Just spoken to a man called Paul Day on this phone number 0871 703 4178 and i am getting mine repaired. The warranty has been extended on these projectors with this fault for up to 5 years.

His email address is also [email protected]

Hope this helps everyone

Paul has been brilliant and has extended the warranty to 5 years and done a de\reinstall on all of the projectors we had with the mirror fault. The standard 3 year warranty applies to all other faults but all in all, I've been very impressed with Hitachi - thanks Kai for sharing his contact details.

Hmm just found this thread. It's a shame Hitachi Australia isn't the same as EU cause they are no longer offering to cover the cost of labour to repair these projectors after 3 years. Although they will provide the part free to the service centre, they won't let me buy just the part so I can replace it myself. Instead they want to charge $250. That's just too much for a tiny little cracked cog if you ask me.

We bought 16 ED-A111s and several developed the motor fault and all were replaced within warranty. We also had issues with lamps not turning on and having to do a power cycle. As others have said on the forum, kudos to Paul Day from Hitachi who was really helpful when we had issues.

All our projectors are now out of warranty, so I'm pleased to read that Hitachi are honouring warranty repairs, at least on the motor issue.

Can I suggest we nominate Paul Day for Edugeek Star of the Month? He's come up trumps again. Withing an hour of me emailing him an engineer has been booked for Monday. They would have come tomorrow but it's not convenient with Ofsted in.

Repairs / exchanges will then be carried out by our service partner Equinox.

Just when Equinox thought they had got rid of me... :D. All working fine here at the moment. Thanks again, Paul. You are a true gent.

Had one go a couple of weeks ago. Emailed Paul on Thursday afternoon, replacement projector in-place 9:10am Monday morning (would have been Friday but the engineer called in sick)

Can't thank Paul enough

I spoke too soon. One has developed a fault today so it doesn't open all the way. The lamp illuminates, but the picture is distorted. It's currently being held in place by a piece of sellotape. I've just emailed Paul so, hopefully, it will all be sorted soon. :)

EDIT: Less than 20 minutes later and I have a warranty call logged. +1 (again) @paday

I have just logged a call with Paul Day on 0871 703 4178 and they changed the warranty for this projector to 5 years. Logged a call with Equinox, they should be out on Monday.

Brilliant. Just be aware, though @dannyboy103, the 5 year warranty only covers faults connected with the mirror door. You will have to pay for repairs relating to any other fault once the normal 3-year warranty has expired.

Dear All. With regard to this issue of the mirror door not opening, Hitachi has been helping and continues to willingly help those that experience this problem up to 5 years from date of purchase.

We have several ED-A100s and 101s installed in lecture rooms. Unfortunately it appears to be a design fault. I asked an Hitachi bod at BETT if it was a design fault and he grinned; he wouldn't openly confirm or deny it. We've had several occurances of the fault you describe. If you come across its successor model, the 200 series, you'll see that the door stays open until the projector cools down and then closes; the 100 series just closes.

I can't tell you whether it is a simple fix as ours have been repaired by Hitachi under guarantee.

Got an issue with this now and it's out of warranty so was looking to arrange sorting a cog.

However how the bloody hell am I supposed to get the top off? I've taken out all the obvious screws and it lifts away except for the side with all the VGA/audio ports etc.

Thanks!

Out of normal warranty or the extended 5 year warranty for this particular fault? Either way, it's still worth sending an email to [email protected]. They'll give you advice if nothing else!

Worth a phone call to Paul Day on 0871 703 4178 to plead your case on the warranty, Hitachi have been very good at extending warranties to fix the cog issue and it's pretty much next day swap-out 99% of the time. If that fails, large hammer?

We have got an ED-A111, does the extended warranties include these? I have previously had lots go wrong and have had to pay for it. Just had another one go today. Hope someone can help.
