I would use ESXI which is free for the basic version - You can then auto start VM's from it too I think (but you might need vcenter). ESXI runs on the bare metal so would replace the server 2008 machine

There is lots of open source products that will do the reverse proxying you require - squid etc

Take a look at Open-E and custom build you SAN for Storage (you will get a lot more TB for you £). You can then divvy it up and also have an NFS/SMB share the machines can directly connect to.

Get a laptop with USB 3.0 and get yourself one of these - Targus USB 3.0 Dual Video Docking Station–ACP70EUZ|Targus Europe Supports dual screen of both dual external or external and internal. The beauty of these is one USB connection to the laptop and you have all you devices connected (it auto installs its drivers too)

If you want a software built solution look at VDI Blaster - is designed for this use and is super lightweight and centrally managed (from a free appliance)

I have literally just signed up for a Personal Lease. There are pros and con's to it for me its a positive as i would change a car every few years anyway as I'm a bit of a ponce so actually not having to put a huge lump sum down first is a good thing and the monthly payments when I looked where only around £5/10 more than I would have been paying on a car loan to own the car to then sell in a few years time. the only negatives to it are if you plan on buying a car and keeping it for the real long term. Erm yes - although I have just realised i could simply do - taskkill process.exe then do what i want to do anyway as it doesn't make a difference if the process is killed before what i need to do!

Does anybody have a script which checks if a process is running and does an output depending on that? I.e - is xx.exe running - no do this yes do that? I know how to do it for If Exist etc but is it possible? If *something* process.exe goto ABC else goto EFG any ideas?

No just 1 copy of Exchange standard should do you - although how many mailboxes do you have? I would run them has an HA pair if you have the capacity with DAG groups.

How every many exchange server licenses you would like. Core Cal Suite should include Exchange CAL EDIT: Core cal suite allows use of Exchange Standard - which should do everything you require.

As above all depends on what equipment you want to run - Ideally you want a minimum of 16 amp commando sockets I would say. Spec out your requirements of servers against a UPS manufacture and see what the Input is - I would recommend the Borri units over the APC ones if I am honest, had to many "Just die" Ideally as well depending on Size you want the UPS to feed a fuse box on the wall which also supplies the AC. So that when the batteries are running for the servers to shutdown you can power the AC.

Yes the Unit has the ability to display a splash screen but they are hosted in the Meraki Cloud hence the reason why its displaying your smoothwall page because it is trying to access the internet. Toby

Ah missed you are using PCOIP - my client uses the RDP function for Audio Recording. @synaesthesia you would be surprised that CS5 can work flawlessly in VDI enviroments provided the performance tweaks for graphics are followed.

I have a client who does audio recording through VMware VDI without a problem. In regards to Video performance there is a lot of tweaks to get this running smoothly if it is not for your. The only time I have really had a problem is on a 300ms latency connetion in Oman to Servers in London.

Depends on what switches you have and also gbics there are multiple types which are compatible with the HP switches. The HP E2610's you can set the speed at which the GBIC's run (to 100mb if required) I think it might just be you can only set the duplex mode.

I would try setting both switches to 100mb Full duplex and see if that makes a difference.

I would have said it is most likely the data is being send down the same cable as each other. use a phone and point it at the cable and see which side the beeam is coming from then compare this to the beam which is coming from the gbic? I.e Nortel is sending data down a to a on the HP but the HP is trying to send data down a whereas it should be sending it down B. Its just a case of swapping over which way around the cables are in the pair (normallly quite easy depending on patch lead and style).

That seems to be the mis-conception - if you lose your internet connection you don't lose functionality of the system. You can configure what the device does if it cannot talk to the controller, either reject new connections etc.
