If it helps, your 3cx ringing issue is almost definitely firewall ports not open, or maybe SIP ALG enabled on your router. If you manage to get everything sorted on that side of things, you should have a good experience on 3cx

My friend who was considering the sub-group approach I think said it would be 4 Senior Technicians with each of his primaries split between them (so Tec 1 would have 4 primaries etc) Some of his secondaries would have a mix of local and 'core' staff as each would have their own network manager. If you meant my team then the way our Trust has grown organically is that each secondary has their internally staffed / located IT teams, but 9 primaries share 1 IT Manager and 2 Technicians between them - with an arrangement of "at least" one visit per week, but remote support alongside. No dedicated or named individuals per school etc.

That was pretty much my argument to them (and the reason I've kept mine the way it has been) He was talking about less central ticket analysis / prioritisation / assignment by having a designated lead of a sub-group of schools, which in truth I can see helping compared to my set up, but whether it's more efficient I guess remains to be seen!

Hi All, I had an interesting chat with a friend and ex-colleague of mine over the weekend who has a similar(ish) position to me back up north. They are being tasked with proposing a structure to support IT across academies in their MAT. We had different views slightly, and while each MAT will have it's unique set of circumstances meaning no structure is necessarily right or wrong, it made me wonder what others think. Based on a theoretical mix of 14 primaries and 5 secondaries, how would YOU structure your IT support service / team? As a starter... I've got slightly less schools but have largely adopted / tweaked over time a solution where we have secondaries with internal teams, and primaries supported from a core team who are nomadic and provide support based on a 'minimum' on site visit arrangement... but other than that, go where a need arises / support flexibly remotely were possible. My colleague however, preferred the concept of splitting up their 14 primaries and having each senior tech in their central team allocated 3-4 of them each. Interested to hear what others think / do!

I reached out to them, with them coming back and saying that there was "an issue downloading templates, but that documents will be published as soon as they are available" but was also sent Privacy Notice - model school and college testing v1.0.docx I would assume being that it says V1 in the title, and wasn't included in the original blurb, means it has an update by now. At least a useful starting point though if you want to adapt?

Is this re-deploying after re-imaging? I'd be interested in a link to info on that one... my guys have been told it isn't possible / permitted by the helpdesk address!

Ha! Meldrew, long time no talk! The ones that turned up to you via that method are the ones that Cornwall LA were in direct communication with schools about. They are the ones that have been awarded for children with social care in years 1-10, but excluding Year 10 disadvantaged for which the school or Trust needed to work direct with the DfE for.

I've not been able to get the actual specific make / model etc, but I have managed to confirm that these are the general minimum specifications of the device types: (Posting with permission from the DFEPCS Team)

Misquoted in terms of referencing schools ordering, apologies. I was coming from the Trust perspective - i.e. it says we've been sent information on how to order a device, and as far as I or anyone else I've asked knows, we haven't!

I have used the CodeTwo product to do exactly this - in fact, I've used it today to rescan and do an up to date sync of some too! Like you I looked at the built in options and was left unimpressed for various reasons. I opted to give CodeTwo a go largely as it was quite modestly priced and also had a trial period where I could prove it worked etc. Other than the CodeTwo product I've technically used Veeam to do similar before too - backup a mailbox from one tenant and the do a re-directed restore to a mailbox in a different tenant. That was quite useful as I could push the content in to a subfolder rather than have everything appear in the main inbox

Have you managed to get it to send a nicely formatted version of the contents of the form? All I've been able to get is a line of each one of the results making it look a bit CSVish!

If I've read that right, then the SDL is smart concurrent licensing? e.g. you could install on 500 PC's so that it was 'available' but you'd only have 200 users at any one time able to use?

Was about to query the same, as it looks similar to what I'd expect named user licensing to be.

Wow, that is a lot more than I'd envisioned! The scenario I'm thinking of is for Trust central staff rather than deployment in schools (although it it was affordable and reliable then it might have been a consideration), as they would potentially be split between two different offices and also occasionally on school sites. My thinking was that their comms could/would essentially follow them around. However, if that price point doesn't come down it might not be something that moves forward!

Does no one use it? (I like the idea of being a trailblazer, but have to admit I was hoping someone else had gone through the pain / had a nice set of handy hints!)
