StevieM Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 We have got an ED-A111, does the extended warranties include these? I have previously had lots go wrong and have had to pay for it. Just had another one go today. Hope someone can help. Hi @Kingstech. Yes the extended warranty DOES include the ED-A111 (we got one swapped out just last week) but ONLY if the problem is with the mirror door failing. If the projector is over 3 years old, logging a call on the Equinox website will not work. You will first need to email [email protected] with your serial number. Hitachi can tell the approximate age of the unit from this, and if they consider to be less than five years old, they will inform Equinox. You will then be able to log a call on the Equinox portal. 1
Kingstech Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 Enter the projector details in this form and cross your fingers as you hit submit... It will tell you how it stands with warranty support. https://hitachi.equinox.co.uk/ Good luck Andrew Warranty check has failed, probable because its out of the normal warranty. I Think i might email them and see what they say. I know this thread is for the ED-A100 and not the ED-A111.
dannyboy103 Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 Or you can phone Paul Day on 0871 703 4178, he will sort out the warranty extension. Good luck!!!
Kingstech Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 I have emailed Hitachi, but was wondering if anyone knew of any instructions on how to change over the mirror motor?
alemanyorks Posted May 14, 2014 Posted May 14, 2014 The part I bought had some basic but useful tips when re-fitting with it (see my previous post in thread). A look at the service manual for ED A-100 helped with disassembly.

alemanyorks Posted May 15, 2014 Posted May 15, 2014 I had a link earlier in the year, can't find it now. I'll PM you.

Kingstech Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Thanks for your help guys. Hitachi came in yesterday and swapped out the faulty projector with a replacement.
StevieM Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Thanks for your help guys. Hitachi came in yesterday and swapped out the faulty projector with a replacement. Great stuff!
jameslo30 Posted September 14, 2015 Posted September 14, 2015 We had the same problem on our CP-A100. It did turn out to be the motor gears (the last in the chain holding the lid). Here are some pics of the broken part; I have ordered another motor from : Xtra Parts I have yet to install it, but will update here when done!
Mickeyjc Posted February 12, 2016 Posted February 12, 2016 I m also having this issue., here in Australia there isn't extended warranty for it. Can anyone share the 3d print file here? Thanks.
StevieM Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 If you do manage to get hold of a motor, here is a video that shows you how to replace it. It's based on an ED-A100, but I'm hoping it will be pretty much the same for the 111.
Joanne Posted March 16, 2016 Posted March 16, 2016 I've got one of these at my other school. Might see if I can repair it if it is left behind!
LazyJones Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 What would be really great, was if we could somehow bypass the mirror-door-check at startup. A strip of duct tape can hold the bloody door open in place, and prevent the motor from closing the door. But sometimes the damn thing shuts down again, when it registers that the door doesn't open correctly, and that is really the only problem.
manc_techie Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 A few years back we had major issues with a batch of these going at once, after a complaint to Roche (who supplied these) we got in touch with Hitachi directly and they were great. Unsure if the chap is still there but can happily drop the details over to anyone in a PM
trainbrain27 Posted September 2, 2016 Posted September 2, 2016 We just lost the clutch gear for the second time. I'm looking for a 3d print file or a source for the gear that costs less than the $100 motor assembly. Thanks!
RoeTech Posted November 15, 2016 Posted November 15, 2016 Unfortunately the problem will not go away. I tackled a couple of Hitachi reps at BETT a few years back about the mirror door problem and they grinned when I suggested it was a design fault! On the 200 series, the lamp goes off and the door closes about 90 - 120 seconds later once things have cooled down. We have 100 and 200 series projectors, about 50 in total. The 200 series have not presented any problems, whereas the 100 always present with the same problem - the mirror door! One of my AV Techs can change the door motor in about 25 minutes now.
rpaulson Posted December 23, 2016 Posted December 23, 2016 Fixed mine this way, Removed broken gear. You now need to open the mirror manually. (no big deal) Wired a LED bulb to the Motor connector in circuit board. see image. rpaulson @ ezworks dot net Enjoy!
eddiebutcher Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 rpaulson, What are the specs on your LED? I measured 12V coming from the board. Would a resistor do the same thing? Fixed mine this way, Removed broken gear. You now need to open the mirror manually. ITGURU Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 Must be a common fault - we binned one of these a while ago due to the same issue. Took it all apart then decided to scrap as out of warranty and looked ancient along with being a bit of a beast
StevieM Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 If you email Hitachi, they will send you a replacement mirror motor free of charge.
