  1. I've used a 30 day trial of ISDecisions FileAudit to find who accesses what on shares before locking them down. You can keep the reports for reference at a later date
  2. I'm using the AVTech 12R and AVTech 32E for temperature, humidity, airflow, power and cabinet doors (some of our cabinets have shared estates kit in). Never had any issues and the central device manager is easy to use
  3. I'm using the AVTech 12R and AVTech 32E for temperature, humidity, airflow, power and cabinet doors (some of our cabinets have shared estates kit in). Never had any issues and the central device manager is easy to use
  4. I've not had any issues with Eaton or APC. If you know the Wattage of what's being connected Eaton have a handy calculator you can use to work out requirements: Calculator
  5. @mrwoberts I picked the M500 for our number of users 500ish, I didn't purchase the AV or Threat Detection as this sat directly in front of our web filter which offered these. I believe the web-filtering is using Websense our reseller were great, they were able to get me a test box for 30 days and Watchguard were offering at the time a second unit half price for H/A.
  6. There's a Subway and Wetherspoons in there from memory or plane-spotting
  7. I'm using 2x M500 for Firewalls in H/A and more than happy, can't speak for the filtering but more than happy with it, WSM is a bit dated but the Web GUI is spoton
  8. I use Overplay to access UK TV services in Germany, works a treat on Android too
  9. +1 for PRTG if you need more sensors than the free version they do great education pricing. Easy enough to configure
  10. If you have a VHD of your DC spin up Hyper-V on a none domain connected PC with a private network setup using a loopback adaptor. That's how I do it here
  11. I've had a positive experience with Roche AV back when I used to buy lamps, not always the cheapest but really helpful
  12. I've had no issues with Direct Line I was able to claim for the cost of kennels during an unexpected stay in hospital. Paying £19 monthly for a Beagle
  13. Do you need reporting? If so, PFsense might do the trick. If you simply need to block access a secure DNS service might be useful
  14. We use a Helpdesk for requests and incidents (ManageEngine) and I have the team using Toggl to track project work/interruptions this is really handy as I can see how much of their time is spent dealing with people ignoring the Incident Reporting process and taking action to sort this.
  15. A few years back we had major issues with a batch of these going at once, after a complaint to Roche (who supplied these) we got in touch with Hitachi directly and they were great. Unsure if the chap is still there but can happily drop the details over to anyone in a PM
  16. I have an SLA document we created along with SLT happy to PM anyone a copy. We use our Helpdesk for every contact including walk in's to keep track of what we're doing.
  17. My colleague has set each user up with a personal share as their home drive, since moving to Windows 8.1 we are getting some issues where users cannot delete files/folders within these locations. Checking the permissions he created on each share and the NTFS folder permissions these look correct to me (there’s no inheritance applied) Full Control – IT Admin Modify + Delete + Delete Subfolders and files – The user themselves. For some reason they cannot delete anything but when I run effective access to check what they can see they have access to delete files. I plan on rebuilding the personal shares over summer to map this within AD but was wondering if anyone has come across this before as I am stumped no changes have been made to this what I'm aware of and it's only popped up the last few days. Thanks in advance!!
  18. I've had positive experiences with Softcat, ICTDirect and Millgate in the past
  19. I'm using an iBoss here, my predecessor installed it and got a great price and been more than happy with. Works seamlessly with AD on both client PC's and BYOD as a transparent proxy and provides us with immediate notifications if students search for specific keywords or try to access specific apps e.g. VPN clients. As we have a very limited WAN link due to location the bandwidth streaming based on sites/clients this has been great for controlling access to online videos for teaching. I believe they offer a 30 day trial but happy to answer any questions folk might have, used Smoothwall and Websense before and I prefer this platform (even though both of those are great products)
  20. I used to deal with Gamma at my old place for both SIP Trunks and mobile. They use the Vodafone network and came with handy features such as automatic integration with fixed lines, PAYG under the agreement, signal boosters if needed in buildings and my old account manager was always reachable when not on holiday. If she was on holiday I always got told beforehand and given a new person to deal with, far cheaper than Vodafone who we used before (strangely enough)
  21. I've used Sophos UTM before and really liked the functionality, we are using an iBoss here as a filter and it's great, especially the App Rules you can apply to certain groups.
  22. I have but it's like banging your head against a brick wall, I feel the same it's a way for them to make some consultancy money but given the school moved away from them apart from this software I feel the principal should listen more to us than them. I've asked their Director to detail what he sees as an issue so we can go from there.
  23. Morning, The company we moved away from IT Support (before I started) does this in other schools and believes anything else is a security risk. With the correct management in place on our current setup I cannot see this improving things at all. Thanks,
  24. I know this is adding to an old thread, but this is something I've been tasked to do. At the moment we have a shared domain for staff and students using NTFS permissions and VLAN's with Access Control Lists locking down student access to certain areas. Today, I have been asked by the principal to look at a wholly separate domain for students which I think will be a management nightmare given the number of applications we use which traverse domains. I was wondering are any other schools doing this and can you see any benefits as it is something I cannot really see being any use to us however we moved from a rather rubbish external IT provider who keep sticking their oar into the school as we still licence a few applications from them. Using NTFS permissions, VLANs and Group Policies we shouldn't need to do this but wondering what others think. Any advice is greatly appreciated.
