @SimpleSi - you won't get support in Hyper-V for your Win 98 machines, ESXI will happily take it

You want to check that is doesn't cause to many vibrations which could affect the devices within the server room.
