denon101 Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 I tend to think of it this way ... Me > God > Everyone else ... Somehow I don't think many people believe it though. Ha Ha very good!!
rh91uk Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 E-learning Systems Manager (strategy, etc) -> E-learning Team Leader -> Technicians
BKGarry Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 (edited) Head > Deputy Head (Learning & Teaching) > SIMS and Timetable manager soon to renamed Technical Logistics Leader (me) & Assistant Head (ICT Curriculum) - Yes we are joint) > ICT Managed Service Provider Means every decision goes to me and the Assistant Head and then we Direct the Manager Service Provider like the old ICT Systems Manager did before BSF Edit -> Curricular ICT is separate to technical ICT directions, and has been for years, means one department does not get preferential treatment Edited December 6, 2011 by BKGarry
witch Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 From a performance management perspective it is: Head> Deputy Head> Senior Tech but from a 'boss' perspective it is: Head>Head of ICT> Senior Tech
fathead Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 For me it's Head > Tech > Head of ICT (LOL) and for performance management it's Head > Tech. From reading the thread I guess the structure really depends on the size and speciality of the school? (I am figthing for more support (i.e another technician) and the NM title in a +600 pupil, 297 client middle school but then again I do have an NM interview on Thursday as I've given up trying!)
Marshall_IT Posted December 7, 2011 Author Posted December 7, 2011 So should i be worried if its looking like the NM position is going to disappear into the ether???
Griff Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Head > Assesment Manager > ICT Co-Ordinator > NM + Technician Would prefer it to be structure differently ICT Co-ordinator for curriculum side is great but it can take some effort to get any infastructure decisions because we have no direct line to SLT as IT meetings were cancelled indefinitely a while ago..
mb2k01 Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 So should i be worried if its looking like the NM position is going to disappear into the ether??? If you are one of the technicians then yes.... Unless they are going to regrade you all and fairly redistrubute the roles of the NM around, with appropriate pay adjustments? I would assume your contracts currently read along the lines of 'support the network manager' on several points. If there isn't one to assist, it will lead to an imbalance. When I was first starting out, this was the main discussion point for me moving up to Assistant NM and then NM. It's fairly easy for the powers that be to understand - you can't assist / follow the direction of someone who doesn't exist.. and they can't expect you to assume that level of additional responsibility without adjustment.
liamvaughan Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 Head > Business Manager / Head of ICT (Depends who wants to be our boss at the time) > Senior Tech > ICT Tech When our NM left he never got replaced
IanT Posted December 29, 2011 Posted December 29, 2011 Most school I've worked in was like this: Head > Business Manager > Network Manager > Senior ICT Technician > ICT Tech > Junior ICT Tech
crutchfieldj Posted February 8, 2012 Posted February 8, 2012 We have two consulting network managers and two techs, one of which (me) is a university placement student.
jayemm Posted March 3, 2012 Posted March 3, 2012 Head -> Me (ICT Manager) -> 3 techs I also line managed 2 LRC and 2 reprographics staff
Steven_Cleaver Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 Head-->Head of ICT-->ICT Admin Manager(Me)--> Assist Network Manager --> Web Development Manager I also as of recently (this week) Manage MIS (MIS Officer and Exams Officer)
jamesbrown Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 Head Teacher > Asst Head (also head of IT) > Network Manager > IT Technician
localzuk Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 Chief Exec -> Head Teacher (x3) -> Director of ICT -> Me (Network Manager) -> Technician (day to day, line manager is DoICT).
hit Posted March 4, 2012 Posted March 4, 2012 Mine is very much like @localzuk... Strategic Head -> 5 x Heads -> NM (me) -> Techs (and for the moment 3rd party support provision) I report directly to the Strategic Head but am left to my own devices most of the time to report to individual Heads if I think that it's something that is not part of the big picture. I am also part of the strategic IT steering panel which is mostly made up of the ICT leads from each of my schools.

Indeed, I don't report everything directly to my line manager - much of what I do goes via the business manager, or directly to the Chief Exec or the heads of each school. Its a complex structure, as each school within the group is basically a customer of our services. We don't have a steering panel though, as it was a BSF managed contract until recently, so I'm still setting up policy etc...
silver_uk Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Sorry for the delay, yes we do have a NM its me, I also cover technician jobs, photo copying, telephone enginner, CCTV security and tea lady haha
teejay Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 HT - Assistant HT - ICT Manager - Assistant Network Manager - Senior Technician - Technician
GeekyPete Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Head > member of SLT (Bursar usually) > NM > techs Thankfully practically no schools put the tech support with the ICT dept now. Like Sci and DT techs are part of curriculum areas. This must be avoided at all costs. The NM should sit on the SLT or the extended SLT (with dept heads) so that he (she) can get a strategic overview for the whole school
featured_spectre Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Current place is as follows IT Director > Network Manager > IT Assistant > Junior IT Assistant I am the IT Assistant role however that depends on the NM if I go up the chain to be Deputy NM and we get another IT Assistant (as it is a big job for us to cover everything)
F3000 Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Head > member of SLT (Bursar usually) > NM > techsl That is what its like in my place now. It used to be the 'Strategic Leader of ICT' instead of the Business Manager, but when they retired they were not replaced and the BM took the role.
robjduk Posted February 11, 2014 Posted February 11, 2014 Head > Assistant head > Me (Network manager).... saying that, nowadays the assistant head has little to do with me and I report directly to the head. I get the impression if I ever left they would get someone on a higher scale to report directly to the head.
Sheridan Posted February 13, 2014 Posted February 13, 2014 We're HT > BM > NM > Senior Tech > Tech > Apprentice Thats the offical path, athough the Head of IT (curriculum) has a big say in what's going on with ICT.
beancole Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 So you don't have any techs under the NM? Ha I don't Head > NM >Imaginary Technicians> Imaginary Apprentice
