Cleaning whiteboards

Who cleans the normal dry wipe boards

I'm not sure who does it here, but it's usually done straight after I've written something I need to remember on there.

Well clean. They get drity from fingers, (especially smartboards) dust etc

On a related note, for those of you who come across a similar situation, ethanol cleans dry wipe marker off a Smartboard, which is lucky for one exam invigilator here.

IT staff, only when permanent pen (where did it come from?!?!) has been used instead of a proper whiteboard pen.

No I haven't been but our site manager and his caretaking staff have.

 

The danger of anyone other than the teacher responsible cleaning them is that they could have pre-prepared stuff on it and then the cleaners or whoever come along and clean it all off before the next day as has happened in the past.

I did take to printing out labels that couldn't be pealed off with "DO NOT WRITE ON THIS BOARD" written on and stuck them to the tops of all the IWBs in the school...

They got the hint when I'd taken to hiding their marker pens... or gutting the ones that they thought they'd hidden well from me..!

Thanks for all the replies guys can I just point out though that I am referring to standard whiteboards i.e dry wipe boards and not IWB's

Teachers clean them here, when they need it. We sometimes get phonecalls from the primarys asking how to clean them :-/

The teachers wipe them to write on the board on a daily basis, but they don't ever come out brilliant white. I think the cleaners give them a quick clean during the summer holidays, but it doesn't take look before they look black again once we return in September.

no one cleans them here as far as i know.

I hate whiteboard neglect. I'd have to clean the boards every few days to keep in line with my OCD if I was a teacher using them.

 

I plan on cleaning the smartboards over the next couple of weeks if I get a chance. I hate to see a dirty board especially if your projecting onto it.

If there in an IT Room I may clean them as they annoy me when they are more black than white but its not on my job list but if ive cleaned the IWB and desks and PCs might as well give the dry wipe a quick once over with the industrial cleaner and its sparkling white again

Not related but I’ve used whiteboard cleaning fluid to remove Biro scribble from monitor screens and it does a great job.

We suffered from a grey palimpsest like effect that we believe to have been caused by cleaners using the local tap water on rags to clean boards. We are on chalk, with very hard water. We think that this was leaving a deposit on the boards that made them very hard to clean properly.

The head bought some of this Rahmqvist Interactive Board Cleaning System and gave it to me. Apparently, it's quite expensive and thought the cleaners would apply it too liberally if they used it.

 

Edit: Regarding Dry wipe boards - I used to clean the board in our ICT suite once every couple of weeks as teachers come in, write a few things then leave it. Now I tend not to bother. As far as I'm concerned, if you write on a shared board, you wipe before you leave the room. If there is no space, the teachers can clean it themselves.

After the languages dept here borrowed one of our rooms and wrote on the projector screen in French I made some "n'ecrivez pas sur cet ecran" stickers. I think they got the message.

I think no-one. We have a room we sometimes put up a temporary projector in and project onto the whiteboard. I always have to clean it first as it is gross.

WD 40 works really well for cleaning whiteboards and getting permanent marker off them as well (dont ask it happens more then I care to think about here) you only need a little but you have to make sure you wipe it all down properly when done.
