Just been to look at a site for a client and got a couple of questions around this and want to try and avoid talking to Virgin Media directly if I don't have to They have the package mentioned above, From paperwork they have they get 10MB cable line for £40pm. Does anybody know the contention ratio's of Virgins business cable lines? Does it mean they will get steady 10mb or is it like ADSL? I've never used a cable line so not really sure and the Virgin website is next to useless!

If had my old one crash a couple of times randomly. I guess you have already tried the basic power cycle. On the management card there is a rom stick which requires flashing if the management as borked itself, although it should have 2 images on itself to roll back if the first is unusable.

Take one module out at a time and try turning it on. If its not one of the main modules it could half borked the management card

not a clue i have had nothing to do with the exchange 2010 upgrade. the old server 3 was removed not all that long ago (def not 4 years) as they had this strange problem that when they turned it off outlook stopped which was the why outlook was configured.

I built 90% of it! Erm no they have moved to Exchange 2010 since then but it is not 100% setup from what i understand. I had this previously with the users and the local PRF file - the prf file referenced an older server (server 3 as mentioned above) and this was replaced on all XP built machines with the one mentioned (18). Although this was replaced with the Office customization tool setup on all Windows 7 machines (whole school was wiped at once). And everybody's outlook re setup. From What I understand of the 2010 setup - there are 2 cas servers but they are not load balanced - clients access from and individual servername instead of say outlook.localdomain.local which resolved to either of the cas servers.

A PRF was used in the days before Windows 7 and new profiles (18 months ago) (I'm only saying that as he probably wouldn't know as i replaced it 18 months ago).

Which one does it connect to? 3 or 18? And from what I understand of your CAS setup its slightly wrong anyway so that won't help. If it is 18 then the install of office defaults to connect to the it using the MS Office customization tool

Sounds like you want more of an VDI based solution then a RDP solution.

Take a look at Igel thin clients. They are fairly good and easily managed.

Thought about that but don't really like the idea of keeping all the data on the SAN if i am honest - plus to many connections to keep it all on one host.

Or if you have a desktop already connected to your projector you could try Air Server

That is true, but there is lots of people here who work in industry. If I am honest i would rather use open source virtulisation than Hyper-v something like cloud stack etc

Scenario (not education) 1000 users 6-7+TB of storage requirement - 99.9% uptime loads to be balanced My current thoughts would be to have probably 3/4 servers (in my clusters I always work off the same theory as Raid 5, i.e 3 to accommodation for 1 failure) with data replicated between the three or 4 using DFS (ideally in two seperate physical locations). Ideally I don't want to be using a SAN for the data. My problem is then how to load balance between the 3 or 4 hosts. I know DFS does a limited amount of load balancing but it doesn't take into account current load on each host. I've done some googling around but cannot seem to find any sort of answers to a proper load balancing solution for file servers, web, exchange etc is all fine! Another idea I have had is to use the 4th server (lesser specced and sata drives) as a copy only and then back this up, i.e backups can be run throughout the day without the users noticing. Ideas?

Also take a look at VMware Storeage VMotion - slightly different ways around doing it but the same. Live migration without a SAN. Hyper-V is still a much inferior product than VMware, but if you don't require the extra features that VMware has then Hyper-V is a very good alternative product.

Only in education, private vmware is still king as hyper-v still isn't all that cheap.

I think vm tools is in the repository is it not?

Not sure if it is nativly possible within Hyper-V but it does sound like that Veeam is for.

In my opinion data is not safe unless it is stored in at least 3 places. Personally I recommend to any of my clients, 1. Onsite Backup to NAS Devices (usually using Veeam) 2. Replication of Server/Servers offsite to DR location 3. Backup to cloud for critical data. A new product I have been working with is Datto backup, backs up locally to the device and then backs up to the cloud.

It was, and having used it at home for years without fault I couldn't see a reason not to, The management console is a lot easier to control than others.

I have a Samsung 830 256GB, can't fault it.
