In all the schools I have worked in, the DRP (Disaster Recovery Plan) has been the most important thing that's always been missing or extremely sketchy.

Yeah I definitely would. It immediately makes the school aware that you know something about safeguarding in the school environment!

I agree with @nephilim. I would also include something about a CRB check - i.e that there (hopefully) would be no issues! If the school is going to get some free work you then I would expect them to pay for this (think it costs around £40) but do bare in mind these can take up to 6 weeks to come back.

For me it's Head > Tech > Head of ICT (LOL) and for performance management it's Head > Tech. From reading the thread I guess the structure really depends on the size and speciality of the school? (I am figthing for more support (i.e another technician) and the NM title in a +600 pupil, 297 client middle school but then again I do have an NM interview on Thursday as I've given up trying!)

Our contact at Uniservity said that everything will be transferred ok in one form or another apart from content in the Wiki and Quiz functions.

This is not what I was told!!! I was told the content would move over into a "cell" and that it was only the front end design of each page that may change? Still a lot of work to do but some of our departments have the whole curriculum up on there, not having content migrated is definitely not an option!

We are an existing Uniservity customer for the last couple of years I believe, as I only started work here in September. We caught up with Uniservity at BETT this year and it all went from there really. You really should get in contact with however your person is at Uniservity and maybe give them a piece of your mind!

If you are an existing Uniservity customer your contact/account manager at Uniservity should have provided you with or at least offered a "sandpit" login to the new Life VLE. The new VLE is extremely "FROGIFIED" but of what I have seen and used in the demo site I have been very impressed. From what I have been told, Life's full release and availability is from September whether you are an old or new customer. Where I work, we are delaying our migration until a date that is most suitable for us i.e not September!!! Depending on how far advanced your schools usage of a VLE, I think the timing of the migration is very important. As an NM, I will be working over the Christmas holidays so I think this might be the best time to migrate. Plenty of time to play with it and then when all the teachers come back, roll out the new training and inevitable barrage of questions. Hopefully I will have been given plenty of bottles of whiskey at Christmas to ease the headaches after!

Hi there. How are you authenticating on to the wireless network? I had this problem at my new school. The summer before I started they had a third party come in and install an expensive Aerohive System and they left the pieces behind them! Half of the laptops in school would log on locally (so no network drives would map) and then a few minutes later would decide to authenticate. It was causing that much of a headache (all the time, everyday!) I disabled the enterprise login through RADIUS and just setup a Pre-Shared Key login on the wireless network and distributed it to members of staff. Not an ideal solution but I will look at it again in the summer and try to see what was going wrong. Network is vanilla 2k3.

I won't even ask what for! lol. Once they hit £300 I may indulge for me personally, basic iPad has just hit £319.67 inc vat on ebuyer!
