About F3000

  1. We currently have a PC in every classroom and the only Staff Laptops we have are a handful of very old ones which we haven't physically seen in 5 years, so I would be surprised if they still work (considering they are not in the School!). I have over the last few months been debating suggesting moving the opposite way and issuing staff with laptops and removing desktops. There are various pros and cons (most of which I have read from various threads on here), but at the moment we are sticking with desktops due to both cost and the extra management we get with them. Also about half our Staff have got iPads in the past year (who would have guessed) and I really don't think they need two portable devices (especially considering how little the iPads are actually in School).
  2. We are just coming to the end of our first proper test using this and found that we had to start each Pupil off one at a time, anymore and they would keep failing. This was probally due to using wireless laptops (I know! the exam officer insisted). It continues to work fine after doing that.
  3. Thanks for the replies. Storage is something we will need to consider but at first we are looking at just trying it in a couple of areas to see how it goes and if it works we can see about expanding it.
  4. I have been expected this for a while but have finally been asked about replacing our current CCTV system with a new IP CCTV system. What I am thinking of doing is using our old 1GB fiber backbone (which was replaced with 10GB fiber last year, but is still connected) as a private network for the CCTV connected to separate PoE switches (something like a Netgear GS110TP) in each of our cabs (one switch per cab), with a central server for the recording, which would also have a connection to our normal network for remote viewing etc. We have various bits left we can use for this to save costs (being the biggest issue of course!). The main reason for choosing this route would be to save the issues I know we would get from our LA in trying to do this with our normal network. Is there any reason why something like this might not work? Any input appreciated.
  5. We recently upgraded ours and was debating between two smaller screens or one single, larger screen and ended up with a single 24" Ben-Q each in the end (with the possibility of adding a second screen at some point of course!)
  6. We used to have TLC from around 2008 to 2011. When the prices came in for renewal it was a no brainier to stop (the original idea being the previous Head's). In terms of content at the time, most of it we found was not relevant to us and some of it was longish videos, which nobody was ever going to stand there and watch without any sound, I actually struggle to remember exactly what content it was now. What we did was to (what probably a few on here have done) move over to Xibo, using the exact same hardware which was used by the TLC. Things may have changed from 2011 of course.
  7. We used to have (Secondary): 2:2:2 AM Reg/Assembly - 08:50 Lesson 1 - 09:10 Lesson 2 - 10:00 Break - 10:50 Lesson 3 - 11:10 Lesson 4 - 12:00 Lunch - 12:50 PM Reg - 12:30 Lesson 5 - 13:40 Lesson 6 - 14:30 End of School - 15:20 They then changed it to 2:1:2: AM Reg/Assembly - 08:50 Lesson 1 - 09:10 Lesson 2 - 10:10 Break - 11:10 Lesson 3 - 11:30 Lunch - 12:30 Lesson 4 - 13:20 Lesson 5 - 14:20 End of School - 15:20 I think the reason for the change was they were finding 50 minutes not long enough as that also included pupils moving around etc.
  8. Yey I won something for a change! Shame it wasn't a few moments later! Congratulations to @HC_Netman
  9. It doesn't actually say what type of projector it was, so may not have been the data projection type you initially think about.
  10. Another competition! Great! Enter me please
  11. Indeed! Once all the various things are taken out (licensing, LEA support etc), we are left with under 1K! So no chance of an 'emergency allowance' here! (If something does go very wrong we have to go and beg).
  12. We have two InFocus X20 projectors, which have a great design of only having the controls on the remote! The only button on the projector is the power button. As one remote was 'misplaced' we have to use the one for both of them now. Considering the original cost of the projector (not much) and the cost of a replacement remote, we just keep it as a spare for emergencies. With some projectors (such as the above) some places seem to say they have replacements that work and others say you cannot get replacements for them!
  13. That is what its like in my place now. It used to be the 'Strategic Leader of ICT' instead of the Business Manager, but when they retired they were not replaced and the BM took the role.
  14. We have only got a handful of laptops to upgrade now and any which can’t will be blocked off the network (if there on it in the first place)
