Started to snow again in Worcester. Not heavy but settling on the drive I spent a couple of hours clearing yesterday.

@glennda Where in Sussex are you? It's been snowing for about 2 hours without any signs of stopping.. Main road is clear outside my place but the side road isn't!

Haywards heath - i couldn't tell you if its been going for about 2 hours as I've only been awake for 40 mins!

Snowing here too in the Valley of High Wycombe, on Friday drove 80 odd miles to Essex quicker than the 18 miles home.

I hear cars passing my house this morning with engine revs way up but apparently making very slow progress [i can hear but not see traffic passing behind the house] Based on that it is very slippery outside today.

Snowing again in Leicester. Light at the moment but adding to what we already had and heavy snow predicted this aft.

 

Stepped out the house last night to see a van pirouetting past the drive, the helpless drive gave me a shrug and a little wave. I waved back. It was a beautiful moment.

Looks like someone dropped a bag of icing sugar on the top of a car here. That's about it. Up on the hills, they've got a proper amount but down here by the channel, its no go for snow.

People are phoning our snowline to see if school will be open tomorrow! probably staff.

We've had about an inch down this morning, but the snow is now incredibly tiny flakes and the temperature is just above freezing, so we have a slight thaw. I can't see schools being closed in the Tonbridge area tomorrow.

Been snowing constantly from when I woke at 7am in Ashford, Kent. There was a a decent amount when I woke up so could have been snowing longer. Hopefully school is open tomorrow for staff and the new server gets delivered! would be good if it did and the kids werent in so that I can do some jobs and not have to go in during the holidays!!

Been snowing here Birmingham\Solihull last few hours but only light flakes side roads still look a bit dodgy but main roads pretty clear and traffic seems to be flowing ok. Edited January 20, 2013 by Steven_Cleaver

Its still snowing down here. Still doesn't look like its gonna let up.. At least it gives me chance to sort out the bedroom for our little girl that is due in March...

What reasons will a school close if no snow falls overnight?

 

Ok there is snow on the ground but provided the roads are clear are their other reasons schools can choose to close?

I have just heard that we are starting lessons late tomorrow: Period 1 is cancelled to allow staff and students extra time to get on site in the morning.

We had a phone call on Friday afternoon (yes, they phoned us... unprompted) informing us that the exams office had the use of a 4x4 to make sure that the invigilators could get to school and our son's AS exam would definitely take place, no matter what. I guess we've had a couple of inches so far and it's still snowing. However, while getting to the end of our road is dodgy the main roads are all open and running smoothly.

 

If the worst comes to the worst he'll have to hike, but I am expecting to be able to get the car out tomorrow.

@rad One of my schools has separate year blocks and the playground that the children have to cross can become thick sheet ice if there is any dampness in this sort of weather. Not easy to sort quickly as it is a large expanse. We are on an exposed hill and often everything refreezes

Come to think of it the steep North-facing hill between our buildings turns into the Cresta Run when its icy. Our caretaker has his work cut out to ensure that people don't need crampons to get down to the other buildings safely.

Shame, my missis works in a Solihull school but its not closed (one of the private schools)..."Laughs incessantly"....Bet you im still off to work! :/

My Missis isn't impressed that I am off and she has to go in that will teach her working in retail they never close .

 

All staff that want to do any work are working remotely including me save me tracking into work just adjusted our Gateway to allocate more resources for Staff and Students.

Oh dear, just got a text to say we're closed tomorrow - just don't know what I'm going to do with myself all day....

 

Wife is not happy and has spent the last five minutes punching me in the arm and swearing.
