FortiGate filtering policies
manc_techie replied to mdrabble's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
I've seen odd things happen on Fortigates and Palo Altos with 365 when External Lists have not been updated recently. Found EDL Manager to be up to date and reasonably priced for this, feed these in and whenever MS change something upstream your filter adds these in automagically. -
I'm at a non-profit outside of education now but we used Raspberry Pi's (Compute Modules) running PiSignage for central management until a few weeks ago. No issues at all with it until some vulnerabilities were picked up on an internal pen test so moved to Nowsignage which marketing are happy with.
-
Also out of education now but I'm using Ansible myself for most things including automatic remediation of service failures, automation of manual processes, automated daily checks, network config management and patching of Windows/Linux devices plenty of great learning material out there and well worth the effort.

Finance software from The Access Group - anyone using them?

We had the misfortune of using their Focalpoint solution. Fix for everything was them either using the SA password or giving users local admin to machines. Glad to get rid as were our finance team -

We had the same issue yesterday, following the steps here: http://www.edugeek.net/forums/office-software/220077-ms-forms-restriction-its-asking-personal-data.html resolved the issue after speaking to MS support -
I'm outside of Education these days but we use Exclaimer applies as mails leave the server and ensures a standard look and feel across all devices

As an IT Professional what laptop do you use?
manc_techie replied to flyinghaggis's topic in Hardware
At work I have a Dell Precision 5540 and avoid tech at home so just a trusty Samsung J6 -
I find Infosight shows what I need on a day to basis, are you after anything in particular

Have to agree, living over the border from the Netherlands I own a Dutch e-bike (Vanmoof S2) and couldn't be happier with it. Cycle 25KM every day to work and don't break into a sweat and I'm a hefty fella.

We're using 3CX on AWS with Gamma SIP, more than happy with features and cost. We are using Yealink T46 handsets and they are great -

[sims] Sophos Intercept X preventing SIMS.net install on Windows 10
manc_techie replied to kennysarmy's topic in MIS Systems
I can't speak for SIMS as no longer in education but it's been a nightmare here with SAP and Microsoft Power BI not opening, I've had to remove Intercept X and have been chasing Sophos for 6 weeks. Usually their support is amazing but this call has fell into a black hole. -
I'm no longer in Education, it was around 32K over 3 years with maintenance for a mix of 220 Windows and Linux servers. Education pricing should be much lower, a cheaper product was offered by ManageEngine but this was not liked by our management team when demoed.

I use Netwrix for this. Establishes a baseline for users and will alert if anything suspicious crops up.
-
I'm using a HP/Aruba 5412R zl2 as the core with HP/Aruba Aruba 2930F as access switches, no issues at all love how you can manage them all as a single stack using Virtual Stacking
-
We use ManageEngine with a link published via our Remote Access portal. Works easy enough but most of users forget their answers.

Web Filtering, what to go for?
manc_techie replied to manick's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Hi @hyb80, iBoss will give you a 30 day unit to trial. Firewall might be available as an odd on, but I had mine sat behind a Firewall. We had support in the UK from our reseller and overseas from the US I never had to log a high-priority call but never waited more than 4-5 hours for a URL to be re-categorised.
