  1. Yeah, you'll need to USB-serial. I have a couple of boards this will affect, but I may be able to shuffle USB Smartboards into their place instead and solve the issue. I'll give the Activboards their due - they're durable!
  2. I bought one recently, as a department asked for one. They then asked for more, and as we’re still on Profile Manager (most of our iPads are ancient) I recommended Chromebooks instead. I have some work to do preparing our Workspace for them, but they should do much of what the iPad would but at lower cost and with easier management. Of course, if a specific set of apps and a committed push to iOS as a platform is needed, they can work well. Depends on scale, costs and need.
  3. Can you get into the Server app okay?
  4. Done during a summer holiday, and will probably be the same this year. I'm doing the laptops now though, as they're a right swine to get round.
  5. You can do it with WSUS, if so inclined. You can use SCCM, or you can go round each one and upgrade them manually. I did 1703 to 1903 almost entirely with WSUS. Got a batch of laptops that seem to be sticking on the 20H2 upgrade so I’ll just rebuild these.
  6. I've used a logon script which removes Office 2016 and install 2019 in its place - the installer was built with the ODT. \\server\share\Office2019\setup.exe /configure \\server\share\Office2019\config.xml
  7. Yes, we have this requirement. I’ve just ordered some laptops for the cover staff that will work with our docks. They’ll be given the laptop guide, then I will be mysteriously unavailable for the rest of the day. Seriously, supporting some staff would be a full time job if I let it be. Log in, plug in the USB-C, go! Not a chance.
  8. This pretty much stops us from going to A3. We have lots of stuff on older licenses, and nothing AAD joined.
  9. Agreed. Get her to fire up Team Fortress 2 on it - I bet it'll glitch then!
  10. We have a captive portal for this job. Users need to register with us first and we can add them to the account list. It’s not amazing - it only intercepts http so if you try to fire up Google as the first page it fails! You have to know of a site still on http only and ask them to use that [emoji38]
  11. I initiate mine with a batch file. Took me a good while to get the source file sorted - I persisted with that rather than the CDN so I could roll out in big numbers without hitting the WAN. Due to the way it updates, I may not push it to student PCs at all in the end.
  12. https://welsheduit.wordpress.com/2020/10/08/office-2019-scripted-installation-ready-for-mdt/
  13. But can you afford not to get one? I mean - the reviewer is a networking expert so subjective improvements in sound quality (on a device that moves packets of digital data with parity bits, checksums etc) must have occurred! I'd love to actually get some of these reviewers to do double-blind testing with £3 to £3000 cables. If they're more than 50% in line with price I'd eat my...ultrasonic diamond floor standing speaker pointed stands.
  14. I've seen it happen on 20H2. When building machines missing some drivers, I had to put them on a separate wifi SSID to connect to WUO, then sometimes switching them back would stick.
  15. That's correct, but I believe it changed with 1909(?) I use e.g for OfficeHub: Get-appxpackage -allusers *officehub* | Remove-AppxPackage Get-appxpackage *Microsoft.MicrosoftOfficeHub* | Remove-AppxPackage -allusers Get-appxprovisionedpackage -online | where-object {$_.packagename -like '*Microsoft.MicrosoftOfficeHub*'} | remove-appxprovisionedpackage -online Belt and braces, but this works when run as a startup script. The reason for the first two being different is one may throw an error, and the other may then work. The third entry removes for all future users on that machine. Repeat this for every app you want removed. You'll need the app names.
  16. With the newer versions, I've gone away from custom WIMs and just remove the apps I don't want with Powershell scripts. It's perhaps not quite as clean, but it's a lot simpler!
  17. Had the same on two Surface Pro 2s. Just in Teams. They’re now retired, gladly!
  18. An Angela Rippon fan then?
  19. They’ll almost certainly use a generic panel which you can match by part number on Amazon. Never failed doing it that way.
  20. I’ve recently added a bunch of Android tablets to our G Suite/Workspace (which is tied in as an Azure app so auth is through M365) which gives a pretty decent level of control. Users sign into them with their domain credentials, I can then control apps, remote wiping etc It’s free, after all, though takes a while to set up.
  21. Yeah C15, a C13 designed for the stupid amounts of heat some electronics kick out. All of our switches have them, when you open the cab you remember why!
  22. The old adage usually applies both for AD and SOLUS is the same - check for DNS issues! Time sync problems can also crop up, but DNS problems tend to make SOLUS bomb out.
  23. That seems pretty mega for a server room. How big is the room? I had ours in the server room replaced in 2019 after it expired. Wall mounted with condenser outside, can’t remember which brand we had put it. Was less than £2k. The room is about 3m x 6m and 3m high.
  24. Can you test the board on a bench, outside of the case? It’s most likely to be a motherboard issue (or PSU but that seems less likely here) as you’d tend to get beeps if it was CPU or RAM.
  25. We switched to it as soon as it was out of beta. I didn’t deploy Chrome so we were in need of something more robust by then! It’s been the default since, and I have no complaints about it. I use it and Firefox on my machines.
